Do you take your Tiny places??

Jul 8, 2010

    1. Another Tiny thread!

Helloooo...again. X3 I didn't see an open..well new thread like this so I'm gonna start it. So once again as a noob..lol I will be getting a tiny soon! I would like to know does anyone take their tiny out?
I think I would be too paranoid to take a tiny out like to Walmart, the movies, the mall, or even walking around a con. I mean I will freaking love my doll to death but, aren't they to small to take to public places if your not going for shoots or meet ups. Also is it okay to take them out with or without a bag
      ? :)

    2. When I first ordered my tiny (PKF Ante), I really thought I'd be taking her lots of places. If I was to pick one of my dolls to take somewhere it'd be here simply because it's easy to bring something to put her in a keep her safe. But...I still don't take her out much at all.

Personally I'm almost more nervous because if I was to be around a lot of people, I worry they would want to hold her, and being so little, she looks like a toy. Obviously I don't want her treated as such :/
My bigger dolls have more of the 'sculpture' feel to them. They don't seem like toys so I feel like people would automatically be somewhat more careful. But you never know 0_o

But if its general...going somewhere with a friend in public I'd be ok with bringing my tiny because generally strangers wouldn't say anything or want to see.

I generally don't have the desire to bring my dolls places simply because it tends to draw attention and I'm a quite 'off-in-the-corner' type of person. But to each their own ;)

    3. It depends on where I'm going. I bring Josslyn with me when I go to Hobby Lobby or sometimes when I pick up my husband from work (Toys R Us).

    4. I am more apt to take a tiny out than any of my larger dolls. I take them moreso out when I am on a mission of sorts - fabric/craft store, meet ups, doll shop visits, and on trips when I am by myself or my husband because we're not picture people. It's nice to get sites with an agreeable model than a real person who doesn't want to be in my touristy pictures!

I have nice little Sanrio hard cases to keep my dolls safe from being jostled in my purse. Note: I use these with my PukiPki type sized dolls only. With my Yo-SD sized dolls, I have a white lined fun colored purse I put them in for safe keeping, separate from my regular purse.

    5. Sometimes I'll bring my Lati Yellow to the office or if I'm in the mood for some outdoor photoshoots.
Sad to say though, my other toys get more attention simply because they are less expensive so it's less heartbreaking should they get slightly smudged outdoors.

      I think I'm such a bad mummy. =(

    6. I've been tempted to take Daisy places. I just get nervous. I really want to tote her around because she's small, but I'm afraid of the looks I'd get. :C

    7. ooo, i've taken one tiny to the beach with me for the past 2 summers. they also go to the park/playground, to the stream at the park across the street...oh, and Target when i was looking for a carrier ;) LOL my answer is "yes" i do take my tinies places :D

    8. Usually at least one of my LTF come with me on the days I spend at the boyfriends house (we split the days evenly during summer) because I love having them around, and more often than not, I'm working on something for them and need a model to constantly try things out. XD Poor things get bombarded with trying on my creations! They also join me outside in the yard for photoshoots, and sometimes get to come to the forest preserve/ state parks.

Other than that I don't take them out into public because I'm also one of those 'wall flowers' who just doesn't want to bring added attention to myself. I think I'd be more likely to take a pukifee or puki out than a LTF.... We shall see!

One of them will be joining me on my vacation this year, though! My family does alot of outdoorsy sight seeing so I don't want to miss out on photoshoot opportunities!

    9. I'm waiting for my Pukifee and I'm planning on taking her out. Of course when buying accessories for her, or fabrics and other ornaments. And I want to take her to work. I don't even think my colleagues will really notice, and when they do I think they'll be surprised because she wears different outfits every time :)

    10. I´ve taken my little ones out when going to make outdoor photoshoot (mostly in nature where is not people seeing), or when I´ve went to the doll meeting. Otherwise, I see no reason for me to carry the dolls with me wherever I go. I don´t have a need to keep a doll always close to me, and don´t want them to get lost, broken, stolen, or to lose parts. And I don´t want to go around in public places with dolls, that´s not my thing.

But as taking a doll out in general, tiny doll is ideal for that, as they fit to bag or purse, even pocket, and aren´t heavy to carry or so difficult to pose. I´d be worried for big doll to hit on ground if wind or something would make it fall, but tinies don´t fall very high and in my opinion, stick better in the positions as they don´t have such a long legs to balance with. (Well, at least the chubby child tinies, of course some small dolls are thin and in adult scale.)

    11. I take my Firefly faerie with me most of the time. I have made her a special case that protects her in my bag. You just never know when there will be a good photo opp.
have a look at my flickr stream to she what she gets up too.

    12. Oh cool! Yeah I think I would be too nervous to take them out because of their size....but like weird-doll-grl said never know when you might want a shoot. Hmm...

