Thanks kurogane! Im really curious about his eyes.

I know wigs can be tricky. If the wig isn't just right, the whole look of the doll can appear off. I've had dolls I couldn't bond with until I found the right wig for them.

No, Alice's Collection was not offering her in a fullset. But I did get her with a face-up. Actually, I already have her clothes and wig waiting for her. I'm going to call her Darla, and she's going to be another Chibi vampire added to my YOSD-sized Buffyverse. (I'm having so much fun building my little Sunnydale army of tinies.)

 

Huzza! I got a shipping notice yesterday! My little Xia Ruo is on the way!

Wow! That was quick! It's really great that DF-H can deliver their dolls in such a reasonable amount of time. It reminds of how it was when I first got into this hobby, 11 years ago, and a doll actually use to arrive in 30 days. I kid you not! (I'm still waiting on a doll I ordered in July! And that's basically become the norm.)

I will post pictures as soon as she arrives! I'm very excited about getting her! I really love the DF-H 1/6 body; the lovely double joints makes it such a good poser.

 

Congratulations @Rabbit-moon! I totally agree about the wait times. I'm still waiting on an August order. Please share your girl when she arrives!

(Gee! I can't believe we're the only two in the DH-F discussion thread! I think their 1/6 dolls are actually very nice. This will make my third when Xia Ruo arrives.)

@Rabbit-moon yes, I think you are right about it being just us here. I'm hoping others will discover DF A/H too! I looked at Xia Ruo and so cute! I'm so looking forward to meeting your girl!

I am thinking of the new 33cm anime girl by DF A named Anju. Maybe later this year during another event. I will post more to keep this thread going! Off to take pictures!

I am not real familiar with DF dolls, still have quite a small collection of on topic dolls in my collection but this pic makes me think I may have to give DF a little more attention, this little guy is adorable!

Thank you @TwistedRiver! I hadn't really looked at them before this guy (Hu Xiaodao) came out. Now with Anju and Xia Ruo, I'm paying more attention. The resin is very thick and no seam lines. My guy came with extra pose hands, something the website didn't say, so a nice surprise.

@Rabbit-moon I want something short in front so his eyes show up. His head takes 9/10 wig! That's big considering he's only 33cm, lol. For the color, a golden brown, or maybe a reddish brown. It could even be fake fur. I'm just going to look around a bit. At least for once, I will have lots of options!

 

Definitely going to have to do some research on this little cutie because he is adorable! A bit bigger than I'm used to since my current tallest is a Pukifee, though I do have an MSD in my future.
That is awesome about the extra hands, after playing with my Ante I've learned I'm a sucker for things like that. xD How is the posing on DF dolls?

 

@TwistedRiver the posing is a bit stiff. I think he is strung a little tight as his legs don't want to straighten out. Once they loosen up, he will be very solid. I think he weighs as much as an msd as he is so chunky! I usually go for thin dolls, but his face was irresistible. His head is SD size, so I could always get him a bigger body, msd, or even SD. He is wearing a Hakama set meant for a12" action figure. He is big enough to wear msd, but too short. The company doesn't sell him as a fullset. That was disappointing as I like the wig and outfit. I got him during an event and saved so much I was able to get the face up. Sorry, I've gone on a bit!

 

Go on all you want! I love hearing about different dolls as it helps me to decide on possible purchases since they don't happen often. xD It is a shame that the outfit shown in his stock photos isn't available, (had to look them up after your last post) the outfit and wig are both adorable! Though when/if I manage to get one he will probably end up with dark hair so the wig wouldn't work for me anyway. xD
I will definitely be marking him down on my ever growing wishlist though.

 

Ugh, I've looked at so many wigs and haven't found one I like (for a boy). Girls are so much easier!

I was just looking at style, I'm still undecided as to color. I haven't had a doll give me this much trouble in a while.

 

Poor kurogane! Where have you been looking for wigs?

 

@Rabbit-moon lets see...eBay, Etsy, here, MOC, DDE, Volks... Actually I did find one Volks wig in a nice reddish brown color, but it costs $42 plus shipping. I have the same wig in black for another doll and tried it on. It fit and looks perfect (better on him than the other doll ). I would use it, but the color is wrong. I guess I will get the Volks one, after saving up. I'm just getting tired of the four week wait from China and at least Volks are in stock and in the US. Why does this require so much thought?

@Rabbit-moon congratulations! She is beautiful! Wow, that was a fast pre order too. I love it when they come so soon. Aww, you have such great taste, and dress your dolls so well!

I finally found the perfect wig for my guy. I honestly can't remember the name I picked out for him as I keep thinking he reminds me of Link, so he's going to be Link from now on. Anyway, I got a red and yellow flame wig from The Doll Peddler. I knew about them, but had not looked there. It should arrive this week. Link will finally be photo ready!

 

Thank you kurogane! Yeah! She showed up WAY fast! I love that about DF-H! (I just wish they hadn't discontinued so many of their great old sculpts back in 2014. I would have ordered more of their dolls.)

