Do you still have your first doll?

Oct 25, 2019

    1. Yep, I still have her. I've only had Annalise for a year and a half. I think I'll keep her for a long time.

    2. The first doll I ordered was Dollzone Carter. I still have him. I don't sell my dolls.

    3. I sure do! My interest in her reignited recently, so I'm currently planning a new faceup for her...maybe a new wig too?

It doesn't feel like I've been in the hobby long, but when I pulled her back out recently, she seems to have a bit of yellowing compared to the pictures I took when I first got her. I did it! My doll is officially old! Exciting ~

    4. No, I no longer have my first doll.
I wasn't bonding with her from the beginning, but it was kinda my fault because I ordered her bald and without face-up thinking I'd be able to buy stuff for her before she arrived and I couldn't. Months went on till I had her with a proper wig and a face-up, but the damage was already done. I was about to give up on this hobby and thinking about selling and not looking back, I saw an also face-up-less head in the second-hand market and I fell in love with. I bought it in a whim an put it temporarily in the body of my first doll, and even without a face-up I couldn't stop loving her.
Head and body were sold separately almost 10 years ago because I used the body for a while (till I found a better one) but had no use for the head, so there's no way for me to know what became of them.

    5. I do! She's is an Obitsu Gretel, originally on an Obitsu 60cm body that later got put on an AOD body, and now has her forever body (Loongsoul).

    6. Yes, I do! :sumomo:

My very first doll was a Doll in Mind (DIM) Persia. He turned 18 years old this past March. And, he’s still all original; same face-up, original gray glass eyes, and DIM wig. He’s in great shape for an old single-jointed doll. :thumbup

He has such a sweet face, and I have such incredible nostalgia for my early dolls; I don’t think I could ever sell him.

He was my first love. :aheartbea

    7. I don't have him anymore. He was a Loongsoul Reno. I really did love him, his sculpt was gorgeous, but he was way too big for me. He was traded for a smaller doll and accessories, which has been much easier for me to deal with size wise.

    8. No doll yet for me, so I can't say, but it's so nice to see that so many people still have their first doll from a decade ago.

    9. My first doll was a DOD Lahoo, I rehomed him a few years ago after 13 years. I have many fond memories of the time we spent together but my aesthetic preferences had changed over the years and I was no longer playing with him much. Happened to see a WTB thread on DoA just when I was considering putting up a sale thread, responded to the thread and sold him to a very lovely member. I’m sure he’s more appreciated where he is now than if I had continued to keep him (:

    10. Yes! My first doll is an HZ (Heisejinyao Ziyulinglong) Boss.

After 13 years of having him, he finally got a makeover. He just got a new faceup thst was commissioned back in January/February, and I'm currently waiting on his new wig and clothes!

His original faceup/look is my profile picture :)

...Nope, although I certainly don't regret starting with him. Resin Soul Long, bought mostly because he was one of the cheapest elf SDs I knew of at the time, and I could get him in fantasy skin. If I had my way, I would have gone for something more expensive first, but I was at the mercy of my family and 'proving' to them that this new hobby was a worthwhile investment. (It was my money, but somehow that still wasn't good enough.)

While the sentiment of keeping your first doll is awesome, and it's better if you can start off with something you really wanted, I also think your tastes and collection should be allowed to evolve, and you should never feel forced to keep things just because they're milestones. Keep them because you want to, and you enjoy them.

I still have my third MSD, my first floating head (Now a full doll), and I replaced my first YoSD with the same sculpt in the colour I wanted some years ago. It can take a few tries to find dolls that stick.

    12. I own his head again. I gave him to a friend years ago, for a project for another friend. Finally the project was never done, and I asked my friend if I could have his head back. Out of sentimentality. It was a Doll In Mind Galahad, and I used his head as crash test for modification, so he is quite different from what he was.

I sometimes wonder if it would be a nice idea to give him a body again. But he has such a huge head he doesn't fit anymore in my collection...

    13. Yes I do, sort of. Although she wasn’t the first BJD I bought she was the first I received as I adopted her from another member who also lived here in the UK so technically she’s my first doll. I’ve had her over 14 years but I’m sure her previous owner bought her when Pukipuki were first released by Fairyland.
Patticake is the ‘Pipi’ sculpt and was originally WS but has yellowed over the years.
This is an old photo, I redid her faceup a few years ago but haven’t taken many new pictures of her.

