What's the difference between Premier and ladoll? they were both the same price at Michaels.. So whats the difference?
I cannot remember what is the difference between Premier and La Doll on top of my head but many artists use them in a 1:1 ratio to make premix, which is a much stronger air dry clay than premier and la doll as a separate entity. Hannie Sarris came up with this formula and it is still available for sale online as premix but since she passed away I only see it on clay alley. If you can buy them separately I would suggest it to mix it yourself and see how it works out for you. I like it a lot personally. I hope this helps!
Premiere is whiter, lighter, stronger and softer than La Doll. It has been described as having the texture of cream cheese. La Doll is stiffer, more the texture of pottery clay, so many people prefer it for sculpting. Mixing them together gives you the best of both worlds, or you can use Premiere for the body and La Doll for the face. They bond to each other readily, wet or dry.
LaDoll and Premier are Air-Dry clays. When you mix the two clays together, to obtain Premix, how do you keep them from drying out until you can use them? Do you place the Premix in a Tupperware container? Do you have to place something damp in the container as well, to keep the Premix from drying out? If you do not use the Premix that is in the container for several days, or weeks, does it start to harden on the surface?
KW: I think like the other air dry clays you put it in an airtight plastic bag and suck out all the air in the bag away. I did put it in a tupperware container before and that works sometimes unless you are in a hot environment. Then there is no real guarantee. I think if you keep it in a cool dark place it should last a while, months even, unless you got mold in it. I still have a bag of la doll I got last year that is moist and workable sealed in a bag without mold.
I keep my wet clay in one of those locknlock glass containers that are airtight. I had some premier and ladoll in one for like a year before using it again and it was fine.
I store it in a heavy (freezer weight) plastic ziplock bag, with all the air squished out. It keeps for many months.