    13. I take my tinies to work, usually :] And I've taken them to school whenever we were watching a movie in Japanese class (It was first period.) But for regular out and about stuff, probably not x: But that might change if/when I get a Pukifee.

    14. I've brought my tiny all around with me! I carried her in a little glasses case or in my pocket! I only usually take her out when I need to measure something against her size or was with other dolly people!

I had a pukipuki cupid which I sold to change sculpts to pukipuki ante!

    15. Thea goes EVERYWHERE with me, even tho she is usually in a hard glasses case in my purse. I just like knowing she is there--and if I find a great photo op, I am ready (yes, the camera is in my purse, too.)

    16. I bring Anemone(RS Ni) with me when I'm looking for stuff for her like something to carry her in or Barbie/Liv doll clothes.
When Noctis(pukifee shiwoo) gets here, I'll be wagging him around as well to find something I can carry him in.
And then again with my Pukipuki I'm saving for once I mod her to be what I want her to be~

I like taking them places because I just never know what I'll find that MIGHT look like it'd fit them, so having them with me will allow me to better judge. Their portability is a plus.

    17. I will be taking Wyndy my new Pukifee Ante to Chicago to see my son Graduate from Navy Bootcamp Hooyah !! I'm so excited can you tell lol

    18. I take my pukipuki Cupid Ellianna every where with me because I can. When I was in German class last year she was frequently photographed or just sitting out on my desk with me.

    19. Since I got my pukifee at home, she has followed me in all my holidays trip :) She's the perfct size to bring with me, since I can put her carrier (handmade) into my backpack and then go an errand here and there :) And I love to take pics of her in various places, just like SHE was on hollidays ;)

    20. I have a really cool glasses case ..I always have one of my tiny with me ..Usually my Moona ..but Thistledown has kinda taken over lately ..Im going to have to see if I can fit them both in
but I always have one on me and a tiny bear ..were ever I travel
that and my miniature knitting :)

    21. I don't really take my dolls out, but I would never take a tiny. I know they seem really portable, and they are, but... With lati yellow and white size, they are so small that I worry about losing their hands and feel, their wigs, or just crushing them somehow, especially with pukis and pukifees who have magnetic parts.

On the rare occassions that I take a doll out, I take a MSD.

    22. I've taken my Elfdoll tinies out a few times. Mainly to Disney for the Flower & Garden Show and for photos. They usually have a fairy section that is the perfect size for the Elfdoll tinies. Otherwise, I usually don't take them with me. When my DD was younger, I could get away with people thinking they were hers, lol. Mainly I don't take them out because it is just a pain to hold or store them carefully so they don't break a finger, etc. while I am paying attention to the main reasons why I am out.

    23. I take my Soom Bygg and/or Beyla with me occasionally, mostly the Bygg (Ciel) though cause I love his little hoofies<3
People seem to stare more though, when you carry a little half pint doll instead of a 60cm. lol In my case though, it's probably because of his hooves and Lavender pupil-less eyes. ~.~

    24. Fee has been a constant companion in my many travels over the years. She is the subject of my travel pictures...she looks much better in pictures than I do <G>.

    25. I bring my tinies out pretty much everywhere, but of them, my LTF El, Celain, is probably the most well travelled. He has been to a few continents and sits on my work desk. People do stare a bit, but I have found him a marvelous conversation starter. And I agree with clochette - he looks better in pictures than I do too.

    26. I do take my Tinies to places... if I go oversea I put they in the pillow blanket thing and put the whole thing in my purse

If it is a domestic trip they just go in my purse

      I have had no problem

    27. I don't take dolls out just on random errands. I only take them if I am going to a meet, planning a photo shoot, or shopping for something for them where I need them along to check scale.
That said- I am planning to take my Lati white to a Renaissance Festival this weekend where she will be my captured faerie and be carried inside of a candle lantern to protect her from harm. :)

    28. my pukis come EVERYWHERE with me. they have they own special carring bag!

    29. I just got my first tiny; a Realpuki Soso. I carry her in an eyeglass case in my purse. I take her to work and have taken her shopping. Today I took her to the Krohn Conservatory and took some pics of her among the plants. You can see her photos in the Realpuki thread.

    30. Mm hmm....so I think I would just have to be extra careful!

    31. I bring Haniel (Cherish Chubby Demon) to work fairly often, but I also bring my larger (MSD and SD) dolls to work, too. I've also brought dolls (large and small) to a con and I'd probably bring Haniel if I thought I was going to be somewhere that had good photo opportunities.

    32. I am planning on ordering my first BJD today. An original Moona by Sleeping Elf.

I had considered getting a 10 inch one, which I will I am sure eventually, but the fact the smaller size will be easier for travel has helped my decision.
Early next year I am traveling abroad and would like to bring my Moona with me for photo ops during our travels. She will be small enough to keep bundled in the Nikon d90 backpack and well protected from bumps :-)

    33. I used to keep my Sleeping Elf Moona and Mina in my coat pocket when I was working, and take them out during lunch breaks!