    14. I do still have my first doll - he's my little icon on this site! Ah, my dear Basil Vincent, adore him.

    15. I do. My first is a Doll Zone Hid who I got in August of 2008. I also got 3 more over the years and now have 4 (none are the same character) and I still adore him as much as the first time I saw him on JunkySpot's site all those years ago.

    16. Nope! I got my first BJD when I was 15 years old. I bought him second-hand because I really wanted a BJD, and he was affordable. I was not very keen on him, so eventually, he was sold. No regrets!

Almost a decade later, I'm happy I can own dolls that I actually want rather than opting for what I can afford.

    17. Nope! My first doll was a Luts KDF Cherry, who ended up being too small and immature for my taste. I gifted her to a friend so she could go on to be their first doll, too <3

    18. yes I still have my first doll ,he is 20years old ...I had him alone for a couple of years but then added many, too many more

    19. My first BJD was a Lati Blue Shaina and I still have her!
I had looked at different BJD at the time, but they hadn't seemed to be quite worth the prize. I didn't have a lot of money and every decision had to be carefully made. For a long time I couldn't do anything but reading up and enjoying the hobby through others. But she was the first I felt was really worth the money to me personally, the first that wasn't just "nice doll, but too expensive" but reached into the teritory of "I need this doll, how can I afford her?"

I still have her, nearly two decades later and while I now have several other dolls that are very special to me for their own reasons, she is still my favourite if I had to name one.

    20. I don't have it anymore, it was a raurencio studio megumi, today it's with a friend. I no longer have the desire to collect dolls smaller than msd. :)

    21. I still have my first doll!

She is a hybrid MSD size (a Mayak Nitori head on a Black Cherry body). She is the only doll I keep on display. I made a swinging chair that hangs from the ceiling by my window. I don't get much sunlight, so I am not that concerned about yellowing. I don't do much with her nowadays, as she hates co-operating with me to pose and has a difficult body shape to make clothes for.

    22. Unfortunately, I don't. Turned out that they weren't quite what I was looking for.

    23. I do! And I still love him very much. :) My aesthetic taste in dolls has changed and expanded over the years for sure, but I still love the older style dolls probably the most. (give me those 18mm eyed boys yes please!!) The magic in those early memories are very special to me and also...he still just fits the look I love in dolls today. If I had never seen him before today and he suddenly popped up on the MP...I'd probably still go nuts trying to adopt him. :XD:

He's an Abio Angel Er, for reference.

    24. My first doll was a Luts KDF Darae, I got her in 2013. It was right out of college and I felt like I could finally participate in the hobby without judgement so I was very excited to finally receive her from Luts. When I had to sell my other dolls I kept her and have always had a soft spot for her even though she hasn't been out of the box much in 11 years. I have plans to turn her into a mod 60's girl and make her some mod outfits, whenever I get around to that :sweat She'll need a cute Twiggy style faceup for sure!

    25. Yes, I do. Kelyn is a Dream of Doll Wi, and he's never leaving. :kitty1 He's been with me since 2006.

      • x 1
    26. I do! He's a Luts Zuzu Delf Velo. I actually tried to sell him a few times, but felt bad about it and decided to keep him! I can't remember if I got him in 2009 (when his specific edition was released) or later, but he's been with me a long time!

    27. Yep, I still have my first boy. I won him in a competition when I collected other dolls. It wasn’t until years later that I actually bought a few BJDs. He’s still beautiful. He’s a Doll in Mind boy. I can’t recall off the top of my head if he’s Sergei or Aleksei.

    28. My first doll is on the shelf next to my bed. I have no intention of getting rid of her for as long as I live. Got her when I was a teenager, nearly 15 years ago. Maybe ages down the road, my daughter might get her as an heirloom.

      • x 2
    29. Nope, she was one of the first Angel Region 55cm sculpts and for the life of me I can't recall what the sculp was called. I got her back in 2001 and I think I sold her in 2004.

    30. Yes, I bought him back in 2009. I said I would never sell my first doll. Even though I don't really care about him now, and don't want him anymore. I have 'retired him' so he just sits as is. He did a lot for me growing up, and I loved him so much. I feel bad about it now, and while its just a doll its a promise I made to him. Because I know if I sold him I would regret it.

