Discussion of 2007 Unoa Pre-order (Shipped Dec. 2007)

Dec 21, 2006

1. I got much the same just now:

Thank you for your payment. Your order is now effective.

It is going to be long wait.
We will let you know when your package is ready to be shipped.
You will need to send the actual shipping charge at the time.

Thank you very much for your order !

Masamichi Kuge,
Crescent Shop

2. It's pretty ridiculous that such a popular doll company makes people wait so long to get their dollies (both in waiting for preorders and waiting for shipping)

You'd think with their popularity they'd open up shop all round, they'd make a heckuva alot of money...

then again, thank goodness they're making them at all, eh? XD

3. I don't think Araki's goal is to make money with this little business. Ultimately, yes, but I know that what he loves most about these dolls is that people fall so incredibly in love with them. He wants to see his creations go to good homes! Perhaps the pre-order period is a test! I know that he creates the dolls personally, they may only be kits but setting this resin is a lot of tough work!

4. Actually Alchemic Labo has taken over production of the dolls. I'm sure they are just as exacting as Araki, but hopefully with more hands at work, the waiting period won't be as long. :)

5. I think I've read somewhere in the site that the people in the alchemic laboratory are 3. or maybe 4, I can't remember.

So maybe if before he was alone, now all together they will make dolls 3 times faster? :D

6. I know the wait can be difficult, but I love the fact that Araki is an artist, and he wants to keep the business small, at least that is my understanding of his intention. I don't know if I would feel the same way about them, if they were cranked out in a factory, and seeing them all over the internet. I think the charm of them would be lost somehow.

Hopefully, as both Brennil, and annetta mentioned with alchemic laboratory at Araki's side, the dolls can be made a little faster if just to alleviate the wait time.

7. The other thing with Araki, is that this is more of a side line for him. He makes a lot of garage kits, I think he likes to sculpt a lot of new designs, so he wants to spend his time on that. So thats why he has unoa orders so infrequently. He is doing other projects.

8. Hi Fitz!

I actually love this. He is an artist 1st, and the dolls although very popular, are a sideline project. It makes them more special, because of the infrequency of them. I must sound a bit off, to want Unoas, but I do love the fact that they are made in small amounts and come out at infrequent times. My dad is an artist so I actually understand this mind set. LOL!

9. I read something like this somewhere too, maybe a translation of the diary page? That they were going to change the production so that more people could get a doll. That might speed up the process. I think Araki was unhappy with the second hand market.

10. Hey, is there a place that I could read more about this doll artist in er, English? That and some of you seem to know when a preorder is coming out- where can I read this info? Will Crescent still offer a preorder, or will I have to check a different buying/selling site?
Thanks! Guess I am getting slightly obsessive...:D

Also, the faces in this preorder (um, ordered 3!) I have a pinky white narae- will they match her skintone? If not, which narae tone is the best match? :aheartbea

11. I don't think the U-noa faceplates will work on the Narae head. Narae's skintone is very translucent because of the different in resin type. Maybe you'd be okay with it, but I know I wouldn't be satisfied. :(

12. i think they will fit ok, there's a thread on here somewhere, but just like Damhnait said, the resin wont match i think.

13. I did a search on Google for Gentaro Araki ages ago and found this page.

But now when I do this search I find, amongst other things, this.

Hope this is of some interest. :)

14. I have Montparnasse :blush it's an extremely adult book! You really wouldn't want young kids seeing it.
Having said that, it's pretty amazing to see the variety of works that Araki creates.

15. ah ok, i forgot about that thread! :)

16. Hihihi, when I think about Araki and "adult" I'm reminded of that time I found some of his "manga".

GURO! He's such a prevert. XD

17. I have a question pertaining to the pre-order of the Unoa 2nd Dollybird kits. How much were they when there was the pre-order?? Thanks!

~Pakou

18. Hi! I believe they were 40,000 yen ea. The info can be found at this link.

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88359&page=3

Hope this helps.:)

19. Hi!

Yes, the kits will come with those fur wigs. "Sist" comes with her default wig White, and "Lusis" comes with her default wig "Antique Gold".

Those wigs are Great!

I do suggest you start saving now (I'm doing the same), because I don't know when the next pre-order will be, the last one for Girls was I think like 2 years ago.

Try not to miss it, as I'm trying to do this as well!

