Hey guys! I'm working on a new doll. I was originally trying to sculpt a doll in porcelain, but I've since set my sights on resin. Here's my old doll: View attachment 715 Here's my concept design: View attachment 713 Here's my face design: View attachment 714
Been working hard today! Here's my torso progress: I'm hoping to get further along tonight. I just had to take a break. I was curious, what inspires you guys when you're working? I'm thinking movies/music etc? I've been listening to Bat For Lashes and watching the film Sleeping Beauty (with Emily Browning who inspired my doll's lips).
Some of my best sessions have been while listening to TED talks. But I've seen so many now that I just get reruns. I also like to listen to music while I work, generally Debussy's Pandora channel, but sometimes I like nightcore (lol contrast). When I work I tend to enjoy it when whatever else is going on is not visually distracting (unless its reference material). Your doll is looking great! Her cheek bones remind me of Olivia Wilde and I can definitely see some of Ms Browning in the lips. Keep up the good work XD
I could see TED talks being a great thing to have on while working. I'll have to try that. Thank you! I can totally see Olivia Wilde in her too now that you said that. I think Olivia's stunning so thanks!
Thanks so much Glyndon! I actually don't have a job at the moment so I've been treating doll making like my job this week. I'm hoping to keep going at this rate until she's finished! I actually spoke with an old professor of mine and he said he'd be happy to critique her when I'm finished. I'm super pumped because he's very very talented at realism! Here she is with her wig on!
The second hand is getting closer to finished. It went way faster than the first one, which was a bit of a relief.
I did a pretty terrible face up on her really quick, just to get an idea of what she'll eventually look like. It's terrible because even baked sculpey is too soft to really use watercolor pencils on.
Performed major surgery to make her torso less long after I adjusted her breasts to be a little higher:
Wow! Face ups on resin are like night and day versus on Sculpey or Monster High dolls! I've done quite a few Monster High face ups and they are way more difficult to get the watercolor colored pencils to stick (even with Mr. Super Clear!). Anyway, my Popovy Sisters doll head "Cherry" arrived yesterday in the mail! I immediately went to Hobby Lobby and got the couple extra supplies I needed to attempt a face up on her. After babysitting my baby brother and sister I started my first real attempt at a face up on a resin BJD. Very exciting! I must say, VERY DIFFICULT as well! Especially as the Popovy Sisters doll's heads are so tiny! I thought she'd be bigger! She's quite a bit smaller than my doll attempt. Looking and working on her face up definitely made me want to make some changes to my head sculpt. My mom also gave me some notes on her face thatI want to incorporate. Anyway, here's pictures!! Before: After (the first of many tries):
So I wiped off yesterday's face up and redid it with acrylic paints. The eyes and liner were way easier with paint. Next time I try it, I'm going to use watercolor colored pencils on the eyebrows, acrylics on the eyes, and chalk pastels for the lips. Here's the pictures from today:
I just couldn't help myself and had to paint my doll just to see. I'm pretty happy with how she came out and cannot wait until I have her in resin and can really see what she'll look like.
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know my house was burglarized last night and my laptop was stolen so I'm not going to be able to update like I'd like to anymore. Sad I'll keep working though! I'll try to post from another computer if I get the chance. Anyway, xoxo.
that really sucks, wow : | I'm surious, are you going to open your sculpt's eyes? or will you leave them closed to be painted on like the popovy head?