    31. I still have her, not on display for now, but I do.
She is a DoD Shall. Tbh, she wouldn't be something I would buy anymore, but she's so special and has a place in my heart so I don't think I will ever sell her!

    32. Yes, I still have my first doll.
He's a Blue Blood Doll Valentine, and you see him in my display picture. He's since gotten a little bit of a makeover and he's now a green-eyed red head. But he's still with me. I can't see myself parting with him.

    33. I do! He's a Mystic Kids Francis and I've grown so incredibly attached to him, but I bought him impatiently without planning the character, and after all these years of developing him I've come to terms with the fact that his sculpt just doesn't look like the character. I have my eye on a different sculpt that matches his character perfectly, but I keep holding back from re-shelling him because of that "first doll" attachment. Some times I think I'm 100% certain that I'll sell him and re-shell, and other days I get so sad and emotional over the thought of it and can't bring myself to follow through!! Ahhhh this is my biggest dilemma ever.

    34. Still Have my first doll !
She is a DIM Happy Fantasia i bought second hand! I will always keep her, she means a lot to me

    35. Unfortunately I do not. My first doll was Dollzone Megi fullset and I think I got him in 2009. He was with me maybe two years. I did sell him back in the day as he did not have a character and I started collecting more SD size dolls.

    36. When I bought my first doll, I was Sixteen, and had just had a fight with my (abusive) ex-girlfriend. We broke up because she wasn’t attracted to women, but she dated me (a femme, but not quite a woman—at the time I was a woman though). I started a layaway for a $700 ringdoll fullset doll, totally on a whim, despite that my layaway payments were almost my whole salary at my part time, barely over minimum wage job.

when I got him, I was overwhelmed by his size (72cm), but I thought he was beautiful, which I still lowkey agree with. He was a very well-made fullset. I sold him in 2020, because his character was written between me and the ex, and I couldn’t see him as anyone but his fullset character.

I sold him to buy the absolute jewel of my collection and my favourite doll: Shrike. In a way, this means my first doll’s legacy is my favourite doll, and I kind of like that.

    37. I do not have my first doll anymore (a CP Soo), but she was adopted by a friend so I still see her every now and then what is nice. I had some situations and people that I associated with her and it's ultimately what made me sell her. Now when I see her I feel mostly a nostalgic feeling but I also wouldn't want to have her back though.

    38. I still have mine! He's an Angel Region Ren that I bought secondhand in 2012 (he's from 2007). He was my first grail, and I still love him very much, even though the hobby's general taste in dolls has changed over time. I have no plans to get rid of him whatsoever.

    39. I actually recently sold my first doll to a close friend. I had wiped his faceup intending to redo it and give him a new character, but he sat around for a couple years in that state and it felt like he needed a new home that might appreciate him more. This way, he will get the appreciation he deserves and my friend has already offered to send me updates on him! I can't wait to see what he does with him.

    40. I stil have my first doll bought more than a decade ago (2008) ^^. He is a Luts Kid Delf Hodoo who was, at that time, an underrated sculpt. Here's my little gloomcookie:

    41. No, I don't.

She was an amazing starter doll for me, but eventually I figured out that I preferred another kind of doll/brand. Still miss her from time to time, though.

    42. My first doll was a Delf Soony from luts around 2007-2008 ish. I remember back then, before paypal was a huge thing for paying outside my country, I tried to sell the head only with banktransfer method. In the end the head was sendt and the buyer got it for "free" as they came with a lot of excuses for transfer errors. I considered it a loss because the buyer didn't want to send it back without me paying for the shipping. I was also super naive back then so I left alone. First and last time selling something outside my country.

    43. Ive been in the hobby since 2006 and due to a hiatus I took where I sold all of my dolls, I dont have my first doll still. My first was a Custom House Little Junior Zephyrose and I sold him to someone on the forum and I no longer remember who I have sold him to. However I do miss him and wish that I kept my original collection as I had some grails in there I wish I could repurchase.

    44. Yes. I started collecting in 2015, and i don't have a lot of resin-babies, so I still have all of them. :)

    45. Yes, I bought my first BJD in 2006 (DollShe Bermann from Tensiya) and he's still one of the crown jewels in my collection! I'm pretty disgustingly consistent in my tastes though so that's certainly played a huge part.

