Apr 19, 2006

    2. Hi ^^
DIM mini girls can wear CP clothes. Don't worry ~~ DIM Mini wear most clothes~~
      THank you

    3. Has anyone ordered/recieved these dolls already, and if so, could you give a review of their quality? Especially any of the following issues:

      Are you happy with them?

What area(s) are you most satisfied with?

What area(s) are you unsatisfied with or wish were different?

How is the quality of the resin? (Light, heavy, shiny, matte, pale, dark, pinkish, yellowish, frail, durable, etc?)

      Poseablity of the sculpt?

      Faceup?

      Packaging?

How well-made is the doll, overall (quality of make, disregarding artistic quality of sculpt)?

      Compared to other dolls?

I've been uninterested in the doll thing for a while, after a brief period of "definitely" wanting a doll, but now I am thinking seriously about buying Odella or Marianne. I adore the sculpts, of course, but I would like to know about quality from those more experienced than me. ;)

Please reply if you have something to say about these dolls! (No, you needn't answer all of the questions, as that would...take a while. ^^;; But any input would help me greatly.)

    4. My two girls arrived today - had a bit of a standing problem - so I re-strung them and then wired the legs... now they stand really well. I am going to paint them tonight - so maybe tomorrow I will have some pictures.

They are a little bit taller than my Unoa - but a very similar body shape - and I am pretty sure they will fit the same clothing. The only MSD size shoes I already own are Leekeworld shoes.. all fit the girls perfectly. The will use an ordinary MSD size wig (whereas Unoa is smaller wig size). All in all.. I am very happy with them - I was a little unsure when they wouldnt stand.. the kicky legs were unreal (and yes I have had kicky leg Luts dolls) - but no way were these girls going to stand.. but now thats all fixed I am well pleased.
And as a silly little aside.. the boxes they come in.. so far the best I have seen in the BJD world.. VERY sturdy.. and attractive.... yeah I know that doesnt make a doll.. but presentation of your art work also shows the dedication to your work etc.

    5. Well.. I was about to give up on these girls! Spent last night painting them.. and trying to fix their very bad kicky legs and posing problems.. spent all day today and was getting a wee bit frustrated... took the wiring out - (it was a little too heavy a guage for these girls - but it was all I had- but it prevented them from sitting) re-strung them again and sueded them.
NOW they are well behaved - they also have the Unoa torso problem with sitting - but worse. Sueding the upper torso fixed that easily.
So I have had enough of them at the minute.. so proper pictures will be taken tomorrow . I have a few bad snaps - as I could not be bother getting out the lights and the tripod..
Also - no upper eyelashes - so they stare. I havent really got any of the right size eyes and very short of MSD size wigs - so these are just very temporary.

    6. I will try and get some more photos posted soon. I have been busy with some other things that have taken all my time. Along with the fact the eyelashes havent arrived (mixup with shipping/order etc) and I dont ahve the right wigs for them yet - so I was waiting till they looked a little more presentable..LOL..
I have a Mini Fee Soo head - I can take some comparison shots with that too if you like. But definitely the smaller Unoa wig wont fit - the one I made.. becasue it fits Unoa perfectly and I dont make them with "stretch".. maybe a factory one with a stretch cap MIGHT fit. But I do have a few factory MSD size wigs - and they fit perfectly. So I would say ordinary MSD wigs for them would be the best bet.
I also have very few MSD shoes/boots. But the Leekeworld MSD shoes I have are a good fit - the Minour World boots are a little roomy - but you would get away with them.
They have been sitting around for a week now - and standing is no longer a problem after sueding.
I also changed out Marianne's eyes to the next size up - and I think they look better. But once again - I dont have a lot of choices here with MSD size stuff.. so they are using what I already have - no something specifically chosen for them.
The standing problem.. I just think the inside of the resin (in the joints etc) is just so slick - there is nothing to "grab" when posing.. so the sueding did a good job - far better than wiring (I took that out). Although they dont appear to be pre-sanded.. the seam lines are very faint.. I will probably still do a final sand when I get around to coating/blushing the bodies.
So all in all.. I AM pleased with them.
I also have a feeling it was probably my photos that made the arm socket look a little "off".... BTW the arms hold poses well.. and I didnt touch them.

    7. My Marianne came Wednesday and I'm very very happy with her :) She's gorgeous, came well packaged and the wig she came with is really nice.