20. the last (and only one) unoa male preorder hasn't been made by araki but by ... can't remember the name, the ones who made also unoa 2nd special preorder. dollybird maybe?

I think it was more or less a year ago?

so it isn't sure if there will be another preorder, if araki sold the molds to dollybird then maybe is dollybird who have to make another preorder, and not araki.

the optional parts preorder which has just been done wasn't for the girls who will come this summer, but for the 2005 girls.
Usually the parts preorder comes after the girls preorder. (i think it's been made only another time thought)

21. The last boy preorder was through the publication UNOA FREAK at Hobby Japan.

22. LOL! Yes, it is. And Araki sold one of each, L-bi and B-el, painted and with outfits on Yahoo!japan. They went high, I can't recall how high though. They looked like they were dressed as waiters, both in black and white outfits which slightly varied. Their faces were amazing.

There must be pictures of them someplace on Araki's website. If I find it I will post it here.

23. the boys araki released as waitresses were so cute *3* they also had optional high feet

24. What exactly is the eye mechanism? Do you have to purchase that separately? I've never had a U-Noa before but I love them and plan on getting one this time around.

25. The eye mechanism comes with the doll - it enables the eyes to move side to side with out actually have to remove the eyes to do so. However, the problem with the mechanism, which I believe is why most don't use it, is because the eyes need to have holes in them for the mechanism to hold them. I think...that's just what I've heard, I don't have a Unoa.

I would like to know this too! I've heard so much about the lottery...which makes me nervous!

26. I've heard it will be a pre-order where everyone who orders will get their dolls. They make the dolls to fill all orders like in past pre-orders. (Hence the 6 month wait after ordering.)

However, I've also heard that they are making the dolls in advance. In which case a lottery may happen if the orders for the dolls exceeds their stock. This way there is no wait, but some people may just be out of luck.

I hope it's a pre-order so that everyone will get their dolls! I don't think we'll know exactly what's going on until Crescent Shop makes an announcement about it.

27. Here's a Unoa fact page that show the mechanism.

28. First of all, I apologize for the obnoxious watermarks, I just do NOT want to see these pics used on Ebay or a sales post. Feel free to steal them for other purposes. ^^

The ears and horns:

Square frame glasses (modeled by my dear Inugami):

Since I ordered from within Japan, I don't think it's the same method as the overseas orders. I think I might have had some lottery preference since I previously bought a doll from alchemic labo and there is a space where you write the order code for your doll. I am sure it is different for overseas orders though.

29. Dezarii - Nice pictures! Thanks so much for sharing them.. :D

One question, for the horns/ears/glasses, is the resin actually black or is it painted?

30. It's acctually black resin from what i understand. :3

31. NP! The horns and ears are black resin. I tried filing a tiny part of one of the horns and it was still black after filing. I am not sure though if the colour is consistant all the way through.

The glasses frames are also black resin, but I believe the...arms? The parts that hold it to the head are painted metal. I am not 100% sure though. Previous versions of glasses have plain silver arms, but these are black.

32. A question directed at Dezarii or whomever else that has already recieved their parts; do the dozing heads have carved out eye-wells or not? I've been thinking some rather dangerous and costly customization thoughts. <__<;

33. Yes they do! In fact, the resin is extremely thin over the eyes. I think these will be perfect for customization. ^__^

34. i have a question - when you preorder the lusis or sist with the large milk part, does it come with the small bust as well, or are you forgoing that to get just the large?

i like the idea of deciding who they'll become after i give them faceups, and worry that if i order both large, that one of them might be better suited to small...

35. Yes they come with the small bust by default (part of the doll) and you pay to ADD a large bust to your order

36. As kchan said, the order period is June 16th to 30th. They will confirm orders on the evening of July 7th. It will be "Main" and "Order" groups. (As per my translation.)
Then those who are in the "Main" order group, the payment period is July 9th. (They only get one day? *_* ) The time of delivery will be decided by lottery. However they are absolutely accepting orders. All people who wish to order Unoa will be allowed to do so.

A normal Lusis or Sist kit is 39,900yen, a Lusis or Sist kit with large bust part extra is 43,575yen. Irrespective of whether you get the large bust part or not, you can get one of each kit. (So you could get a Lusis with or without bust, and a Sist with or without bust. But not two Sists or two Lusises.)

