I've been sculpting a new doll lately. Actually I've started before summer I think. Long time ago. Now it is sort of nearer the end... and that's how she looks. (I hope I'm doing this attachment thing the right way.) It's not finished yet but I hope it will be soon. Still deciding what size she should be... I'm very much in two minds about everything :P (I'm choosing between 19cm and 30cm. It will also depend on the price, but I cannot calculate that just yet) I'm afraid she's not very original, I've seen quite a lot of large hip dolls but I drew this one ages ago, so I need to get it out of my system. And then make something completely different from this one. (I have it planned already but I want to finish this one first) Tell me what you think! And thanks for looking!
When you sculpt a doll digitally, do you then sculpt it in clay, or do you have it printed in 3D? like from a .stl file? If you have it printed, do you then have to hollow it all out? Your doll has such a sweet face! Which 3D computer graphic software are you using? I have tried to learn Blender without too much success. I hope you will continue posting your progress!
Hijacking: when you 3d print something, it's usually printed hollow to cut down cost because it is still very, very pricey (charged by hours it take to print or the volume of material, sometimes also by number of parts and intricacy). Have you tried other programs? Blender and Maya didn't work so well for me but zbrush clicked nearly instantly so that's what I use now. Wilga: Her face is really cute. The apple of her cheek is a bit forward, though, esp from the side view. Since you have her as a digital sculpt, have you considered animating her (a dance!) or posing her? I think it'd be cute.
greymalkin, I send the doll to be printed as .stl file and as penguu said it's cheaper to print hollow parts and anyway, you'll need them hollow so you can string the doll... I use Blender. I remember that the first I tried to learn it, it was horrible and I didn't like it at all, but then some months (many months) later I tried again and now that's what I'm using. :P Lot's of people are using Zbrush though, so maybe I should give it a try! penguu, I thought her cheek was too straight so I made it a bit rounder and then a bit more round and I guess I ended up overdoing it!!! I think I still have to wait a few days to see what you mean, my brain is still stuck with the old problem. No animation, it's too much work! I do pose her a little bit to see how the joints move but I'm always afraid I won't be able to put her back the right way. Thanks for the comments, her face gave me a lot of work (there were like five versions of the face floating one on top of the other, very creepy)!
I love her!! Her face is just bursting with character - amazing! And although there are many big-hip dolls out there, I think you've added your own twist to this one. I especially like how her arms fall behind her back - will she be able to do that? It's really cute. Beautiful work! *fan* )
aneemal, her arms are falling inside her! Maybe when she's printed she'll be able to hold them behind her back in a similar way, I'm crossing my fingers. Morgan, Thanks! Now the 19cm version is winning. :P
Some updates: she's finally here in real world! About 19cm tall. She can stand and sit and move her head and I'm really happy with her personality ;P (the clothes are going to be a nightmare though) standing properly! por Orange tea dolls, en Flickr Mmmm.... por Orange tea dolls, en Flickr Panties are red por Orange tea dolls, en Flickr Her fingers are very small and thin, I'm not sure you can see it in this photo or maybe I should take another one with the hands next to a ruler or something... New doll por Orange tea dolls, en Flickr I was wondering if it's possible to make them in resin or are they too thin for that? what do you think?
she is lovely I should think the hands would be fine.. fairlyland manage realpuki hands (full doll is under 10cm and their hands are very very tiny). are you planing on casting her yourself or getting her cast by a company? (I did all my lil 3d prints with blender too ) (edit:spelling =p)
