Desperately seeking Spacemuffin, now AKA Demitasse- FINAL OUTCOME - NEGATIVE FEEDBACK

Apr 6, 2006

    1. I'm not trying to start any trouble by this, but I have to disagree with this statement. I don't think that Marsh is allowing her imagination to run wild, nor are a lot of people that have reacted to this thread. The fact that Spacemuffin is now once again MIA doesn't leave people with much to "imagine", nor does the fact that she claims one thing but there was obviously something lost in translation (and I don't mean literally here).

I understand that you have had good dealings with Spacemuffin and all that jazz but what about Marsh? I feel that overall she has handled this EXTREMELY well given the circumstances. I also don't see any situations of "imaginations running wild" other than people reacting to this situation which really DOES look bad. The eyes could have been a mistake, fine, the scratches, maybe, but to go MIA all of a sudden is not a mistake. If you are in the middle of a transaction that has gone sour with somebody you should at least be answering them if you are the selling party, not ignoring them which, in this case, it does appear to be the case.

    2. I've never had any dealings with Spacemuffin, good or bad. O_o

I have no idea who she is or why she won't contact Marsh or settle. I wish she would.

And I didn't say Marsh's imagination had run away with her - I've talked with Marsh - she seems very sensible, and reasonable.

    3. I apologize, I meant to say your dealings with the middleman.... fingers don't keep up with brain....

    4. *deep breaths*

OK, first, Janne has been amazingly helpful and supportive of me throughout this situation. She spent a fair amount of time the day the damaged head arrived discussing the situation with me and reviewing the correspondence between Spacemuffin and myself. She gave me some excellent advice and I am very grateful for her input.

Secondly, yes, this was a transaction on our DoA sales forum. That post has been long deleted. I wish it had not been before the transaction was complete, but that can't be helped now.

Now, as of the current time, I still have not heard from Spacemuffin. I did return the eyes. Delivery confirmation is as follows:

At this point I have done everything humanly possible to complete this transaction in a fair and reasonable manner. If Spacemuffin has any interest in repairing her reputation as a good trader, she will refund me AT LEAST for the retail value of Zoukeimura eyes that she stated were included in the sale. She should make some sort of refund for the damage, but as everyone can see, the vast majority of it has been repaired and one could argue that the doll is in lovely condition NOW, even if it did not arrive in the condition promised in the sale. I definitely feel Spacemuffin has had ample time to make good on her promises. I suspect she never will.

I'm very grateful of the support from everyone who's read and posted on this thread, but I really think it's time for all of us to come off the boil a little. Be sadder and wiser maybe, because it's not pleasant to feel a fellow collector is dishonest, but move back toward the joys of this hobby.

I know that's what I need to do.

As for Spacemuffin, I seriously hope everyone here proceeds with extreme caution before making any trades of any sort with Spacemuffin.

    5. That was very well said, Marsh. ^_^ I hope Spacemuffin refunds you the money for the eyes soon.

    6. Oh, that's happened to me, too - plenty of times. *^_^*

Actually, the middleman is a RL friend, not a former trader. And while I know being a friend of mine is no assurance of quality - *laughing* - I have no reason not to believe her.

But the fact is, the head was modified before Spacemuffin bought it. It's reasonable to think that the person who reshaped the head left a few scratches that Spacemuffin and my friend never even noticed.

None of us will ever know the complete truth of what went on here - but speculation - especially baseless speculation - does no-one credit.

The mods always urge people to deal with caution with anyone. Not every purchase is going to be 100% satisfactory to all parties - some people mis-lable things, whether by ignorance, accident, or with the purpose of misleading - and we can't know why.

Look at the Shirou deal - people who've been in the hobby for years can't tell if he's been repainted or not. There's just a lot even Western "experts" in the hobby don't know for certain.

If you have a deal you're not satisfied with, by all means post here to see if it can be resolved. And do your best to resolve it, keeping the lines of communication open as long as you can.