The next pre-order will be the boys -- however it will be done when the production of the surplus stock to fill all the girls' 6th pre-order orders are finished, so at the moment absolutely nothing is decided. The only thing for certain is that they will be kits, not completed dolls. They absolutely will not answer any questions about this pre-order, so they request that you do not email them regarding it. When everything is decided, they will announce it on the site, so they ask for you to wait until that time. :)

Sorry for the quietude in the last month or so about doing translations like this, I've been quite sick so not on the forum much. :sweat I hope to continue to help out again now that I'm feeling better. :)

37. How exciting the pre-order is starting! More beautiful Unoas on Doa!

My brother who lives in Japan got a few optional pieces in the last lottery, and I received them last week.

Here is my new Lusis face on the right,-- I just finished her faceup. The Lusis on the left is sporting those cute little Unoa glasses.:aheartbea

38. Are the boy and girl faceplates interchangeable or do you have to mod them to fit the other body?

Could you put a boy face plate on a girl body without modding it?

I know I have seen both boy & girls as the other sex. Just not sure how much work it is for one.

I would love to have a l-bi girl!

39. yes they are completly interchangeable :)

40. Cassiel's post on page 64 said:

"A normal Lusis or Sist kit is 39,900yen, a Lusis or Sist kit with large bust part extra is 43,575yen. Irrespective of whether you get the large bust part or not, you can get one of each kit. 41. Yeah, it's really the preferred form of payment in Japan. :sweat When I lived over there and spent half my time buying bargains off Y!JA, I did 95% of my transactions through bank transfer. (And the other 5% were 'paruru' - post office money transfer - something I've never seen outside of Japan anyway.)

In regards to your earlier question about how long it'll take, btw -- yeah, the last pre-order took like 6+ months. But this time Alchemic Labo has been, well, kinda outsourced so it's not just Araki, and also they are making as many kits as they can in advance, so that as many people as possible will basically get their orders as soon as they pay. (Like, they pay on July 9th, then it gets sent out that same week.) However they say if they get more orders than they have kits prepared (which I think is a sure thing) then they will go ahead and start making kits to fill those remaining orders, and of course nobody knows how long this is going to take. But because a certain bulk of the orders will have been filled straight away, in theory it should be quicker than the 6+ months that previous pre-orders were taking.

However this is of course all theoretical since this is the first time they've done it this way, so who knows. :)

Also, I reckon that probably Japanese orders will get priority over International ones in regards to the orders that will be shipping immediately. They say it'll be done by lottery, but... :sweat

42. He's lucky in more ways than one, since he's at last getting some company in the form of my future Lusis.

Here he is stealing her glasses (sorry for the bad pic *_*):

I'm so excited about the preorder now, even though the sensible person in me wishes it was a few months later. I'm going to do the faceup on her bully face when I've not got so many exams on. I'm thinking of making her a redhead...

Edit: Enmi, I got my parts this early because I had someone in Japan order them, as Amanohara mentions in her post. I suspect most people who've got them are the same.

43. I'd rather they had actual lenses in them, but other than that they're great, and fit his head really well. The shape suits him, too. I just tried them on him for a laugh since I thought they were kinda girly glasses, but I like them on him :3.

Unoa's have *slightly* smaller heads, I believe, since I think they wear 6'' wigs (someone correct me if I'm wrong)? My MNF Shiwoo wears a 7'', and his face is slightly longer and larger than that of my bully faceplate. Her's seems more broad though. He's also got bigger eyes, his 14mms look a little too big in her.

44. I have a question. If you order a kit with the large bust plate do you also get the small bust plate with it or only the one plate? Thanks.

45. The kit only contains the small bust.
The large bust is an option you can choose which has an additional cost.
It is usually the only option you purchase along with the kit.

All other options are offered during another time.
The parts option has just passed.

46. Okay. Thanks. That's great that you can order the large bust option so you have both. Is it easy to change the bust plate or do you have to restring the whole doll?

47. ^ You will have to restring the whole doll. <__<;;

I hope I could get a sist when pre-roder rolls around... ;___;

48. Keep in mind the unoa dolls do NOT come strung they come in parts you have to string them together with the elastic included, So you can put on the default or the large bust if you order it. I found the stringing was not that hard. The back the feet where the back heel is and the top of the head at the front (back head not faceplate) come with mold TABS on. On my boy I ordered they were pretty large and required cutting off with a metal jewerly cutter and then sanding smooth. OR you can just sand with a really grainy sand paper to get the tab off and then switch to a fine grain to finish.

