Here is a pattern I used to make a saddle for my 20 inch tall (MSD siize) Generation Girl Battat horse. Made of aluminum flashing, Upholstery cord, felt, glue and thread. Will cover the saddle with leather and make the leather knee padding with straps and stirrups to suit the horse and doll. DIY pattern Generation Girl Battat horse saddle by Linda, on Flickr Cut bottom felt piece a little larger than top. Cut the metal seat without the front extension so the front remains soft. The soft front accommodates a male doll's body. Aluminum metal flashing (aluminum can might work) is shaped to fit the horse and doll before assembling the saddle. Glue the upholstery cord as shown on the pattern to the underside of the metal seat. Glue the felt top and bottom to make a sandwich. Cut two pieces for the sides and whip stitch the side to the top and bottom. stuff front before closing. "20 inch tall" Excuse me, you mean floor to withers or floor to head? Sorry, I'm just figuring out an optimal height for my next horse. I think I'll go for 25 inches floor to withers. I think higher will be too large for an SD. What do you think? Thank you for this idea. I'm going to improve my saddle
The height of this Battat horse is to top of head 19.25 inches to top of ears 20" For your SD I calculate 25.67 inches tall to top of head (based on 22 inch tall SD compared to my 16.5" MSD doll and 19.25 inch tall horse) (22x19.25)/16.5=25.67 Will you make a horse carriage too? That is what I want to make for my horse. I have my sister on the hunt for a yard sale horse. She told me she passed one up like mine for only $3. Sad she missed it. lol
Thank you. I'm starting making a horse now. Will post SD horse patterns with measurements in centimeters after resizing. I always dreamed of making a carriage, but I have no idea what it can be made of. I can work well only with fabric so will have to learn a lot of I decide to try
This is great! I have a couple horses from American Girl and was wondering how they will work with my dolls.
I found this tutorial on YT and like this method much better plus it adds lots of details on how to make a English saddle
I love this saddle idea! Horse experts- is there a resource for historical saddles? I'd love to take this tutorial and apply it to a baroque or rococo setting.
