The boy body is quite a bit smaller and slimmer then the SD13 body. His measurements are very close to that of a regular SD girl....so if you've ever noticed how much smaller an SD girl is next to a SD13 boy, well that's how much smaller the SD boy body is as well. The old skin boy body used to have posing issues, but it has been improved with the new pure skin boy body.
I'm having trouble finding the answers to all my questions Sorry for posting an annoying questions thread, but I know you all can help! I'm sort of a total Volks n00b still, even though they're the first dolls I got into >.< ... and I keep getting so confused. What exactly is the size difference between an SD and SD13? Is the SD13 basically a "long leg" version of SD10; meaning there's not a whole lot of difference? Also, can an SD13 head fit on an SD10 body without looking wierd? Are Volks pureskin SD10 dolls taller than their older counterparts? I saw a few pictures where that seemed to be the case... It seems like most Korean companies make SD13 sized dolls, but are there any who have slightly shorter, maybe even a couple of centimeters shorter than SD10, without being SDC or MSD? Sorry again, I feel like a n00b!
Hi AngelMecha! Let's see, if you go to www.denofangels.com and click on the FAQ, Aimee's got lots of good info as to the differences in SD vs SD13. There is also a [thread=137992]measurements thread[/thread] on this board . SD13 seems to be a little more grown-up than SD, in that the girls are suppose to have larger busts and whatnot. As for the longer legs, it's only with specific boys and if you order that through FCS. That is, SD13 boys like Isao Nanjou. More SD13 boys have the regular legs. I can tell you that CP Luts Woosoo's legs are about the same length as Isao's. If you check the FAQs, there is more detailed info there about sizes, plus fun body comparison photos between different companies dolls (I still can't get over how different and taller Bermann is)
Well, SD13 are sculpted to look older than SD. As their name suggests, SD13 are meant to look like teenagers, whereas SD look younger, closer to nine or ten. Some SD have the jointed torso (like Liz or the FCS jointed torso options) like SD13. If you want a younger-looking doll, go with an SD. If you want an older-looking doll, you'd probably want to go with an SD13 instead. Karin's comparison photos show the differences in body sculpt and style.
Not quite. With the girls, there is also bigger SD13 bust size and a very little extra arm length / leg length (longer on SD13), and SD13 girls have different "more refined" hands, though SD & SD13 girl hands and feet can be interchanged. SD13 and SD girls have same width necks, too. SD boys and girls boys use same hands and feet. SD13 boys are clearly taller than SD boys and have bigger feet and hands (and necks).
I know... ::stares at Abacus:: You have a cute body. x3 Abacus: I have a SD10. It's possibility... is... special. x3 In that genre, SD13 is best. But I like the nonjointed look of SD10, so I wanted at least one of my boys to have it. The rest will probably have SD13 though. His hands are bloated and unelegant. That's sad to me. I'm going to tackle that problem pretty soon. If you want pictures of the SD10 body, I'd be happy to take them. Abacus: Not happening. You know you like it. Abacus: No! ::shoves him under a pillow:: He'd be happy to whore his body. (^_^)
I have been seeing clothes that fit '9 doll' and have no idea what size doll that is and can't seem to find any information on this. Can anyone clue me in? Thanks!
SD9 = SD10 = standard SD I think "SD9" and "SD10" are typically used interchangeably - don't think Volks ever put a specific age on their standard line - but there are some differences between old SD bodies and the newer pureskin ones.
Since I have an SD13 I had better not get an outfit sized for a SD9 afterall. Too bad I really liked it.
Actually, SD13 and SD9/10 are pretty similar in size. Outfits should be interchangable unless they are really fitted  Good luck! Sarah
Just watch out for the waists on SD10... I've gotten jeans and pants made for SD10 before, and they were huge on my SD13 girl's waist. =~_~=;
Is it just Anais in particular or all new pureskin SD girls? I would assume that they didn't make a body specifically for her and instead "shrunk" the standard SD girl size in general. It seems like something they would do to make the jump from SD to SD13 more realistic. But yes, the smaller size is why some people call her "SD9", although the blanket term for both "SD9" and "SD10" is just "SD", as opposed to SD13, MSD, SDC, Yo-SD, ect. It'd be interesting to see if there are indeed any differences between the Anais body and, say, the pureskin Mimi body.
