Discussion Thread for 3rd Annual San Diego BJD Con, Nov. 5th, 2011

Sep 6, 2011

    1. I wish I could go this year! But I'll be in SD in October for World Fantasy Con and can't afford both trips :( I can't wait for pictures though!

    2. I'm definitely thinking about going to this! I'm new and don't really know people in the BJD community, especially in the San Diego area so I look forward to meeting new people there :D (And also a little intimidated because of this :sweat)

    3. I'm interested in going! I just need to find someone who's willing to go with me, since I don't know anyone in my area who's interested in bjd's.

    4. I think I might just go to this ;) We have close friends in San Diego, that live right by Mission Bay. It will be a good excuse to see them and go to my first doll con :D

    5. It's always a nice group--and there's usually some great stuff to buy--and of course LOTS of dolls to look at! :)

      {I might be out of town that weekend... but maybe not...}

    6. I might go. I've wanted to go to a doll convention.

    7. Ooo...this would be a bit of a drive for me, but it's tempting just so I can see all the different dolls.

    8. Damn California gets all the good stuff. Hate being on the east coast LOL

    9. Bruce, could you PM Pam and I dealer info? Thanks, m'dear :)

    10. oh, i like the theme. sounds fun. =)

    11. Chehime: Sorry you won't be able to make it. It was great having you down last year and we'll miss you! :(

polkadotstars : We're a very friendly bunch! Come and enjoy, it's always nice to meet new people into BJDs! :dance

MrsDiablo: I hope you can make it! As we get closer to the date I'll do a post for car pooling.

Starry City: I hope you do! Mission Bay is beautiful, and a great place to see many great dolls!

april: It's always great if you can make it April! I love seeing your dolls and the wonderful costumes! :celebrate

zekarmisama: I hope you do! It's a lot of fun :)

MacaronTea: San Diego is a wonderful destination all in itself, and the BJD con adds even more! ;)

jennspeaks: Sorry to hear you are too far!

clochette: Sent you an email. It will be great to have you and PamSD there again this year! You both always have such fantastic clothes for sale. :D

orphansparrow: Yes, the theme is a good one, I think! Lots of possibilities!

    12. I was curious on if anyone may know when the doll costume contest details might be posted up to the website? I am a rather slow sewer, so if I can make it down I'd love to get started as soon as I can. ^_^

    13. The costume contest will be a secret ballot with prizes for 1st and 2nd Place for Best Supernatural Orleans, plus one Honorable Mention. Attendees can enter one doll or several dolls as one entry, or as multiple entries. Each attendee can only win one prize regardless of the number of entries.

I hope that helps! :dance :celebrate

    14. Brucedabold - thank you very much, that's just what indeed. ^_^

    15. man, I really wish I could go. the theme this year sounds awesome and I always have a ton of fun, but things have gotten complicated since I moved out of san diego. I probably won't be able to make it down there, seeing as I don't drive.

    16. The room as been measured and plans are afoot for the display area featuring a creeeepy Supernatural Orleans theme! Get those costume plans going... :bahaha :)

    17. Oh sad day, I cannot go this year. This'll be the first time I've missed it.

    18. I can't wait!

    19. My mom and I will be attending this, of course. We can't wait either, as this year's theme is more of our style! Now, to decide which dolls are going, and what they're wearing!

    20. Do you have a pre-sign-up site this year?

I think I might be able to come after all!!! Yay!!!

I love New Orleans at Halloween--it is THE best place to be! The French Quarter and Garden District is just hopping! Plus, all the ghost tours are fantastic. It's a great theme for the con! :D

    21. No pre-ticket purchase this year. $10 at the door gets you a hand stamp good for all day.

And yeah April! It'll be great to see you and the dolls you'll bring!

    22. YES! My first doll meet! I'm new to San Diego so it'll be fun. I don't know anyone either ^^*

    23. Awesome! And welcome! You'll find that most of us that are going to be there are locals, so this will definitely be a meet up worth going to! Can't wait to meet you!