Ultimately, the goal is not to smear someone (obviously) but to be satisfied you've gotten what you paid for - or to at least advise the community to caution, as Marsh has done. (And I still hope Spacemuffin will cowboy up and pay.)

    7. New update. I received this email late last night:

      From: Berry <[email protected]>

      To: [email protected]

      Date: Fri 04/28/06 10:58 PM

      Hi,

I just recieved a phone call that the eyes arrived. As I have exams and other obligations this week, I will be unable to mail out your refund until after the 8th. I will however, send it via registered mail, so I can make sure it gets to you.

      Thanks.

Is it unreasonable for me to feel that yet another delay in fulfilling a commitment is outrageous? Maybe if things had gone smoothly up til this point, but Spacemuffin's lack of interest in making things right with the promptness she promised just bothers me.

I'll update again if/when her refund arrives.

    8. I for one believe that you are not being unreasonable in thinking that yet ANOTHER delay is outrageous. Even with other commiments there should be no reason why she should be delaying in resolving this matter. It has gone on too long and she should be sending you your refund now, not "next week" or whenever. If something is important enough you make time, that's what I think. And it's about time she really take an interest in correcting this on going problem so you both and put it behind you.

      ~Just my two cents.

Hang in there, Marsh. I hope it works out soon!

    9. Thanks Achsfan! It's very frustrating.

It's the 8th, and no word from Spacemuffin regarding the refund she promised to send. I emailed her this afternoon. No response yet.

Disappointing that she's STILL delaying, even when she herself set the current, broken deadline.

    10. I got a response from Spacemuffin today -- another delay, apparently.

If you will re-read the email, you will note that I said I would be unable to send anything until -after- the 8th.

It will be sent tomorrow, and I will, of course, send you an email with the registered number.

      Thanks.

It didn't make me happy to hear it STILL hadn't been sent out. The admonishing tone also didn't thrill me, considering that this situation has been going on for months. I've given her lots of opportunities to do the right thing and complete this transaction in a cordial, civil manner, and have been careful not to stalk or hound her. Here's my response:

You'll have to forgive my incredulity. You've told me lots of different things and delivered on few of them. After all this I think it's a little inappropriate for you to be snippy with me when I've been very, VERY patient. Maybe you need to remember, you're not the one who's been cheated here.

I'll look forward to receiving my refund. Remember, I need a USPS POSTAL money order.

      Thank you.

If Spacemuffin is sick of dealing with this, maybe she needs to remember that she's not alone in that sentiment and that the solution is and always has been in her hands.

So, we'll see what happens and if I get that promised email with registered number tomorrow or another evasion or delay.

    11. Three words. SMALL CLAIMS COURT.

      semirans

    12. It's a little difficult to do that when I'm in Michigan and she's in South Carolina. I have no idea how to go about that or if it's even worth it for the amount of money involved. I'm not even sure she HAS the money. You'd think if she did she'd've refunded me like she promised to almost a month ago if she did. It would have saved her a lot of grief.

    13. Even if you could get her into small claims court, it is a pain in the butt by Michigan law to prove an internet transaction.... The judges just don't want to see anything and act like it isn't worth their time.

    14. I received a partial refund, finally, from Spacemuffin today. It was not the $80 retail value of the Zoukeimura eyes she claimed were included in the sale. It was not even the $50 refund SHE OFFERED me. Spacemuffin sent a postal money order in the amount of $40. It's disappointing, but given the fact that I had come to expect I'd receive nothing but more excuses and evasions, and that by all reports, even sending this much was a hardship for her, I'm grateful to have some kind of resolution.

Given the inadequate refund, the amount of heartache that came from this transaction and the less than honest, whether intentional or not, communication from Spacemuffin, I can not change my feedback from negative to even neutral. I do not advise anyone to ever deal with this person. Perhaps in time she can repair her once good reputation, but I would not deal with her again under any circumstances. At the very best, she's ignorant of proper sales etiquette and at worst she's a scammer. I certainly did not receive the items she contracted to sell me and she did not adequately make good on any of her promises of reparation.

Approach this seller with extreme caution.
