Hi, I'm in the midst of doing a batch of faceups and am wondering how I should package them when they're done. I can't seem to find a retail source that makes the plastic face guards small enough for my doll (4" head circumference). So, I was wondering about reusing/recycling some regular packaging to the same effect. Has anyone done anything similar or have any suggestions for packaging that might be the right kind of shape to work with...? I can't think of many egg-shaped things! Last time i wrapped the heads in cellophane which was not a good idea because it stuck to the gloss in places >_< Any suggestions gratefully received! )
Would plastic easter eggs work? I also found this http://www.amazon.com/Dress-My-Cupc...55&sr=8-16&keywords=large+easter+plastic+eggs that you could cut up. I am not sure if they are big enough. You probably don't want to go through the trouble, but someone in my highschool engineering class someone made a super ghetto vacuum form mold thing using Plexiglas and a vacuum. I forget how we heated the plastic but it actually worked pretty well.
When I got my Soom faery head (which is tiny and obviously too small for any of their face-up protectors), they had protected her face by wrapping a piece of cardboard around her head (covering her ears, neck hole and top of head, leaving the back of the head and the face exposed). This worked because the cardboard strip was wider than the head, so there was a long rim of cardboard protruding past her face, so anything moving towards her face would hit cardboard instead. You could make it even safer by taping over the opening (there'd be no risk to the face-up, as the tape wouldn't touch the doll's face in any way) to prevent anything getting past the cardboard. You could also add bubblewrap under the cardboard where it would touch the head, if you were worried about the cardboard scuffing the MSC along the sides of the head (it didn't happen with my faery girl, but better safe than sorry!). Here's a photo I found in someone's box opening that shows what I mean, since I'm sure my description was a bit confusing XD
I use styrofoam cups, cut to the appropriate size with a neck hole cut in one side. You can put them on like a bonnet.
i have received dolls with Icee lids as faceup protectors before (was the most entertaining box opening i've ever had XD) this was for an SD so i'm not sure if it'd work for other sized heads
