A few months ago I did a series of paintings using some of my dolls as reference. Spoiler: two Spoiler: three Spoiler: four Spoiler: five
I typically draw my dolls. I like my dolls to have a place in my story. my one character lizard was extremely annoying because he was the only one who's look was based off a doll in the first place, so finding a doll that matched him was impossible. so i changed him. i like him more now, but it was extreamly annoying at the time. also if I find an amazing doll I sometimes draw it and it turns into a character.
Wasn't sure where to post, but the gallery section said photographs, so I'm trying my sketch here in general discussion since I didn't see a drawing section. I saw the Villitunes dolls for the first time and absolutely fell in love! So, later today I got out my tablet and sketched what i could remember. Just wanted to share. Nothing fancy with a stubby stylus, but I hope y'all like her! Dropbox - bjd.villitunes.may2019.png - Simplify your life
I've drawn both Meta and Fion before! (One of my artworks of Fion is my current forum avatar!) Kazhiel, though, is the reverse, I drew and designed his character before I got his doll! I'm planning on trying to make official profile art for all of my dolls, once I finish their "official" outfits.
No, but I write their stories. I wish I could though; artists are amazing! Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with the ability to draw
I've recently started reading some webtoons, and it's made me want to write one. I'd love to make one about a BJD and use the actual doll as a reference. They're so beautiful, why not use them as a model?
I draw my doll often, with different designs for clothes because I'm interested in making some later.
I do, but mostly because he's intended to be shelling an OC of sorts (had a basic concept in mind but nothing completely set in stone when the doll arrived). It's been rough trying to work out a style for him so doodling helps. BJDs are wonderful for pose references, too. Far more useful than those "artist model" mannequins you find.
Yes, I at least try. They're actually very useful, not only for pose reference but for learning how to draw different kinds of features, especially since naturally I suffer somewhat from sameface syndrome. My latest boy Janis has been a lot of help with this in particular.
I've only ever drawn headshots of my first doll but the last time I did that was in 2015, I think I might try again I also drew some members of his family but that was such a long time ago that I don't think those dolls will come to fruition seeing as my tastes have changed a bit
I imagine them in my head first, then I draw them out and then looking for dolls that resembling my characters this most.
I've drawn my doll a few times, I'm still waiting for him to arrive but I wanted to draw him so I could start planning out what kind of clothes I want to buy or make for him. I'm also planning on having my next doll be a shell for one of my OCs, so that one I've drawn quite a few times.
mot my dolls tend to start out as drawings,it usually helps me make up concepts before diving in and buying/customizing doll pieces. i love doing things like extra eyes, horns, pointed ears or mutated features so it's always good to have a visible ref for me,lots of times its just an oc i like a lot that ends up getting a doll
Just did a quick sketch for him yesterday! I haven't spent time with him for ages due to working/aweful weather etc. Kinda miss him.
Wendy on Instagram: “Drew my Lilith #bjd #balljointeddoll #dollzone #dzluoluo #luoluo #dollzoneluoluo #digitaldrawing #ipad #sketchbook #sketchbookapp #purple…” I finally drew my Lilith :3
I've been playing the L5R tabletop RPG as a one-man army of my primary dolls, Adhara and Guórén (well, they have different use names there, but their personalities are nigh identical to their "canon" forms). I recently managed to storyboard an entire session, not exactly a walk in the park! Storyboarding L5R Session 02 by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr
I haven't drawn my own doll yet, but this is my sisters doll and I drew this for her as her birthday card. This is Hippu (Lillycat Bo) This is quite quick drawing so not my best, but she liked it. And I used iPad Pro and Apple pencil and Procreate to draw this. The background picture is some random stock photo. I don't really like her hair, something is off there, but it could be worse.
I drew my doll really often but I need to get used to it again because I had a long break with art because of my job... I would like to draw more often but I end up sketching the most of the time xD
i love when this thread gets little bursts of activity glad to see its still goin strong i'll drop off some of my recent doll art while im at it:
It puts a smile to my face whenever people could identify which clans they belong to just by looking. X3
I’ve drawn my characters, but they don’t translate exactly into dolls since it’s quite hard to perfectly form what you envision. I don’t mind adjusting the design since the character begins to get a life of its own.