She has the kicky legs like Meredith was talking about, I haven't been able to get her to stand up in bare feet, but I was able to when she was wearing boots. The magnets in her headcap are pretty weak too. But those are both minor complaints and haven't diminished my joy at all :)

It'll probably be awhile before I can post any pics though. (my camera's not digital)

    8. Caroline is really kicky (Dim Marianne). Once I read some more about sueding I'll probably do that to all of her joints. I posted some pictures of her here

    9. The design of D.I.M Mini body's shape of legs are intended to be more natural and emphatic on beauty line. They are beautifully curved so the knees can be bended sometims easily. There is no problem with standing function(including one foot )

Hello ^^ I hope this can help people.

    10. She fits the same clothes as Unoa (I have Unoa and both DiM minis) and Mini Fee's (I have a head - but no body yet - but I beleive they are close enough the same to share clothes). The resin is nice - but I found sueding her ankles, knees, hips and waist made her hold a pose a lot better.
Other child body mini's - clothes wont fit both - I have Volks Mini and Angel Region (had a DOD - but no longer).

I am very happy with my girls - now I have the posing fixed.

    11. Same i have U-noa and Odelia and they fit .
today i put on Odelia a MSD outfit, it's too large but not so bad .

So probably the must easy to get is Mini fee's outfits i think it's ok or teen trend outfits from Mattel.

    12. all i can say to you, because a friend ask me too is the neck is 7.5cm so i think ok.

the color is lighter than Volks normal skin , rather U-noa , more peachy.

And i got my Odelia today, ^_________^

      but for standing her, ><

    13. Odelia arrived here today!! She is absolutely adorable! That being said....she has the awful "kicking" leg issue & one of the "s" hooks in her wrist broke (ack!! The metal they are made out of is waaay to soft)...so, it looks like I'll be heading out to get new, stronger ones tomorrow...*sigh*...

    14. Thanks!

Here are a couple of newer pics of her in another wig that I made :-)

    15. she takes a 7/8 wig and wears MSD clothes....be prepared to wire her..she has the kickiest legs..and her arms will probably need to be tightened...at least mine did.. I still can't get mine to stand as well as I would like, she has one leg that twists inward and her feet hit the bottom of the legs, making it nearly impossible for the feet to stand flat..I have sanded them but the need more... and she has problems sitting up as there is no indentations in the upper thighs to make room for the torso...like other bjd's do....
I am a little disappointed with the overall sculpt..the hands, feet and collarbones are not well defined..but she does have a large bust for a msd. and she has a nice face.

just thought I would let you know what you were in for...on hindsight..I wouldn't have bought her..*sigh*

    16. Hmm I might have to disagree with the 6-7 wig size. I have Odelia, a DoC Bee-A, and a Unoa, and she has the biggest head of all of them by far. She definitely can't wear my unoa wigs, and shares the DoC wigs pretty well, closer to a 7-8...I'm sure some 6-7 wigs would fit because wig sizes aren't always consistent, but I'd err on the side of 7-8.

My msd shoes are a bit big, but they don't go falling off or anything so it doesn't bother me.

I bought my Odelia from Sunrise Dolls, shipping was only $11 and she arrived in 4 days! I would highly recommend them=) I actually bought her to replace my Bee-a's body, the resin match is uncanny. It's a very pale, slightly pink resin. She makes my sist look almost green, because of sist's ivory tones. I had to sand the neck a lot to get the head to fit properly, but other than that it's a perfect body for her. I really like it because it has a similar curvy quality as the unoa, but not as tiny and narrow.

I think she's a perfect size, she was able to get into my Mio Unoa jeans (notoriously well fitted), but is big enough to fill out my msd clothes for the most part. Some msd clothes probably won't look right, because of the huge bazonga's *Lol*

    17. So the wigsize is 7/8 and the shoesize is just MSD?

I want to buy her some Mary Janes and a brown or at least a natural color wig, because I like that more.

