66cm+ Dolls Dapper Doll Workshop (Various sculpts/experiments/Full Body Printed 11/24)

Sep 22, 2021

    1. Hello all! I am a video game artist by day, so zbrush is my main medium, and a few years ago I got a 3d printer and started trying to print my own bjd sculpt. Then I had a baby, and when I was preggo, I didn't want to be near all the toxic materials. Well now she's a bit older and I am starting the quest again to 3D print some sculpts.

Just to start things off, here's where it landed last time:

Main points I want to improve on this round (as well as playing around with printing a few heads) Is the knee and hip joints. They never worked quite right, but since zbrush added the live boolean function I think I can really clean these up since the last attempt!

      Some renders!

    2. Also working on this new head sculpt last night! It has some potential I think...but still need to do a lot of refining before she goes to print:

    3. What beautiful, clean work! Please teach me how to use ZBrush! Just kidding - but I recently downloaded the trial version and goodness does it have a challenging interface!

Both of these sculpts look really nice - I particularly like the eye shape of your first sculpt and the mouth shape of your second. Beautiful hands and feet, too. If you feel like posting more as you progress, I would love to see how they evolve!

    5. These look marvelous! I'm so curious to see more of this! Does the head have a neck mechanism that goes up into the middle part and then rotate across and 'lock' inside the head? That's really creative, I haven't seen that before!
Your sculpts are so smooth and clean, it really shows that you're a professional 3d artist and translates beautifully into your doll sculpts! <3

    6. :hug:YOU ARE TOO NICE! Thank you so much! Yes the lil neck thing was an experiment to hold up the string, it's pretty handy for taking the head off actually. I might switch to a faceplate system...still not sure XD

You are all giving me super motivation to get back into this project, thank you so much for the kind words <3
I did some more work this weekend, trying to get her lines cleaner, adding more details and eventually making her joints really work smoothly. Here's a render!

    7. Ah they're so gorgeous! I love them, they're so unique and refined at the same time, absolute masterpieces! All the joints don't even look like joints either they're incorporated into the sculpt so well

    8. Wauw!!! She is soo aesthetically pleasing! Everything works together so well, the lines flow super naturally into each other and I really like the hips a lot. I love that the ball joint itself is so visible and that it actually takes a part in the shape of the hip, and that the widest part of the hip/thigh is so low. It looks so good, your shapes are just really really successful!
And I'm so glad to help motivate you to get back into it, I'd absolutely love to follow along with more of your process!! <3

    9. Thank you so so much DeadlyNyappyRomance! Still very much in progress, but again it's nice to hear the efforts are worth it for the esthetics!

I took a lil break from working on this doll, to do a bit of a fan project...A spock head...for me...cause I wanted a spock haha.
I made him to fit my 5th motif body!

    10. That new head...is getting a new body. I've been posting mostly on my instagram, but basically I've decided that since the proportions are never gonna be perfect with a hybrid...I need to make a whole doll haha! Talk about jumping off the deep end!

    16. He's amazing! Will he remain like a Ken doll or will he have a peen?

    17. I can hardly wrap my head around 3D modeling, so the fact you've been able to do all of this is beyond incredible to me! Lovely work so far, you've got some true artistry going on in these sculpts. Congrats on the baby as well!

    18. He does have one, I just didn't want to get instagram shadow banned XD

Thank you!!! It's been a real journey raising a whole human these past two years, and it's fun to get back into this hobby after so long as well. <3