The fit is very similar, except with some longsleeve tops and fitted pants, they can wind up a bit short on an SD13 if the garment is sized for SD10. It's not terribly noticeable, but it does look a little odd if the doll's arms are hanging straight down, and the pants are paired with ankle-height shoes. Looks like she had a growth spurt and couldn't buy a new wardrobe. XD
The pureskin standard body is shorter than the old standard body mostly due to the absence of the old ankle ball, I think. I think it's ironic that my stately Lady Silvie is shorter than my standard Nono.
hi.. sorry if this was aked before, but never found the thread... i'd like to know whats the difference between SD, SD10 and SD13? (you'd know i'm a newbie for SDs^^) i was browsing for some outfit, and i think the labels are confusing me. one shop have 2 diff categories for SDs outfit: for SD/SD13 only, for SD13 only and another shop is: for SD13/SD10 only, for SD13 only. i somehow maybe got the idea that SD13 and typical SDs can share wardrobes, so does SD13 and SD10, but not SD10 and typical SD?? *sputter* help.
SDs and SD10 are the same things ^.^ some people call them SDs or SD10. SD13 girl bodies are more mature, bigger breasts, smaller waist, and bigger hips. while SDs are more childlike small breast and not much of a figure. some outfits may fit both, like for a SD13 the outfit might be more fitting but on a SD it might be loser. also SD13s are 1 1/2 inch taller. and with shoes they both have the same feet but you can get optional feet of them which is 'high heeled' and can only be fit into a 'high heeled' shoe. i think SD13s come with the 'high heeled' feet. for the boys, i think they are taller and broader (i only have a SD boy and not a SD13 boy) i'm not sure about the feet for the boys. (dont worry! we all start out as newbies)
SD13 girls no longer come with high-heeled feet; I think that was an oldskin feature, and the new pureskin bodied girls come with flat feet. I think one can only order high-heeled feet through FCS (Full Choice System doll purchase), not buy them in stores, but I don't know for sure. The high-heeled feet are not for sale on the Volks websites, although tabi feet (for thong sandals) are. SD girls have the same height torsos as SD13 girls, but their legs and arms are shorter. The necks are the same, so SD and SD13 girl heads are interchangeable. The feet are the same, and SD boy feet are the same as well - SD13 boy feet are larger, however. Except for certain limited SD models, SD (boy or girl) waists are not jointed like the SD13s. (Can one get a jointed body or "swarrico" (cute sitting) legs through FCS? This I don't know either.) SD girl waists are actually a bit wider (yes!) than SD13 girl waists, and their breasts are smaller (less curvy, more childlike torso.) A tight skirt closure on an SD13 girl may be too tight to fit on an SD girl.
You cannot purchase pureskin high heel feet outside FCS, and you cannot order the Suwarrico body for SD size dolls at all (for now).
Thanks for the clarification, I've been wondering about those differences and similarities for a while now.
THANKS! though now it feels like its annoying to look at outfits and wonder if it fits^^. it'd be helpful if anyone has a comparison pics but its okay. im thinking of getting an SD from Dollmore, and they do have breast, would they be considered as a 10 or 13 I wonder? i guess anyone who owns lilis liv or orlando ray can answer
Actually, only Volks dolls are officially SD or SD13, so a Dollmore doll is not either one. The exact sizing, proportions, and terminology vary widely from one company to another. I don't know much about Dollmore, but you'll need to find comparison pictures of the specific body your doll will be with the standards (SD and SD13) to actually know what will fit. It's all very complicated, really, but it's great that you're here seeking answers! Without DoA, I would have been sunk when I got my girl--she's a full 5cm shorter and almost as much smaller in the waist compared to a standard SD!
Can a SD girl wear SD13 sized shoes? And is it neccesary to have high heeled feet to wear shoes with heels? Obviously for standing but in a sitting pose can you put the heeled shoes on a flat regular foot?
SD and SD13 girls have the same feet, unless you have an oldskin SD13 wich came with high heel feet, a FCS SD13 with high heeled feet, or have purchased HH feet separately through YJ. And most so called SD13 shoes are perfectly wearable for ordinary, flat feet. Very few HH shoes have actual curved soles! When it comes to SD/SD13 girls and SD13 boys however, then there's a real difference in size.