    18. the wire in the wrists will b..break haven't had it happen yet, but the wire is so soft and I read on here that someone cracked a hand because the wire broke. Not sure what kind of wire it is but its cheap

    19. Yeah that was me.....The wire s-hooks are just very soft and because the doll was re-strung so tightly, as I pulled her hand down it snapped the s-hook and shot up her arm....( I'm asuming the stress cracked her hand, although it isn't very noticable)
Well, I've just ordered some more s-hooks from Leekeworld( in the hope they'll fit),but if they don't I have used some covered garden wire, and that's holding up very well, and I've also wired her.....
The thing is I think she was re-strung really weirdly, because the elastic for the legs goes just below the thigh part then she was strung to the feet with actual STRING
( anyone ever seen stringing like this before)?Anyway, I replaced the string on her 'kicky' leg with thinner elastic, and it seems to have stopped the leg kicking....

    21. The US-07 should be fine (maybe a tad wide). I don't know about the other style. I have bought shoes from Ajumapama and the quality is excellent, but the sizes vary a lot. You should email Karin for measurements before buying.

These shoes from eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/Doll-Shoes-58s-...QihZ007QQcategoryZ343QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem should be great as they are custom made for Sharmin type narrower feet. Contact the seller and give her the measurement of your doll's foot (length and width) and she will help you find the best fit.

I'm looking at getting an Odelia or Marianne too so I'm watching this thread with interest.;)

    22. [IMG]

    23. Tigg--You might first just try sueding her which can be done without unstringing. If you do an advanced search for threads with "sueding" in the workshop section, you will find loads of advice. It has solved the problem for most of my group, though I am considering wiring one or two of them to improve their stability. Unlike most people, I do leave some of them standing without support--a cardinal sin.

    24. Yep, and just stick some wire in her arms and legs, that'll help too, and you don't have to restring for that either...

    25. These aren't the best pictures but that's because it's here 8.42 PM and it is getting dark, but you can see my problem (I hope).

      I "marked" the eyebrow-missing-part.

      I am really stupid, ain't I. . .

    26. Hmmnn you need to get the wire in there then...:) ( Just get PVC coated wire( not too dark), and cut a length and stick it up her arms and legs). There is a picture tutorial on here somewhere...

    27. I have Odelia and Marianne. the ones they come with are 7/8 but if you get JPop's most excellent stretchy cap ones, I've found I like the look of her 6/7's. they fit on more tightly and don't slither around. but if it's not a stretch cap wig, they need a 7/8.

      :)

    28. Is there is difference in Odelia's eyes and Marianne's? I can see the mouth difference, but the stock photo's are more difficult to see the eyes. Any help would be welcomed!

    29. Well from a pink fairy:
      She's now a punk:
Minx, just loves changing her look, and I think Odelia's are very versatile dolls!

    30. I recieved my Marianne, the joints definately are too slick, legs don't want to stand, the legs keep bending(the seller said that shes strung very tight so I will do a restring and sueding soon as the pliver I ordered arrives and see if this fixes it).
So far I just can't seem to get attatched to her yet, maybe I need to dress her and remove the seam lines (they are more prominent than I expected)

Her face is very pretty, I like the mouth better than the way it looks in the company pics. Replaced eyes help too, the default eyes lack depth. The skin tone is beautifully pale, but still pinkish.

The wig is awesome, I love it, its very good quality and not got the modacrylic shine that I hate.

    31. I have wired my Ophelia but she still doesn't wants to stand properly.
I hate this! What do I have to do?

    32. Good bye kicky! I sueded her joints from the waist down. She now stands beautifully on her own with no stand or wiring, the body is well balanced to stand.

(watchout the foot S hooks are sharp, one bit me)

    33. I don't know about the bigger girls, but I just received Marigold (11 inches)and her legs curl up terribly. They won't straighten at all. I am not sure sueding will help her, I think I have to wire her. She is adorably cute, though.
      Deborah

    34. I too would love to know more about sueding? I just read someone putting a thin coat of hot glue to the joints is this a form of sueding? Thanks!

    35. I had to wire Odelia AND Marianne. they were the kickiest dolls I have ever had. but wired, they're fine-- and wiring is really easy to do.
      vicki

    36. Perils legs are terribly kicky, but some restringing, sueding and wiring has made a bug differance ^_^

    37. A friend of mine did a re-stringing tutorial on a Marianne, and the problem we found when he did it was that her thighs (I think) were switched! Each thigh was on the wrong side! I don't know if that's the way they all are or what, but once he fix that, she was fine! I don't know though, you'll have to check it out for yourself...

    38. Sueding is when you take pieces of thin suede leather and glue it inside the joints (I used pilver and tacky glue, its not permanent but works great). I unstrung her lower half so I could suede the inside of the entire joint then I put the original stringing back in when the glue dried.