    46. No, It was the sleeping version of Dollshe Bernard and I sold that head once I was able to find the OE version of his head. The sleeping version of Bernard that I had was also the faceplate version and the magnets in it were not the best so it kept slipping down when I would try to put his wig on. However I had this head on an older Leekeworld body as I wanted a smaller size doll, I did keep that body and it is still one of my favorites of all the doll bodies that I have owned :)

    47. Yes. Once love, forever love. Just Zaoll. <3 She is still my favorite. 10 years!

      • x 2
    48. Yes, I still own my first doll, Moswen (AoD Chi in tan) and he'll be 16 years old this fall. After all that time (and a collection now sitting at 83 full dolls), he's still my favourite. Additionally, the only thing I've sold is a Miro body that 2 different sculpts hated (and at the time I had no floating heads so it needed to GTFO).

The only thing I've changed about him in all that time is his wig as his original was begging to be retired after like 12 or 13 years. He needs to be re-painted (he's my most heavily played with doll) but I'm loathe to send him out. I've also got to re-string him as he's now pretty loose (he's still rocking his original AoD elastic).

    49. My first doll was a Migidoll Miho. I sold him long ago, but I have since owned several Mihos. I can't seem to let my love for the Migidoll boys go, so I keep trying with them even though I have mostly moved on to collecting only CP Delfs.

Currently I have a floating, blank Miho head in storage and even though I have no immediate plans to do anything with him, I also don't intend to let this one go. I'm hoping that once I've acquired all of the Delfs I really want, I will have room in my head and heart to bring my Migidoll Miho to life again (and Ryu, my other early Migidoll love. I want the trio of Ryu, Miho and Jina <3)

    50. My first doll was a Luts bory unicorn moonlit song. Luts was the company that introduced me to bjds when I was younger, so it was kind of ironic I ended up with one as my first doll too! But I realized I didn't really like msds as I preferred more mature sculpts and larger dolls. I sold him about a year later since I couldn't connect with him too. I learned how to restring and everything with him though, so he'll forever hold a special place in my heart wherever he is hopefully getting the love he deserves!

    51. I still have mine! He's a DollZone Hid that I bought circa 2008. I'm not terribly fond of the MSD size now, but I can't bear to sell him.

    52. No I sold them. Was in bad place mentally was selling everything off & thinking that life never gonna be good so I don’t need those expensive dolls anymore.

    53. Yep, I still have mine, a Luts Moon from 2008, and he’s still one of my favourites. I’ve kept almost all my dolls over the years, and have only sold maybe 2 or 3? I’m very picky about the dolls I buy (at least BJD) and rarely have the desire to sell any.

    54. I got into the doll hobby in 2007 when I bought a lone little head from a face-up panel at an anime convention!
Bought her body from the same maker in 2008. Still have her! She's a Lady Saiyuki Ted in Lilac resin.

    55. Heavens no! At the beginning I did so much experimenting, learning the ins and outs of bjds and discovering my own personal aesthetic along the way. Because I was on a tight budget, I needed to sell in order to try out something new…and this is how I learned. Today I have a large collection of dolls I absolutely love, and I haven’t sold a doll in years. But to tell the truth, I don’t even recall what that first doll even was at this point. It was nearly two decades ago!:ablink:

    56. I still have my first doll, and I will never let her go. She's the reason I joined this hobby. I bought her as a floating head nine years ago. She's always been a hybrid. She has a different body now than she did the year I got her.

    57. yes i still have my first doll. She’s a Dollzone mist strayer. I actually wanted to get a Ji Zero but i joined the hobby right after her first pre-order so i got mist strayer instead. I thought about selling her bc i found out my preferred size is SD and she is MSD but i just couldn’t let go. Then i decided to mod her body so she looks a bit more like a robot and love her like i did on the 1st day :whee:
She had her 4th birthday in July :3nodding:

    58. My first doll is from Resinsoul and i still have him. He is very important to me. I bought him from my brigade jobs as a student

    59. I’ve got my first doll, Hiro, B&G Rin in 2009. He’s my sentimental favorite, with his sweet smile. [IMG]

    60. My first doll was a Dhal, if you consider it as a bjd and she is still at home with me. She's 20 years old and she is an special edition with H Naoto clothes
