Customs Customs fees coming into Bahrain

May 20, 2011

    1. Hello all,

I'm gonna buy a doll from Peakswoods and they deal with EMS shipping company
and since I'm gonna buy doll for the first time... i have a question.. *_*

my shipping address is in Bahrain..
I want to know.. is there going to be any additional fees when I will receive my package or I will get my doll without paying anything?
I dont know if that is something with the shipping company or the country itself thats why I'm not sure who to ask. :...(

I hope someone can tell me the answer. :aheartbea

    2. Any additional fees will be because of your country's customs system and not the shipping system itself. I'm afraid I don't even know where Bahrain is :sweat /sobadatgeography If your country charges customs on dolls/toys coming in to the country, and your doll's value is marked above their threshold, then there's a good chance you will be charged.

In the UK, we're charged 20% VAT on the package, plus (if it's over £36 in value) I think 3.5% or 4.5% of the value in customs. And then a handling fee of £13.50 from our wonderful *coughcoughsarcasmcoughcough* mailing system, Parcelfarce :)

Some companies do mark down the value of packages though - and you can usually request this from many companies - but bear in mind that in most countries this is illegal :sweat You'd also be liable for any damage that occurs in transit if you requested they mark the package down, as it invalidates the insurance on the cost of the doll (for example, if they mark a $300 doll at $30 they can only claim back $30 in insurance if the doll gets broken, so you would most likely have to pay for the difference). It's just something to be aware of, since many people risk it all the time and get away fine, but others don't so it depends on if you're willing to take the risk :)

Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't get customs fees in your country and good luck bringing your doll home :aheartbea

    3. its in the middle east xD
I actually did take the risk of trying .. i already told peakswoods i will buy the doll and already paid for the first month
but im afraid i will have to pay a lot when i get the doll that i cant even pay it or idk

the problem is ppl in my country dont rly buy dolls .. i doubt anyone here knows about BJD's =p

anyways.. thank you for your reply ^^

    4. Well, the only thing I can find on google about customs fees for Bahrain is a 10% duty on "non-essential items" - but it doesn't describe what it means and whether or not this includes private or only commercial imports.

It might be best if you looked it up in your language, I can only find sites in English so they're probably not the most helpful I'm afraid :sweat And I'm guessing English isn't the native language in Bahrain? (It might be, but it isn't in most countries on the continent though so I'm just assuming )

    5. Thank you for trying to help me ^^ the main language here is Arabic

I did some reseaches too (in English and Arabic) but I didnt really get a clear answer

I mailed them and I am waiting for an answer

since you let me know that this is something related to the country itself this is going to make it more easy for me to get the answer

Thanks a lot for the help =)

      ~ <3

    6. No problems, I hope you manage to find out and that you don't get hit by fees! :D