    34. I take a Lati Yellow and my Puki with me when I travel, not that they actually see much time out of their cases :( poor abused girls.
My puki is more sturdy so she travels in an Only Hearts Club sleeping bag, it's the way my new Lati White will travel too now (she gets a pink bag, Puki has a purple one... not sure why that's importaint). She's easy to take with me cause she's so small, carry on or purse size :) My Lati Yellow goes inside a case I got from Ruby Red Galliera http://www.rubyredgalleria.com/product.php?Product_ID=RZ0003A
which I got ages ago, it works well for one Lati and normally I can tuck in my puki too. I put the Lati in all her original packing, face mask, blanket then bubble wrap and she gets tucked to one side, her clothes and shoes to the other. The wigs I take in a single lati package (the tissue ball + the hair net inside the paper ring, because I only take tiny dolls you can fit 2 to 3 non fluffy wigs together). They've been with me from the Uk to the US and back, and a vacation we took to Asia, so far and no problems, the little case can fit in my carryon with my cameras :)

I am still fairly new with the dolls I only started collecting last October, so I do get shy about taking them out. So far they've had photos only within the places we've stayed. But, I'd love to get to a point where feel comfortable taking them outside for photos in the parks or other memorable places.

    35. So far I haven't taken any of my tinys out with me, but I think I might have to start. I like the idea from weird-doll-grl about making a protective case for her to go in my handbag. I think when my next pukipuki arrives (chichi) I'll have to take her places - Yay, now I'm even more excited about her upcoming arrival!!!! Thank you all.

    36. When I had my original pukifee ante, I used to let her travel with me to see my grandmother. The lighting is great in her house, so it was wonderful for taking photos for myself and photos to share with the community. My PKF Ante was also very easy to pack away and such.

    37. I've taken both my tinies and my 70cm boy out in general.

I'm not fond of attracting attention but I do love having my dolls with me, and its actually fun when I'm visiting family since my mum likes them (and should be getting the one she ordered next month) and one of my sisters owns a 58cm doll so we have a little mini doll meet and hit up Hobby Lobby and go out to lunch when I visit.

I have a clear acrylic bucket that I decorated in order to carry my RS 27cm girl and pukifee in together but if I take just my pukifee I have a little metal wire bird cage I got from Michael's that she's sort of crammed in.

I'm not too afraid of using an acrylic bucket because you can only pop the lid open using a washer ring attached to the handle (or a key or something) and the noise the popping makes is a fair bit loud so I'd know when someone tries to open it.
However, the little bird cage has no netting to keep pukifee hands/feet from popping off and getting lost so I don't use it often just to be safe.

I generally like to have them with me when I go to toy stores or fabric stores to compare sizes but on occasion I have taken them to group lunches/dinners with husband's co-workers to keep myself entertained since I'm generally ignored at these gatherings due to not knowing anyone nor having similar interests.

    38. I take mine out a lot! Not to the grocery store and stuff like that but parks, movies, malls..etc. They go! I don't want to miss a photo op. I also take my SD's places too but the little ones are easier to carry around. I always wrap them in their pillows.

    39. I have taken out my very small tinies from time to time...my Nari-Pon Pansy and my Pocket Fairy Mei and my Tiny Bear MerMina have gone to work with me sometimes and on vacations and to visit friends and family. I usually take just one at a time. They always seems to make everyone smile. I make sure that they are safely packed into my purse or backpack!

    40. what a fun thread! anyone have spam of their tinies at the park, at the grocery, on a roller coaster?i do take one tiny with me on special trips. i try to take photos of my doll with human- sized things or even people in the background. over time, i have learned to ignore puzzled looks. Having my young daughter with me helps; i guess they figure we are playing.i was able to photograph my first Lati Yellow on the Great Wall. our tour guide was really curious and expressed interest in the hobby.

    41. I thought I would take my pukipuki places for photos and to work. But I'm not only afraid to loose or damage her...honestly, I'm also kind of afraid of what other people will say. I've gotten "creepy doll" comments before and I'm a touch sensitive.

    42. Malice goes with me a lot. Actualy today he went with me to Ren Faire in WI. He's the perfect size to put in my bag and carry around. I like having at least one of my dolls with me but James is just too big to carry around with me. Malice I can just put in my purse (box and all) and be on my way. You never know when a good picture opportunity arrives.

    43. I usually carry my pukis - theyre very small and less likely to have their eyelashes fall off (they dont have any) or faceup damaged. I kept them in my lipstick compartment in my handbag, but they started getting a little dirty so now I found a coin purse to put them in :) 2 compartments, 1 for each puki. Perfect!