Since we're on the topic of feet, I have a question...I just bought an oldskin sd13 body from the marketplace, and she has sd length legs and feet with the old-type ball ankles. I wanted to give her longer legs, so I had my friend buy her some from the Volks LA store....I know pureskin sd and sd13 feet are interchangable, but is it the same with oldskin feet?
I'd stay away from shoes with a distinctly curved sole - you know, sort of S-shaped. Most high heels have a sole with more of a straigh slope than a curve - more of a / than an S - and those are fine on SD feet! Oldskin SD and SD13 feet ought to be interchangable too, Junjun!
Hi!! I hope somebody can help me! >_< I would like to see the differences between sd13 and sd10 boys volks bodies >_<
Not the greatest, but: Oldskin SD13 boy versus oldskin SD10 boy: http://www.denofangels.com/comparisons/volks/sd13nsdboys.jpg http://www.denofangels.com/comparisons/volks/sd13nsdboys2.jpg Pureskin SD13 boy (long legs) versus pureskin SD10 boy (short legs): http://www.denofangels.com/comparisons/volks/skintones.jpg
What is the difference between an SD size and a SD13 size? I am trying to buy some shoes for my girl but I don't know if they will fit since I can't find any measurements anywhere on the Volks site (I assume it's where the term comes from). According to my doll's manufactor's site, her foot size is 7cm long. Will she fit a SD13 shoe?
It will depend on the specific foot and shoe, and whether it's for boys or girls. Volks has 2 sizes for the SD10 foot, and one for the SD13 girl. Shoes styled specifically for SD13 girls tend to have high heels and a very arched sole. If it's a looser fitting shoe, the flatter SD10 feet will probably fit, but tight shoes will not. My SD10s have feet of 6cm and 6 1/2cm. Shoe soles need to be a few mm longer than the actual foot to allow for dimension.
SD's have a ten-year-old body, while SD13's have a 13-year-old-body (at least that's what someone told me).
SD boys, SD girls, and SD13 girls (at least in pureskin, I don't know how oldskin compares) all have the same size feet. The SD13B shoes you see there are for SD13 boys, which have much larger feet. If the SD/13 feet are indeed 6.5cm like the above posters have said (I haven't measured my Yugiri's feet) and your girl's feet are 7cm, it would probably depend on the cut of the individual shoe whether or not it would fit her feet. Your best bet would probably be to find someone with the exact shoe you'd like and ask them to measure it for you, to better determine if it would fit or not. Sorry I can't help much.
Thanks everyone! The shoe in question is the Dollheart shoe here: http://www.bjdollarama.com/product_p/dollheart_ls-46remake.htm and my girl, Buddy Doll April, actually isn't home yet. But if you all say the foot size of an SD13 girl is 6.5cm then I am afraid the shoe will not fit Since it is a pointed toe and has an arched sole, I am too afraid to order the shoe with all that against me.
From the FAQ button in the blue bar near the top of DoA!: Standard Super Dollfie (SD) come assembled with a non-jointed waist, or can be put together from parts with an optional jointed waist and several optional heads, arms, legs, hands and feet. They are said to represent children about ten years of age. Super Dollfie 13 (SD13) have slightly more grown-up looking faces, thinner waists, jointed torsos, and the girls have larger busts, like a 13 year old child. Carolyn
Like Carolyn said, SD13 bodies are slightly more developed than SD bodies. SD13 bodies are about 2cm taller also if I'm correct? The SD13 hands and feet are slightly different too.
Hmmmm . . . do you mean the suwarikko SD10 girl body? No, it doesn't approximate the SD13 body except in having a jointed torso; it's definitely SD10 size. But that may not be what you're asking--
is it me or do SDs look nothing like 10 year olds...and ive never seen a 13 year old who looks like an SD13 O.O thats pretty interesting they say that
I agree there. I think the SDs look kinda they are in their mid-teens with a baby face and SD13s look also like slightly more mature teens face and body wise.
The height difference between a SD girl and a SD13 girl is all in the legs. Re: different hands and feet - that is only true for SD13 boys.
No; "SD10" and "SD13" refer to Volks bodies. Older CH girl bodies are quite a bit slimmer and a little shorter than both SD10 and SD13.
