Aesthetics DC Bella - First Face-up.. Ever! Advice/Critique Welcome.

Jan 21, 2016

    1. *Clears throat* Soo.. I got my DC Bella today and well, I bought her Blank. I've wanted to do my own face-ups for quite some time, there's so many talented people and it's just something about doing stuff on your own so.. Yeah!

I am sorry for the shine, I just sealed it with Mr Super clear. I went for a more natural look, eyelashes will be added in later as I do not have the right glue on hand to use. And yes, there are no eyebrows nor will there be any. It's not because I don't wanna do them, more that they don't 'fit' for the Character that I got in mind.

Due to the flash the face appear more pink than IRL, also as you may have already guessed, the coat still hasn't dried, hence the shine.

I wish I had added a bit more color on the lips, though I'd love some advice what to think about in the future/what to improve on!

Not as pink as the first and I applied the coat correctly this time. No shine!

Sorry about the eye-putty showing, I need to locate my white one once I get some time. Anyways. Any advice/critique is more than welcome!

    5. love your second attempt very soft and pretty

    6. @Dreaming143

Thank you for the kind comment, I will strive to be even better in the future~

    7. Very pretty. A suggestion for the lips is to use the same color you did on the freckles for the deepest creases of the lips? Or even a slightly darker shade of the same color as the lips inside the creases where the shadow of the lips would be. I hope that helps.

    8. @Serdtse

Oh, thank you~! I will definitely keep that advice in mind when I have some more time to practice and redo it.

    9. whoa, for first and second attempts you seem to be a bit of a natural at faceups!! if you do a third attempt i would say try to layer colors over each other a little more, especially on the eyelid area. have you thought about adding some color to the nose as well? :o

    10. @mermaids

First off; Thank you so much for your kind comment! I had a lot of fun doing both, more so on the second try haha.
It's not visible in the photo but the tip of her little nose do have a tiny tiny bit of blush, as do her chin, but I didn't want to go overboard like I did the first.
But yeah, I didn't really layer much this time around, tried to do it more soft and subtle. I agree with you in adding more color around the eyes as It's bothering me as well, but with practice you get result so imma do just that.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind and take it to heart and hopefully I'll keep improving :)

    11. Wow, it's crazy that that is your first faceup! The freckles look so good, how did you do them? The only thing I would say is maybe add some darker color around the eyes to make them pop more?

    12. @Wismur

Thank you for both the comment and advice! The freckles were made using acrylic paint and a lot of water. You then dip a denser brush in it and use your finger to sort of flick the color onto the face. :)

    13. The freckles are so natural and dreamy, I love it! My only critique would be to perhaps trim her eyelashes a tad? It seems to be long enough to catch in her hair, which takes away from that beautiful natural effect the freckles have

    14. @amanduhhx

Thank you for the kind comment, and I might trim the eyelashes though I'm not sure. The wig she wear is not the one she will end up having, I'm looking for a pale blond/white one, or a natural Ginger. If I get ginger however, then I'll switch out the eyelashes to a more natural color. But thanks for the advice!

    15. You can use more blushing on the cheeks to make them feel more alive as well as making lips a little more warmer/vibrant. Also more color around the eyes can help as well. Otherwise good job! :3

    16. The freckles are top quality! How did you do them?

    17. @Mossmose

I wrote a reply to this question before: The freckles were made using acrylic paint and a lot of water. You then dip a denser brush in it and use your finger to sort of flick the color onto the face.

Thank you for the kind comment~

    18. I like the subtlety of the second attempt, although both are nice in their own way :D

I do think something between the blushing of the first and second in terms of intensity would be good, the first one is a bit too strong and the second a bit too understated. The freckles look awesome, the brush flick technique is fun. Also hooray for no-eyebrows dolls!

    19. she looks gorgeous! i think maybe a bit more depth into her lips and that will make her faceup stand out but otherwise she reminds me a princess and i can imagine you dressing her up in a white gown along with white hair like a little angel

    20. Awesome face-up!! At first I said "wow!" and then I saw your 2nd attempt and thought "WOW NOW" heheh! I used the sme technique as you with freckles, it's definetely the best way to do it (that I've tried), they look very natural, and they definetely look super cute on your Bella :)

    21. Beautiful work! Very natural and the freckles look great! I'd suggest a little more variation in the colors like in the lips and on the top eyelid. And maybe a brown 'eyeliner' to define the upper lid a little more. I think it might give her face a little more dimension just to push it one step further! Otherwise a fantastic start!