Hurray! So glad to hear you found the perfect wig for Kyo...okay, scratch that...he's "Link" now! Link is a good name! Isn't it funny how a doll lets you know if they like a name or not? I've had several dolls basically name themselves after I gave them perfectly good names. Every time I got near them, another name kept popping into my head. It was maddening! So, I gave up and they got the name they wanted. (Okay, enough crazy-doll-lady talk!)

The new wig sounds awesome! It will go perfectly with his coloring! I can't wait to see him all put together! Do post pictures when you get his wig. (BTW, I love Denver Dolls! I buy a lot of stuff from those ladies!)

Here is a picture of my 'fire version' Link, lol. The wig is perfect! Yay! So happy! Since I'm going to be dressing him like the tiny Link in the picture...what color for the tunic and leggings? The under shirt is easy, white, but the other two... What do you think? I was thinking a reddish brown for the tunic and maybe a dove grey leggings? Or tan, or.... Help!

The right wig makes a huge difference! I hadn't noticed how serious he is. So funny.

 

WOW! Link looks brilliant in his new wig! That color is perfect for him! And, it really brings out the colors in his eyes.

Sorry, I wish I could help you on the colors for his tunic and leggings but, unfortunately, I'm terrible with colors! Even my husband makes fun of me because my sense of color is so bad; and I'm not even color-blind! I'm sure the colors you've mentioned will work great, right?

 

@Rabbit-moon thank you! Well, color challenged or not, your dolls look amazing! So well put together, it's a joy seeing them.

My problem is too many colors to choose from! Maybe I should just go look at fabric. Since Link is an unusual size, I'm going to make the outfit from scratch. Oh well, it looks easy. His feet are actually msd size! So finding boots should be easy. I say 'should' but shoes have never been 'easy' for me. No matter what, this is going to be fun!

 

OMG he's looking so amazing! I agree with @Rabbit-moon that the wig really brings out his eyes! It's funny that how you didn't notice how serious he is, that is one of the first things I noticed that made me fall in love with his sweet face in the beginning! I'm not sure if the gray leggings would look right with the reddish brown tunic but I definitely think tan would look fabulous! It's funny because I've been trying to design a similar outfit for one of my resin babies and have been struggling with color choices too. I've pretty much narrowed down his shirt and tunic but the original pants I had him in match his current boots almost perfectly and the new pair I made him didn't quite turn out so I'm still playing with ideas there. Anyway, he looks fab, can't wait to see how he looks once you get his clothing sorted.

 

@TwistedRiver thank you! For some reason color matching with bjds is so difficult. Unless you go with black, lol. You are right, tan would look best. I'd love to see pictures of your project, for inspiration!

I think a reddish brown, tan and white color scheme will be my choice. I think a nice stretchy material for the leggings and a nice, soft heavy material for the tunic. That is, until I see what is available!

 

Oh man I hate trying to figure out colors some times and it seems just when I've figured things out, my dolls have a different idea. xD
It's not the best picture, and his outfit is still a work in progress, made with the fabric I had on hand, but here's a pic of my Elfkin Leif next to my Scorpio Aggi, (Leif is the one who's outfit is loosely based on Link) ((linking since neither doll is on topic for this thread))

@TwistedRiver oh, wow! Both dolls and outfits are so cute! Thank you for sharing! Scorpio's dress is clear! That blew me away! And you did a perfect job on Lief's outfit. You said you even made the boots? Simply amazing!

Yeah Aggi is wearing the dress I made for last year's triathlon, the skirt is actually a lid to a frappe from McDonalds. xD I can't wait to see what you come up with for your boy! You're lucky that his foot size is easier to find shoes for xD Tiny shoes are always so tricky to find anything that isn't either 'little girl' style or like keds, so I watched/read probably half a dozen tutorials till I figured out how to make a pair.
Looking at your pics so far makes me fall more and more in love with Hu Xiaodao and I've decided he is definitely going on my wishlist though it'll probably be a while before I can afford to bring one home.

 

Oh, goody! I was able to get to the fabric store today. We are expecting our fourth round of bad weather, so today was it till who knows when, lol. I searched, and searched, but reddish brown doesn't exist! It must be 'out' this year. So, I went with Link's traditional colors -green tunic and grey leggings. I got a super deal, so it cost me only $4.00. I feel good, so if I screw up, at least the cost is minimal. The fabric is knit with a nice lined texture, so stretchy, and forgiving. I'll just be extra careful when designing the patterns. I tend to make them too small, so this time, I will make a paper towel mock up. Super absorbent!

Yeah, we are finally drying out here on the West Coast. So much rain! . But, we needed it badly because of the drought.

@Rabbit-moon I'm on the west coast too! Just up north in Washington. With the weather we've been having, you'd think we were in the far north. This weekend snow and freezing rain. I guess we are making up for the mild winters, and are back to what I remember as a kid.

