      It's time to send our default avatar to the spa for a new faceup. Help create a fresh face to welcome new angels to the den! Get out your digital pastels, paints, and brushes to create the next DoA Avatar.

      The winning entry will become the default avatar used by members who do not have a custom avatar.

      This is the current avatar that you will be replacing:

      The Prize
      A $100 gift certificate to Nine9 Style!

      Deadline
      The deadline is midnight, August 15, 2016 in your timezone.
      The winner will be chosen by DoA staff and will be announced on or before August 31, 2016.

      Rules
      • All designs must be related to BJDs and/or angels.
      • Your entry must be your original design.
      • Your design must not reference a specific sculpt or doll company.
      • You may submit up to three different entries.

      How to Enter
      Your entry must be a 192x192px png image file named username_avatar.png – substitute your Den of Angels username for 'username'.

      Optionally, you may make an additional female and male avatar using the format username_avatar_female.png and username_avatar_male.png.

      The design can be a monochrome silhouette or a colourful illustration, but it must have a transparent background. Avatars should look good at the different sizes used on DoA, whether displayed as a circle or square. Avatars should not include text.

    3. @Kitazawa I believe the unisex one is default, but I will have to check it. All three avatars currently look exactly the same.

    4. Sorry I meant in the submission form. It requires you to enter the unisex and male gendered avatar, even though the male one should be optional.

    9. @arlais A transparent background means there is clear space around the avatar where the background colour from the forum can show through.

      If you are on a computer (not a phone), you can scroll to the bottom of this page and click the Color Options button. It shows four options for different sets of colours. Depending on which one you choose, the background colour of the newbie avatars will change.

      If you use the psd template, it has the three background colours so that you can test your avatar in front of them.

    10. Does the avatar design have to incorporate a transparent background? If all pixels are being used in the artwork then transparency is irrelevant, right?

    12. Is it alright to draw one on paper as long as I'm able to upload it and make it transparent later? (Like does it have to be digital art? x_x) Thank u ~

    14. I have a question. I submitted my entry, but I wasn't completely sure about the URL part on the entry form. I'm assuming that we have to use an image hosting site and just link the .png.... but with photobucket (which I used) it changes the name of the file a bit (it just adds lots of random letters to the end of the " username_avatar" part. Is this a problem?

    15. This happened to me as well when I used flickr. What I had to do was find a different hosting website that didn't change the png to a jpg. I think I used postimage.org but I'm not 100% sure.

    17. I submitted a design but on a colored background. The form is already in, is there any way I could change the pngs? (I do have the transparent version of my submission.) :doh

    20. I just submitted my entry but I'm not sure if I uploaded the files correctly :sweat I use imgur for my image hosting and their urls don't really show the filenames, but I was also given the option to upload them on DoA with the proper format so I may have submitted duplicates. Please let me know if it's still alright!

    24. Question: If I choose to 'enter for fun', does that eliminate my design from the competition? I'd really like to participate, but being an artisan, I feel uncomfortable competing for the prize.

    25. @Silk You can enter and win – and have the avatar used on DoA – even if you enter 'for fun'. Entering for fun just means that you would not receive the giftcard to Nine9 Style.

    27. I just have a question about my filename. My username contains a period, but I had to omit it from my filename as it is an invalid character. I know it's probably not a big deal, but I just wanted to confirm.

    37. When I try to upload the file it says 'Please enter a value that matches the required format'. I uploaded it to Flickr, but I'm not sure if it changed it to a jpeg...

    38. Try clicking the share button, copy everything, and then paste it in a word doc or even the search bar.

      Find and highlight the part in the link that starts with http:// and ends in .jpg, .gif, or .png.

      Put that in the url form spot.

      If the url ends in numbers it won't post properly.

      If anyone is still having trouble you can always post in Ask the Moderators!

    39. For some reason Flickr changed my png file to a jpeg o.0

      I think I finally got it, thanks! I needed to grab the BBcode on Flickr, select 'Original 192 x 192' and copy the bit that was 'https...png' Phew. The last horse crosses the finish line. Understanding finally dawns. Thank you so much for your help! Hopefully this helps the other Flickr users.
      I think I may have submitted twice for each of my 3 entries though 0.o

      We're not having any issues receiving entries. Unless your browser crashed while you were submitting the form, there isn't any need to confirm that your entry was received. If you really think that something went wrong during your submission, please post in Ask the Moderators.

    48. I'm not a mod, so take this with a grain o salt, but usually when a deadline is at midnight o' clock it's meant as a "at the end of the day", so I think you were still in time.

    54. @NekoNyanMew We won't be posting all the entries, as they are hard to display. (Many are white against a transparent background.) If you'd like to post your entry in this thread, feel free – you don't need to wait for the contest results. We received a lot of beautiful designs, so it's a tough decision!

    55. since we're allowed to go ahead and share our entries I thought I'd post mine.
      I wanted something that was bjd and angel related, but that wasn't actually all that far off from the standard new user icon.
      and it's shown here with one of the three blue background options for the forum.

    57. I guess I'll show mine as well. .-. This was my first time trying to draw on a tablet, really and I'm sure mine won't be chosen. But it shows me that I really should practice so that maybe some day my skills will improve. ^-^ I look forward to seeing what the new avatar actually will be (even though I won't use it myself xD).
