Rules Den of Angels Celebrates A Decade of Angels!

Aug 1, 2014

    1. Welcome to our 10th Anniversary Celebration!

This August Den of Angels celebrates our tenth anniversary as a forum. We hope to meet many of you at Dollism Plus USA in September, but we have plenty of online contests, prizes and fun activities planned throughout August.

In 2004, Den of Angels outgrew its roots as a Yahoo Group email list and moved to the forum format we have today. Whether you’ve been with us from the start or just joined recently, you've all contributed to DoA's growth. We have seen many changes over the past decade, and this month we’d like to celebrate the evolution of our hobby and community. Our theme this year is:

Each week will have a special focus for discussion and contests:

Week 1: A Decade of Couture
We'll kick off with a special couture-inspired contest as we remember some of the best (and worst!) fashion trends of the 20th century. The winner will get first choice from some incredible full doll prizes!

Week 2: The Face of the Decade
Face-up styles have evolved tremendously over the years. Show off your skills in our face-up contest with a theme related to our tenth anniversary. The winner will get first choice from some wonderful doll heads!

Week 3: A Decade in Pictures
Photography is a huge part of the BJD hobby for many people. This week we'll celebrate our visual journey and hold a photography contest. The winner will get first choice from top quality custom items and services!

Week 4: A Decade of Wonderful Surprises
Our celebrations will wrap up with a special contest with a surprise theme!

Each main weekly contest will be announced on a Friday. We will also have smaller games just for fun along the way.

As is tradition now for our anniversary celebrations, we will also be hosting the Great Triathlon contest with its own special weekly challenges!

      Attitude and Participation

The Weekly and Triathlon contests are open to all members who have joined on or before the date of June 30th, 2014. We apologize to anyone who may join after that date, but these are events that are intended as gifts for members who are already participating in the community. Moderators may participate for fun, but they are not eligible for prizes. Members who have won a prize in a past contest are not eligible to win a prize in the same type of contest this year. We welcome new members to share in discussion and join in smaller games throughout the month.

Participants must be members in good standing. Members may not participate if they have a marketplace suspension, marketplace ban, unresolved transactions or a paging status.

Den of Angels maintains a firm anti-recast policy. It is our unwavering support of doll artisans that allows us to offer such highly coveted contest prizes to our members. Out of respect for the generous contributors to this year's events, we ask that recast supporters not compete for prizes. We do not want to exclude rule-abiding members from the fun, but we hope that they continue to respect our stance on this matter. Recast supporters are welcome to enter contests using on-topic BJDs, but should tick the box indicating "I am not competing for a prize" on their contest submissions.

We have high hopes that everyone will show great sportsmanship and a positive attitude this year. Don’t let us down! Complainers will lose access to the Events subforum and will not be eligible for prizes.

If you have a question about a contest's rules, please post in Ask the Moderators prior to the close of submissions. We're human and do make errors, so we are happy to clarify rules or correct typographical errors. However, complaining after the fact (especially during/after the voting period) will be grounds for disqualification. If you miss a deadline or break the rules, we do not want to hear that it was because you thought something was “unfair” but failed to clarify the rules with the moderators. Remember that DoA is run by volunteers; we’ll answer your questions as fast as we can, but we may need a little extra time during the festivities.

In the spirit of good sportsmanship, please do not try to get your fellow contestants disqualified on petty technicalities. If an entry is up for voting, then the moderators feel it meets the contest's specifications; please only contact us if you know for sure that someone is cheating, whether by breaking rules or soliciting votes off-site.

And most of all, if you should be announced as the winner of a prize, please remember to personally thank the company or individual artist who donated your prize! These artists are generously giving us some truly amazing prizes without any monetary compensation. Your thanks and appreciation are very important to them and to the future of our contests!
