Since I have access to a free to use 3d printer at our public library. I thought to make my own bjd a year and a half ago. I found a bjd model on thingiverse and made some modifications and made my own doll. Someone liked my pictures and modifications enough to commission me to make a head from scratch for them with artist choice in style and look. They'll be printing a copy in resin for me as well. I was just told to make something I thought was beautiful. lol day 1 in blender sculpting day 2 going for an Asian look many days later I finally worked up the motivation for the ears and open and closed eyes for a total for 4 possible face plates. Playing with different nose pointiness to see which I prefer. Test printed in a medium .2mm layer quality the head back, and the closed eyes/human ear faceplate. There's a layer shift, but it's enough to tell that it's def too small of a head for the 1/3 scale when comparing to wigs. More like a 1/4 scale. This picture for some reason isn't appearing very well. so here's the link. https://i.imgur.com/zHTL2LJ.jpg Resized head put on a 3d printed body with a couple parts I designed and several existing parts that I modified from thingiverse Partially sanded with a temporary face up I found that the previous test print neck joint placement on the head was too far back and made the chin very prominent and jutting. Also the back of the head was too round/bulbous. so I did some more adjusting of the shape of the back of the head, chin length, and positioning of the neck joint. This is the closed eye/human ear version. I ended up doing another test print trying out ABS this time of the open eyed/fantasy ear faceplate. Orientation should be changed to minimize layers you see on the undereyes and forehead, but I'm much happier with the over all shape now. Comparison of the current model on the the left to the previous on the right. The changes of the back of the head shape and chin is made more obvious side by side. Eyes were also lowered to make a more youthful appearance. https://i.imgur.com/c3kOHuT.jpg Testing a look with a wig. With the previous iteration of the head, I didn't like this black wig very much, but now that I've changed the head shape, it looks so much better. https://i.imgur.com/GUh1NTJ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TOaLMLo.jpg
Oh, she looks really cool! Great job !! (Also, I know it's not gonna stay for the final piece, but the printing layers on the forehead and under eyes kinda looked cool, imo XD It reminded me of a third eye, of sorts ! )
Acetone polished the ABS. which left it looking extremely shiny. Spraying with MSC left it with a nice matte finish. it's a prototype so it's def not perfect, but enough to get the job done/do a quick and dirty faceup. (also pictured is my first 3d printed BJD sculpt that was based of an existing model) https://i.imgur.com/QAhcshz.jpg Here's Deneb put together to get a general impression (also modeling my first attempt at making some resin eyes). Nothing seems wrong per se, but she still doesn't feel quite right. I think I want to make her cheeks a little fuller and adjust her nostrils and maybe adj the shape of the lips... Opinions? https://i.imgur.com/1nSIdFc.jpg
that sculpt is really nice, it's really delicate! But if you think you'd like to change a thing or two... Maybe the lips? the jaw/cheeks + nose are quite nice in my opinion! But I couldn't tell you what to change in the lips maybe make the middle of the top lip just a tad higher?