There is good info in the workshop section on sueding and wiring:

    39. I don't know resin well but would worry about it being discolor or be damaged by the heat, those glue guns can get really hot.

    40. My Marianne is here! Yay! She has one really good leg, but the other is very kicky and won't straighten out without kicking back. I think if that leg is played with more then it will loosen up some and eventually stand. She sits ok, but not very straight.

Her arms don't pose as well as I would like because they are much more loose. She can hold her arms up well, but not inbetween being straight up and straight down.

The positives are she's gorgeous! I don't even think she needs eyelashes and her wig is feather soft!

I think if she was just strung right, then she'd be perfect. I need to learn how to string a doll, but I wouldn't even try it on her anytime soon ;)

    41. you should try wire-ing... look a few posts back someone posted a topic with workshops and toturials about wire-ing and restringing...(videos on youtube!)
Helped me gain confident with it.
But i heared a rumour about ther S hooks being kinda weak, but as far as i know that was from theyr old factory products...they changed factory's...
But thats only what i heared.

btw i can buy s hooks at my local tool store XD from size xxxs to MEGA GIANT!

    42. the S-hooks on the feet are kind of thin (and sharp ouch) would not be a bad idea to replace. The arms on my doll are loose too. They would benefit from a more firmer, stronger stringing cord, the one in there is too stretchy and the weight of the arms stretches it out too much. (both cheap and easy to fix, maybe $2.00 in supplies)

    43. Check out this link: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=995015&postcount=73 to see a comparison of a Unoa to Odelia. They are quite similar in body shape, so most clothes made for a large-bust Unoa should fit her close enough. Good luck! :daisy

      Lindsay

    44. Thanks very much!! I was hoping that was right...

It's amazing how much there is yet to learn even following so many hours of reading, looking and working on them !!

    45. I own a Marianne and she is sooo beautiful. I've only had her for a few weeks and i'm learning that she is skinner then the typical MSD. She does fit great in tops and skirts from F2BM (friends to be made) clothes. Cheap, too!

I just ordered a pair of boots for a smaller MSD foot. most of the MSD shoes I see are for 7cm feet and my Marianne had a 5.8cm foot so I think those would be too big.

    46. Actually more specifically, i'm wondering about the cat ears they come with. In the near future i'll be making a character who is an anthro and she has cat ears. While i was planning on making the ears out of sculpy, i was wondering how DIM Odellia/marianne's ears attach to the head. do they use the typical peg and hole? I was thinking of useing earth magnets as to not harm the head of the soon to be dolls head. :)

Any help would be appreciated, as well as pics to see what they look like. :) because if they work with magnets or something i might be interested in purchasing them. So yeah...give me a shout out! :D

    47. You wont believe this, but they are flat on the bottom. You are supposed to glue them to a wig. They are a nice shape though. I will have to try to find another way to attach them, so I can use them on different wigs.

    48. I glued mine to a wig, but someone posted once about gluing them to a hair clip that way you could put them in different wigs.

    49. Yeah, I glued mine to a really crappy wig I made...:

    50. The ears are absolutely adorable! I do hate that you can't attach them through the wigs though. I need to find the perfect wig to glue them on to ;)

    51. Yeah, but if you use tacky glue, they should come off easy enough to re-use;)

    52. Has anyone tried the heads on a MSD volks body? or any other bodies that look great?

    53. I wired my Odelia, I sueded my Odelia I played with her. . .
Why can't she still stand normally??

    54. Ummmnn don't know what else to suggest:| .....Mine has a gammy leg anyway, but I love her that way....( she still can stand on her own though at a push( not literally)):)

    55. Somebody recommended me to put another wire in her legs but I'm afraid she'll have scratches or something.

    56. This is my girl Evey

I painted her to keep the same look, but i wanted a blue color to her, actually am going to touch it up and gloss it today. I agree on those hooks in her hand, I was trying to find one small enough in town, but its kinda impossible - XD i'll just order some when i get rainy.

I was thinking about ordering her a different body because i just dont play with her like i do the others, but maybe its just because i need to have her restrung and wired. I'll give that a try and then decide.

That girl has hips i tell you. Acctually shes going to have two dresses because shes the only one i've made anything for XD. I did though actually get those grey teen trend shoes on her that came with that blue dress.