 

I got my first Yosd. Doll Family Yoyo on a boy body. He needs a faceup and well everything since I don't have any other Yos to share stuff with. He is wearing a pair of leggings I got at Doll AKon and a Pure Neemo top I had. He may fit into the shoes I bought that no one fit into but I haven't tried yet. My only small wig was too big so I'm planning on making one for him. Not sure where he is headed atm, perhaps clown town or an ESPer. Who knows where inspiration will strike.

SteamWitch, I don't own any of the DollFamily-A 16cm tinies, so I don't know how well they pose. I own 5 of the DollFamily-H 26cm tinies, and they are fabulous posers! I have quite a few tinies, and the DF-H YOSD-size body is my favorite. (and you can buy different hands for DF-H tinies from Doll Legend, because DF-H and Doll Legend are sister companies and their resin matches.)

He got me to successfully make a wig with a decent part so another point in his favor. He is single jointed but stands like a rock, another point for him. He looks good in his new wig - now do I want it long or short. I like that he is definitely a boy and not an angel body another point. He is racking up the + points quite well.

I guess the length of wig will depend on what his character is going to be. A mad little mage would definitely have long hair.

He hasn't told me his name yet so we are still working on that and what he does. He is growing on me.

 

Finished his faceup last night but it was too dark for photos. I tried these soulinabox eyes and I like them. He still doesn't have a name.

He is a little scamp, but he surprised me this morning with his name. It is Zuki or Zooki, not sure how to spell it but he has a name now. I think he wanted to hang out and everyone kept asking his name so he coughed it up.

@kurogane did they send you anime eyes with him or did you have to buy them separately? I think he looks way better with the anime ones, they just bring his cute little face to life ♡

 

@SynnfullKaydee the eyes I got were regular acrylic. They are the same color as the promo pictures, but aren’t anime. I got my guy some anime eyes from Volks and he does look better. During the special, I was able to get the face up for the cost of a regular blank doll. Maybe there will be a Fall event, but for sure a Winter one. Sai is still one of my favorite dolls!

 

Thanks for the info. He would be my second doll and I'm trying to find a comparison of him with a regular (not chunky) 27cm doll (mine is a Kids Sky I'm still waiting on) for proportions, but no luck yet. I'll have to do a special post, I think.

 

@SynnfullKaydee I can take a picture for you. I have quite a few yosd sculpts from different companies. No Kids Sky, but Doll Zone, 5Star, Xagadoll, and an off topic Hujoo. The body is very chunky, more like a baby in style. Right now I have the head on a Doll Chateau msd body. The head is actually SD size and takes 20mm eyes and size 8 wig. I will post the picture tomorrow.

@SynnfullKaydee I got the picture! Wow, it even surprised me the differences in yosd between companies.
Left to Right: Doll Zone b-0027 boy body, Xagadoll Red Obsidian Line, Doll Family A 30cm, and 5Star Doll. DF-A is huge! A totally different scale, more like the Big Baby but for yosd. I hope this helps. I wish DF-A just sold the heads as I'd get the girl version and put her on a DC k-01 body.

@kurogane Thank you, seeing them all together really does help a lot! He is big, but not horribly so. He's so cute, though, so I'm even more excited to have him on my wishlit now ♡
I'm finding that a lot of sculpts I really like the heads, but not always the bodies, so I'm with you on wishing more places just did heads separately and I'm not quite brave enough (or educated enough) yet to try hybriding.

I was wondering if you've found any good clothes that fit your Hu Xiaodao and maybe what size they were? His proportions are so different!

 

@SynnfullKaydee sorry, I never tried to use the chubby body as I put the head on a msd DC body instead. I was disappointed that DF-A didn’t sell the outfit he is pictured in, or the wig. I wanted mine as a fullset, but now he is a hybrid.

I'm hoping I'm posting this in the right place. If not sorry for my newbieness. I'm purchasing DF-A Kabu soon and I was wondering if someone who already has him could help me out. I'm trying to get some custom clothing made for him and I've noticed his sizes are very different compared to the more standard sized BJDs. If someone already has him could you please help me with these measurements?

- the arm length from armpit to wrist
- around the upper arm
- around the wrist
- around the thigh
- around the base of the thigh
- from the waist to the end of the thigh

Also what eye size does Kabu use? I've seen many different sites say 14mm, 18mm, and 20mm. I want to purchase eyes but with sizes that vague I'm having trouble.

Just an update in case anyone also was wondering about the sizes of DF-A 33cm dolls:

-the arm length from armpit to wrist 8.2cm
-around the upper arm 7cm
-around the wrist 5.2cm
-around the thigh 11.2cm
-around above the knee 8.6cm
-from the waist to the knee on the outer side of the body 12cm

I still don't know the eye size though. If anyone could help me out with that I'd be very grateful

 

@Calithil my guy wears 18mm anime eyes. I’m pretty sure regular eyes can go up to 20mm, if you want the big iris look. 16mm and the eyes start gapping. Hope this helps! This is for the 33cm anime dolls. The heads are actually SD sized and take 8-9 wig, same as Volks Dollfie Dream. I’m not sure about the non anime heads on the 33cm body though.