    24. Oh noes! I live 8hrs away! I wish I could go! Dx does anyone know about a con in SF?? I could go to that for sure xD

    25. The planning and building are continuing a pace for the 3rd Annual San Diego BJD Con!

We have a bunch of dealers coming, including:
      Pixiedust Design

plus, Ms. Cholong will be coming down as well! Woo-hoo!

The Supernatural Orleans display 1/3 scale display area is nearly complete! Look for posing your dolls in the graveyard, next to the haunted mansion, or on Bourbon Street! Don't forget the doll costume contest!

See all of you on Saturday, November 5th, 2011! :)

    26. Just FYI, we will be raffling off this wonderful Lagoon doll from Batchix at the convention. For just $10 a ticket you can have the chance to win this BJD, face-up, wig, eyes, and outfit. :)

    27. :dance Just 5 -- count them -- 5! days away! :dance

How's everyone's costume going? The Bourbon Street Mansion is done, the graveyard crypts look awesome, and the moon is ready to rise! Aaarrrooooooo! Supernatural Orleans is nearly here!

    28. I happened to hear that the photo sets/panoramas are looking absolutely fantastic!!! I can't wait to see them. :D

What are the categories for the costume contest? Just "Supernatural New Orleans"? (Just curious. I'm not planning anything! Seriously!)

    29. Can you please post the exact time and place where this event will be held and also what are the planned activities for that day. I am coming from San Francisco and don't know San Diego that much. Thank you

    30. Hi! In the very first post of this thread, there is a link to the actual meet up thread. All the information you will need can be found there.

    31. OH DARN! I was really hoping to attend, but I have family flying in from Utah on Saturday!

Please guys, take lots of pictures! I was so wanting to see all the sets and costumes!

      Everyone have a wonderful time!

    32. ONE DAY AWAY OMG!

:run in circles scream and shout

    33. Oh, too bad, Rabbit-moon! But family comes first... especially out-of-town visitors.

I'm going to be dressing dolls all day! *_*

It'll be great to see everyone and their many dolls!!! :D

    34. Yay! I am super excited! I will definitely be there tomorrow! :D It was a lot of fun last year!

    35. See you all tomorrow - rain or shine! It's indoors, so no worries if the weather is not the best. My dolls are dressed (whew!), I have all the stuff I'm supposto bring - including cupcakes! See, you all want to come and taste my homemade cupcakes - yes? :aheartbea :fangirl:

    36. So excited!!

But I just realized I forgot my camera in Fullerton...:doh

    37. Another fantastic event!!! Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put it on!!! :D

    38. Thank you, Bruce, for another great year...we're looking forward to the next one!

    39. Just chiming into say that I had a FANTASTIC time! Bruce, this mini con has been the best one so far! Each year gets even better than the last! There was a huge turn out, and I know a handful of people who couldn't make it, so there was still quite a few people who had wanted to attend.

My mom also said that she would be willing to volunteer to make an outfit for a prize for next year. And if you ever need help making sets or setting up, let us know and we'd be more than happy to help out!

Thanks to you and all who helped for making more great memories!

    40. This was my first time getting to go~! My Aunt took my two cousin's and I. My younger cousin, who is 12 (although she seems so much older) loves my two dolls and is hopping to get her very own around Christmas this year. It was fun to be there with her, spending time there with someone as interested as I am! We went around a talked with some of the venders and some collectors that have been going for /much/ longer than we've even been interested in BJD's. One lady even let her hold one of her little SOOM dolls, she was thrilled. Anyway, a job well done! Can't wait till next time!

    41. The event was fantastic! Many thanks to all my helpers, to the vendors, and all the wonderful people who came! The weather was perfect, the space just fit everyone, the food didn't completely run out, and the Supernatural Orleans display looked great with everyone's dolls!

The costumes were superbly awesome! It was very hard to decide, and the vote tally came down to the last ballot! Wow!

I hope everyone had as much fun as I did and I'm looking forward to next year! The theme is already being batted around: Wild Wicked West. :dance

    42. I can't believe i missed this :(
