Hi All - OK I have completed the eye transplant. LOL I think some people may think it looks scary but I think it looks pretty Cool on my Vampire girl. The only issue right now is that the eye does not close all the way due to the fact that the pre-done eyelashes hit the bottom portion of the eye not allowing the eye to close all the way. You can see pictures here: http://members.cox.net/aegawa/ If you click on the little pictures a big one will come up. For some reason I can not get that to work on the dress pictures. Dumb old Cox.. LOL Please let me hear your feedback. Good or Bad. It will not hurt my feelings. P.S. I painted the eye lid when it closed to match her lips. They are usually pink lids. I have a bunch of these types of eyes in multiple sizes but only have Blue and Brown color. Aaron (Vegas)
They're like the eyes that close in porcielin dolls, they are weighted so that when you tilt the doll the eyelids either close or open. Personally, they creep me out. Alot. But the don't looks half bad (except the eyelasshes cause they're all blocky). I'm sure some other people would like to have these kinda eyes.
Hi Molly - These eyes are from the late 60 through the 70's! These are what you call sleep eyes. When you lay the doll down they close and when you stand her up they open. One of the gals on the boards posted some feedback in another thread about doing this so I thought I would try it and this is the outcome! I really don't mind them and they can be removed at any time. They have the same method of putty to hold them in. Aaron (Vegas) Thanks! I think they turned out pretty Cool. Aaron I think they turned out pretty Cool. I think if I worked at thrying to place them in better they might look better. I even thought about removing the eyelashes and putting new ones so that they went all the way like most fake lashes. It might allow the eye to close more and also it might look better. Aaron (Vegas) A person on the board told me about it and said it would be cool to have eyes that did this so I have these types of eyes from an old store that went under and I bought his eye machine and also all his eyes. So I can also replace eyes from vintage dolls with this machine. Aaron (Vegas) These eyes will not be for everyone. It's just Cool that we can change these dolls to anything we like and then they can be changed back. That is what I love about BJD's. It's fun to change them and then we can change them back if we want. Thanks for your Feedback. Aaron (Vegas)
I adore this idea! I would love to do this myself, but I can never find the right eyes for it (only the ones with the huge weight mechanism that would never fit into a BJD head). Yay for you pulling it off! And I agree with the idea of removing the plastic lashes and replacing them with normal fake ones, as I think it would look more natural. ^^
Thanks for your Feedback Squeekiekitty. I'm going to Cali on Thursday and Volks on Sunday so I will try it when I get back. (Removing the lashes and putting on face ones. Aaron
Okay this thread is ancient in internet-time, but on the off chance that OP is still here and active, I'd love to see pictures of these sleep eyes! The link in the original post is dead for me. I've been wanting to try sleep eyes in my bjd (and been wondering why they're not really a thing).