Any body with the acronym "SD" is uniquely Volks. Thus the answer to your question is that both the chepest and most expensive maker of SD bodies is...Volks! If you intend to ask for a maker of SD-sized body, this isn't the thread for it. I'm sure there are threads for it if you have a look around.
Great information here, it has been very helpful to me. I hadn't even noticed the jointed torso on the SD13 (DUH!). Now I know why there is such a price difference between SD and SD13. I wonder if someone could tell me what range of motion this joint has. Does this allow the body to twist from side to side, or bend up and down? I am considering a Volks for my first doll and trying to decide which one would be my best choice.
The torso joint twists a bit right to left, and bends a bit up and down. It isn't a huge range of motion - a SD13 can't touch her toes or anything! - but that slight motion is really useful for more naturalistic posing. I now own all three pureskin Volks bodies - SD13, SD swarrico and SD non-jointed, and I certainly miss the joint in the non-jointed body...
Thanks so much for your help Quiet Queen. So I guess I should be looking at the SD13. Now that raises 2 other questions for me. 1. the standard models are listed with large breasts - are these natural looking for a teenager or are they voluptuous! 2. are all of the pureskin (new) UV protected or is it just the SD13 Elena and Yori that have it?
The SD13 "large breasts" do not look super-voluptuous, especially when the doll is dressed. I think they are very youthful looking. I don't have any nude pics handy, but here's my SD13 Mimi wearing knits and a bikini... and here are both my Volks girls. Linda S. galatia9
Oh they look just darling...and perfectly modest! Thank you so much Linda for taking the time to post those pictures, thay really did resolve my question. This will be my first purchase and I am still having sticker shock issues!....but I keep thinking since I am spending a lot regardless, I am trying to be sure I make a good decision. Lynn G.
The SD13 L-bust is large - if you are 13 years old! If your girl is going to be older than that it is a modest busom. And Volks sculpts such nicely shaped breasts...
I tried searching but I SUCK at using the search function So I'm sorry if this is a dupe. I know it's an awfully noobish and probably pretty moronic question, but I've always wondered: What the heck is the difference between 'SD' size and 'SD13' size I've been trying to look for clothes for my new SD girl and I'm bamboozled by the concept of SD/SD13 - how do I know if they'll fit her? Most people just seem to assume people know the difference so don't list measurements Can anyone help? Once more, I'm sorry if this is a duplicate topic.
SD/SD13 are Volks body types. SD refers to the SD10 Volks body type which has a smaller bust and is about 1-2cm shorter than the SD13 which is more mature in proportions. If you are looking at non-Volks dolls, SD refers to a doll around the 60cm size range and you will need to look at a companies specific dolls to figure out what size is what, but no one but Volks uses the SD/SD13 as labels for their bodies. Wanted to add when buying clothes from Volks, it will say if it fits both SD/SD13 or just SD13. The SD13 Volks boys are a bit broader so they do not fit the SD boy clothes as well. For girls, SD10/SD/SD13 should fit as long as it is a Volks body. Some dolls that are called SD size from other companies have much larger breast or slimmer waist and thus you will need to find out the sizes for that specific company (Elfdoll is an example of a SD sized doll that will NOT fit in most clothes for SD girls because of the larger bust).
You might be able to imagine the size better by going onto the stickies at the top of this forum which have quite a lot of information of various doll company's bjd size. If you buying clothes that fit SD/SD13 might get you a better idea on how they fit on your dolls. Here is the link http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137992
Ah, sorry NabeeRain - I should clarify. I know about Volks etc, but sometimes when I browse the Marketplace people label their outfits as "SD Size" or "SD13 Size" and I wasn't sure what the difference was, if there was any. I understand no other companies use these terms for their clothing, but obviously users do as it's (probably) fairly common knowledge for people who don't have brains the size of a grain of sand like I do So basically the SD13 size (generally) have a larger bust on girls, right? Well, my mini girl has a bigger bust than her older sister (no kidding!) so I think she's most likely SD size. Thanks for the advice, both of you ^__^ That's really helpful ETA: Oh yeah, and when I said "my new SD girl" I wasn't thinking and I meant to say "my new SD-size girl" - sorry, that's probably where things got confused. I'm so dumb