My current doll was originally an OC before she was a doll, so I've drawn her quite a bit; the most recent is this one, although it's not finished at all Spoiler: art of my doll/OC Risel Spoiler: the doll version of her for comparison There's a few other OCs that I plan to shell as dolls, so they'll inevitably have a lot of art of them before they exist in doll form too.
I try, but I’m not so good at it! I try to draw their characters and what I would like for them to look like, but it’s just rough concepts really haha.
I have nothing to show for it at the moment, but I've doodled a couple of them once or twice and I love seeing other people's art of their dolls! I'm in camp "not allowed to let myself think of shelling preexisting ocs or else it'll never end."
His doll shell is currently disassembled to update his faceup (and the clothes are not what he usually wears), but the character is Guórén, my Granado Noah.
This thread actually inspired me to draw a little sketch of Kiska and here’s her helping out of course
We're going to be switching our TTRPG format to one that is closer to Dungeons & Dragons 5e, so I got hyped and gave my two primary doll characters some updated looks. I intend to implement their outfits on their doll forms eventually (in fact, some some parts were recycled from their real-life preexisting costumes). My mind shuts down a bit whenever I think of all the hours it'd take to make her armor, though.
Oh no, its sad that this thread has become a bit dormant! Let's do something about that... Here is my most recent drawing. (Fer, background: Dimitri) They do not strongly resemble the dolls themselves in this one, this is definitely character/ narrative illustration work vs. actual doll portraiture specifically. Link
Joining in on helping this thread pick back up! Small update to the above post I actually have drawn my dolls in the last couple of years :> I never finished but this is where I left off will i ever finish it.....no...
I think those drawings are all really great @nyaaain I had to dig too far to try to find this one I made a couple weeks ago, but I really like it. This one has a flexible but more accurate likeness to my doll Dimitri Link
@AlisonVonderland thanks! I think you captured Dimitri's cute smile with that one! I love seeing your interpretations of your dolls. They're never quite what I expect so it's very cool to see them through your eyes.
I typically use Picrew for character mapping/planning but I really need to get back into drawing so I can really capture my dolls characters
My dolls are usually ocs I've already drawn. Salem as a character is several years older than his doll version, for example. Spoiler: My boy~ I've still got a ways to go with his outfit but I love him very much.
I don't really draw my *dolls* but I sometimes draw the characters they're based on. I more try to have the dolls look like how I'd draw them than try to have my drawings try to match a doll (partly because I struggle to draw characters looking the same more than once lol). I haven't drawn very much for a while, sadly. It's one of my goals to do more this year, so maybe I'll have things to share then!
I don't draw too much these days, doll playing takes up all my free time... But I had the sketchbook out last night so here's my two favourite boys, Vallant and Justinian. Spoiler: Photo of the dolls And the dolls.
Wow! That is absolutely gorgeous! I love your style I like the way you have drawn the eyes, hair and smile. I draw sometimes I wish I had more motivation to do so and I seem to either have a burst of really drawing and then not for months sometimes. However I have not ever really drawn any of my dolls, I guess it would be fun to try it one day. Sometimes I draw ideas for faceups or tattoos for my dolls though… hmmm
Since he is based off my FFXIV character I have drawn him before. Nowadays I don't really draw all that much but if I do I can post at least one on here in the future!
I've been wanting to make something that gives a reference for Vanora's dredge line mark, so I started this. Unfortunately, I still haven't figured out how to draw said dredge line so I've stalled for a bit xD I'm going to try painting it in watercolors and gouache once I do (I also need to finish figuring out her dredge line so i can include it on her doll form...which i realised more recently lol)
New Yanagi (Pencezero Riel) isn't home yet but I've been sketching her a bit. I want to make her something edgy, like a sukeban. The hime cut and oversized boots are staying for sure.
