Cyanide v2.0

Mar 24, 2006

    1. (edit: Thank you Cassiel for authorization <3)

Hi! a (long) while ago I posted v1.0, which not only was pretty ugly, but also way to big, as I realized when I got my first SD. Alas, this SD being a girl, I have no idea if my second attempt would fit on a boy body, but that's okay, since his ears are really crappy and I forgot to make his "neck" "thinner"... (though I'm afraid I'll never be able to do it again... T-T)

I'll start version 3 once I have a male body, please let me know if you have any piece of advice before, it'd be greatly appreciated ^_^

(was supposed to look vaguely like a James Marsters with a longer face... ^^;;; )

    2. Wow... I think he looks pretty good just as he is! :3

    3. Oh, he does look like James Marsters! You definitely caught the expression! ^_^

    4. I really like him. The nose and lips are great!

    5. if you look at the measurements of the boy body you like, you can guess about how large the head should be according to his height and neck measurements.

also, you may want to go by the measurements of the body as a starting point while you work on making your own body, and adjust or incorporate your own ideas from there.

      hope this helps.

    6. Wow--Cheekbones, chin, ears, attitude.

      What a great doll.

Ok, not that helpful, but I'm terribly impressed.

    7. I think he looks really cool!!

Speaking as an artist, I think his ears need to be smaller . . . the face is just right, though, and you've definitely got the expression!

You might want to carve out the mouth-corners (especially on the side that's facing the camera in the bottom right) to give his mouth more depth (most people have little indentations there), but otherwise, I think his face sculpt is dead-on.

      Great job!!

    8. wow! thank you so much for all your advice, and the unexpected compliment!

      batchix > thank you *3*

      mxiong > Totally! But at this size, a 1cm (sorry for the metric system XP) makes a big difference between just fine, and slighlty too big/small... I worked with an articulated paper model to get a proper sens of proportions (I made paperdolls before I could afford my first girl), but it's meaningful only if I make the whole body, I should have paid more attention to the real dolls size, you're right u_u;;;

Ashbet > definitly, his ears are way too big, and look like they've been rrr... "smashed" against his face u_u and the mouth corner tip is excellent! thank you!

Ann, Chilmark Griffon > thank you =^_^=

Janne > thanks! I'm glad you think so! I worked without a picture, since I wanted the cheek bones and the expression, but not a complete portrait (though I guess I wouldn't have been able to do an accurate one XP), so I'm glad it worked!

    9. Glad to be helpful! He really *IS* a great sculpt, I look forward to seeing the final version :D

Regarding the ears -- did you hold him in your hands, or put him on a table, as you sculpted? That will often flatten out exterior features like ears . . . I found (after much trial and MUCH error) that it worked better to mount the head on a pike -- er, a stick securely seated in a wooden base, so that I could get to all sides without flattening any of them out in the process.

Oh, and I agree -- you've definitely got the Marsters "feel" going on with him!

      *mwah!*