    44. I take my Tyni with me in a Hello Kitty metel band aid box. Once I took him out at the hobby shop to see if some doll house furniture fit and lost his little foot. Oh course gentleman that he is I found it was stuck to his bum!

    45. I usually take a small one with me places-especially to work, as when the day turns bad, I have a friendly face to cheer me up. Definitely when I have to drive a long distance in the car, too. Usually with a carry case, because my purse is a scarey place to be without a protective barrier between anything and the purse contents!

    46. This made me giggle. Of course it was stuck to his bum. LOL

NyXy, my CCC Vampire Fidelia Firefly goes everywhere. I have a Hello Kitty glasses case with handles and she usually takes a toy. My Flickr has loads of her pics out and about, also her blog NyXy'z Natterinz in my signature.

I've had people stop me asking about why I take photos. I explained that she has her own blog with friends worldwide who read it. The fact she's a witch and a Vampire always intrigues them. It's a good conversation starter. Those who have their noses in the air are missing out on the fun, so I don't worry about them.

I usually ask if I can take photos depending on where it is. Most shops are pleased because it's free advertising.

    47. I take my two yosd size dolls with me shopping all the time.

    48. Oh jeez, a glasses case, how perfect, thanks for the idea. Tyni has grown very tired of his band aid box. And absolutly he takes a toy!

    49. I also am new and don't have a BJD yet, but I am primarily interested in tinies- specifically Elfdolls:) I can't wait! I think I will take mine out for awesome outdoor shoots...but I am not sure I would take one in public. I also collect Sylvanian Families- there is a forum where members from around the world send a figure back and forth and the host gives it a 'tour' of their homeland to share with others. It is great fun, and I have wondered what kind of looks I will get when it is my turn and I am caught taking pictures with a tiny flocked puppy in front of local landmarks lol.

    50. Sunglass case is the magic word.

They are very, very sturdy, easily contain most tinies and a bunch of clothes, no strange looks if you carry a sunglass case around in your purse etc.

I always, always have 1 or two with me. I dont think Elfdoll Lynn has actually left my bag since 2007 (except for play off course). And when i expect to have the possibilty to enjoy them, i usually take a larger doll too.

Worst job interview so far: halfway trough they asked me about my bulging suit jacket. Which contained an MSD head.

    51. I've brought a couple of my tinies into the office with me on a few occasions. I smuggle them in in my purse, wrapped in a facecloth. I work in a cubicle and keep a couple of plants on my desk, so the dolls kind of nestle in among the pots in the corner, peering through the pothos leaves. I keep it on the QT, so no one notices, and it makes me happy. I have two Elfdolls, a black Catsy, and a Winter Elf Kathlen, that have both visited my workplace.

    52. I have a little metal Hello Kitty tin that I keep my Gardenofdolls Nabiyette in. I go back and forth between leaving her at home or taking her along for meaningless tasks. It just depends on how childish I feel that day :) but she always always ALWAYS goes with me to picturesque places and doll meets. It's just too fun having such a tiny doll that can secretly go anywhere with you. It really appeals to the inner child.

    53. My Puki Elly (Ylle) goes to work with me on weekends. Since it's slow then, I make her some new wardrobe item, and always bring a camera should inspiration crop up! I'm beginning to want to take her everywhere since I see so many opportunities for photos. For quick trips I stick her in a pocket, or an outside pocket of my purse. I'm currently on the hunt for the right kind of carrying case for her, much smaller than her little box yet big enough to bring along the wigs and clothes.

I have learned to make sure she wears her shoes, though! The dirt around here has magnetic particles and cling to her feet, sometimes getting into the ankle joints, then REALLY sticking to the magnets! Still haven't figured how to get all that off.

    54. I plan to make a little wizard outfit for my little one and take him to Universal's Wizarding World with me. :)

    55. Darkwind- I had never thought of the magnetic particles in dirt O.O Have you tried a small super magnet? Any magnet that is stronger than the ones in your doll should pull the particles off.

    56. My Puki Pong Merrit went along with us on our vacation to Texas this summer...she got lots of attention.
I never see people out and about with BJD's but I do see people out with reborn dolls (fake babies).

    57. I am new here and I like this question so I am going to respond.

I do have one BJD but she is not a tiny. I am planning to get a tiny when we get past these very challenging times in the world. I would like her to be my travel doll.

I plan to take her on vacations and when I am going to lunch or tea with friends. I am looking for the perfect carrier for her.

    58. I have a hard cover type pencil case that i take my girls out in, i just pop it in my fanny pack or my backpack and i take her out of it when/if i find a cool place to snap a pic! Sometimes i dont even take her out, its just nice to know shes there:)

    59. I love taking my Pukis and Latis to the park, and photographing them near fairy houses, mushrooms, and bodies of water! I've never traveled with one on a plane, but maybe one day... :aheartbea