All this helps you bond to the doll as if feels like you had a hand in creating her :)

The face plate will have a very fine film of resin over the openings where the eye sockets are, this is easily removed by just poking them out with a dull thin object.

49. There is a little glue required - I used a two part epoxy as its nice and strong when set. It comes in a syring like holder when you push down there is two openings at the end that evenly distributes the two parts of the glue (which is transparent in color) so its like a perfect way to measure effortlessly. then you just mix it around with a stick of some kind such as a cue tip with the cotton removed. Not much is needed you apply only a thin layer where the two parts will join. On my boys I think there was only the upper balls to glue to the top of the legs. The way its designed the balls actually snap onto the top legs and so you could almost not use glue but they might get annoying and come apart, its the stringing tension that would hold them in place. So its best to glue them most people do I think. I found the best way to string is to take you time! lay out all the part in front of you forming a doll, to be sure you have the parts on the right sides and don't put anything on the wrong side of the doll. Each part is labeled with a L and R which is actually raised up in the resin as part of the mold. These are hidden on where you don't see them when strung.

The kit includes a long wire this you bend in half and use to put through the loops you form with the elastic. It is easier if you have another person with you as you string to hold the doll while you string the parts on there is some pulling involved and its easier if you have a person there holding firmly, but you can also just put the doll grasped between you legs :) I found resin to be very strong so no worries just be careful with the wire that you don't scratch the doll.

Instructions: the doll does come with instructions but they are written in japanese however the pictures tell you everything you need to know. Don't shorten the elastic by cutting it, best to do triming at the end when the doll is all strung if needed. As if you cut it too short you just messed up your stringing elastic.

50. :) its not really scary but I know how you feel ! I used to feel like that, my first unoa I sent to a friend to do. But when I got my boy kits I just decided after so many years of hearing people say how easy it was, it was time to just do it! The only hard part is getting the tension perfect. Just don't tie the knots too tight on the elastic then you can always go back and try again. The rest is really just going really slow and double checking as you go. For instance your ready to string the arm together its just like beads on a string no biggie. But you do want to think ok double check all part of the arm for L symbol.

You can do it! when you sand off the tabs on the back of the heels of course do that before you string the doll together, its easier to keep the sandpaper a little wet and the foot, I sat with a cup of water and just dipped it in quickly to soak the sanded part of the paper and I kept my foot wet too it just seems to move the sanding along and gives you a smoother finish as well it stops the dust you are removing the resin chunk from being inhaled. Also do the sanding outside !! resin is not good for you to inhale.

51. oh and its also best to use wet sandpaper and keep the doll paerts wet

52. I have two questions:
1) I have signed up with crescent shop. In the section of the profile page that says something like "special orders" I simply wrote "Unoa pre-order". Does this mean they will contact me when there is a pre order or do I still need to do something different?

2) I was wondering what is Quluts? I see that after the word Unoa at times. Is it a type of Unoa?

Thanks for any help.

53. Unfortunately I can't help you with #1, but for #2: Unoa Quluts is the full name of the Unoa dolls. :) It's written on Gentarou Araki's site. Same way that the Unoa's predescessor, the Unoss, was actually called the Andolrea Unoss. It's just that "Unoss" and "Unoa" are a lot quicker to say. ;)

(For the record, I dunno exactly where "Quluts" comes from so I dunno what the exact pronunciation is meant to be, but the way it's written in Japanese it's "kurusu". I'd pronounce it just 'kurus' without the 'u' on the end.. that's usually left out in such pronunciations. And the 'r' in the middle is really a cross between an 'l' and an 'r' as in all Japanese.. so 'kulus' is just as correct, really.)

54. I read in an interview with Araki about what the Quluts means: It's derived from Homonculus which is a created human. I think the translation of that interview is still on DOA somewhere. It was a fascinating read for anyone who's a fan of the old pervert's work. XD

55. i want a sist so bad, but boy does all this confuse me. i'll figure it out though.

one question for clarification - can you order the large breast part at the same time as the doll, or do you have to wait for the next opt. parts sale?

56. i believe the large boobies are the only option part available during this preorder. so you can get your sist wth the LMP, no problem. ;-)

57. Are the white unoas available during this preorder? Are they ever available during a preorder? If not how do they normally sell them?
