Do Clothes Make The (Spider) Girl? Click Here For Large Picture Edition - Contains one non-spoiler covered nude doll photo.. There's a saying "clothes make the man." Well I wonder if that's true for spider girls as well. I've always thought of my custom six-armed spider girl as difficult to clothe due to all those extra arms, but I recently determined I actually have a surprisingly large number of outfits that she can wear. Even many dresses with shoulder straps will work if the strap opening is big enough for her two front-most pairs of arms to both fit through. So I decided to take photos of some of the outfits just to see how much clothes make the girl. I'll number the outfits so people can comment on them more easily. (You can also like individual photos at the link above.) We'll start with her in her most known incarnation, Star from the Hesvar stories. A no-nonsense, hard life girl who honestly probably doesn't have much fashion sense of her own. Fortunately she found a good clothier to give her a look fitting of her complete willingness to use those knives whenever necessary. IMG 1 Now let's see how this same girl comes across in different clothes. First we take her back to an almost blank canvas. Having six arms comes in handy when preserving one's modesty, but what better starting point to decide if clothes make the girl? Note that there's a naked doll trying to cover herself under that spoiler tag. Skip it if it's a problem for you. Spoiler IMG 2 Next we move to her earlier look on Hesvar. As simple jumper still sticking with the spider theme. Of course the Hesvar version of her would still have her knives, boots and leggings, but we forgo such accessories for all the remaining photos. I think purple is a nice color for her though. IMG 3 Next up another look she's worn before, although I don't think with her current wig and eyes. And I'm not sure if this was the exact skirt used with the corset. It may have even been black shorts. IMG 4 Now let's move on to styles of clothing she's not worn before. First some long dresses. We start with a simple blue dress with a rather revealing top. Good thing it matches her skin well. IMG 5 Next up a very different vibe with a light pink dress. I suspect people would react rather differently to her in this versus her spider dress from the first photo. IMG 6 And now a similar style but in light blue. Unfortunately this one is just a bit too loose for her small bust so it would need a tuck or two to look its best. Even then I'm not convinced the light greenish-blue is really for her. IMG 7 Here's another very different look. I think a somewhat somber dress but one definitely tailored more for her bust size. I'm not sure how I feel about this one on her. IMG 8
How about some shorter dresses? Based on Star from Hesvar short dresses seem like things she'd more likely agree to wear with her black tights and boots. But I'm not sure this first black and white one isn't a bit too dainty for her? IMG 9 And this one gives off a more innocent vibe to me for some reason. The stars and polka dots? IMG 10 Now a couple tube style dresses. The first one I think gives her a softer or perhaps more rustic look. IMG 11 This one is similar in style to her spider dress. Lots so stretch. At first glance my brain sometimes thinks she's not wearing a bottom as the light blue at the bottom of the dress blends so well with her skin color. I could see Star wearing this one. It might please her scientist and sky-crazed friends. IMG 12 Next some club wear perhaps? I'm not really feeling that red is her color in this one. IMG 13 Definitely black goes better with her coloring and make up. But maybe use the shorts from above with this top? IMG 14 Finally a high collared fancy dress. She wore this once long ago when she still had the color-mismatched small bust piece Soul Doll originally sent my mistake. (They quickly corrected their error, and I got to use the mismatched bust as practice for the 2 to 6 arm mod.) Also she had a very different wig and eyes back then and the character of Star wasn't even a concept. IMG 15 And here's the dress with it's train attached. A wider shot would probably have been better but I tried to keep the framing and posing mostly the same to just compare outfits. IMG 16 The fancy dresses look good on her, but her metal collar bulging out from under the dress's neck piece isn't a great look. I didn't try to see if the collar could get over the dress as I didn't want to remove her head. So there's lot of different looks. I do think there's something to be said for the concept of the clothes make the girl, superficially of course. But you know people get judged based on what they wear.
I like the looks with the shorts, her punky hair makes me think she's pretty adventurous. But her dresses are lovely as well, she's got lots of options to match where she's going!
Hmm I think my favs are 13, 15, 16! I agree that for 13 red isn't her color, but the lace top and leather pants look gives her so much personality! Maybe if it was white or silver instead? The formal dresses are so pretty, I personally don't notice the collar in the pics
Oh my goodness she's gorgeous! I really do adore dress #15 for her. I actually also think #12 is a good casual dress for her
She can really pull off so many different looks! It's really cool you have enough clothes that can fit her to make this photo shoot!
I like the purple jumper, the shorts and lace bandeau look (the emphasis on the bum/hips makes her seem even more spidery?) and the dramatic black dress at the end. However, the softer look of the pink halter dress gives a different kind of horror vibe that is interesting too. Like she used to be human but mutated. Very unique girl!
The last one with the fancy dress looks so regal! A very powerful concept. #4 is one of my favorites. It looks so cute and cool! She definitely can pull off any look!
Oh its so nice to see Star again! Image 1 definitely suits her spider vibes. And I'm probably a bit biased towards it because of Hesvar lol. I love how image 3 looks with her skin. Maybe some kind of black top underneath would help her be a bit more modest? Either way its probably one of if not my favorite. The pink color on 6 works well with her as well. Love number 12. Super gorgeous dress. I like it better than 13 for clubbing honestly. Also love the dress in the last two. I don't really think its her style, but she totally rocks it.
Hmm, seems the trend is the tighter clothes are more popular. Clearly her nice figure is appreciated. Thinking of her as Star it's hard to say if she's adventurous or not. A woman of action definitely, but a little shy. So I guess it depends on the situation. I might have a white lace top around somewhere. If nothing else I could pair the black lace top from #14 with the shorts in #13. Thanks. #15 is coming in pretty popular. Makes sense. It is the dress Soul Doll made for the Spider Queen release. Unfortunately it was clearly made for the large bust which for Soul Doll is much larger. It could use some taking in up top to really fit her. Thanks. I was surprised just how many outfits I have she can actually wear. Thanks. I really like the purple jumper too. Maybe it's partly because it was an outfit I had for her before she even arrived. She's probably my most unique doll because of the 6 arm mod I did to the small bust. Definitely the most adventurous mod I've done. I can see emphasizing her hips giving her a more spider like appearance with their two part abdomens. I wonder if that's part of what is attracting others to the tighter clothes. The last one is actually from the "Spider Queen" release so regal was likely on the mind of the designers. I'm sure they'd be pleased you see it. I like #4 as well as I think purple looks really good on her. I'm sure there's a lot of bias towards #1 for you, and maybe #3 also from Hesvar. But I think you're talking about #5 for a top underneath right? I'm not really one for the club scene so I'll pass on your advice about #12 if she decides to hit one up. Speaking of wholesome pink #6, I have to add this photo/caption just for @Havra *Girl looks at card in her hand thinking to herself this can't really be the right address for the medical study. Such a sketchy neighborhood but we need the money...*
A customized version of Soul Doll's Junia Spider Queen with an Arina head, small bust, and six arms instead of four.
