Custom Plastic- 1:6 scale mature dolls & props/Scenes (ie customaction figures, hottoys or others)

Mar 29, 2019

    1. Anybody got some more realistic plastic or offtopic resin people? I have three and their robot friend now, having fallen into the 1:6 world thanks to @armeleia and their awesome Saint 1/6th headsculpt they sold. I also just love the posability and maturity of faces in this much more handle-able scale.

It's so much fun to dress them, build scene spaces for them or collect props because there's a LOT commercially available, (even if it took me an age to build a female outfit not oriented around "Male Gaze Sexy".)

Edit: I totally forgot him but besides the Star Wars 4, I've also got this boyo:

    2. Mirror mask! I love valentine.

    3. I have two realistic OT 1:6 guys. Ringtoy K, (Justice Priest) and sort of realistic, ha, Real Action Heroes L from Death Note. They join my Granado tiny boy's diorama I'm trying to build. Was thinking about an apartment but I think I'll try to build a cafe instead. I already have the Pub so something different will be nice.

    4. I love 1:6 figures! I have the Arkham Asylum Joker by Hot Toys. However, other than that I'm very picky, so despite loving the figures there's only a select few that I want to actually own.

...And unfortunately for me, those figures are still prototypes/haven't yet made it to store shelves! Waiting for QMX to open orders on figures they've shown prototypes of, and waiting for something from Big Chief Studios that they prototyped and began selling two years ago! (For aesthetics reasons, I'm sure I'll see some fellow DollShe crowd in this thread - hi! 1:6 figure waiting times sure do give DollShe a run for his money sometimes!)

    5. I started with 1:6 figures and them got an SD and now I have an MSD and am thinking that is best for me but I keep looking at the beautifully made and perfect fitting clothing and shoes I have for my 1:6 figures, plus all the accessories. I wish I could find things o easily for bigger dolls.

    6. 1:6 is one of my biggest passions besides anime and video games; it has been for a long time. Longer than I've been into BJD even, and that's been a whole lifetime (or so it seems to me!). So this post might get a bit... more like massive spam-mode. In order of oldest, then just floating heads.

Triad Toys Eva (lution) I think this was the one figure that made me return to 1:6 back in 2009-11, but I received the HT TrueType females first, because this figure had so many issues and was a nightmare in delays of release date and final result of the figure:

Hot Toys TrueType female Cuban and Caucasian on left, Triad Toys Otaku Lola on right (Limhwa Limho Mano in back, I wish he was 1:6 sometimes).

Hot Toys RE5 Chris Redfield S.T.A.R.S. version:

Hot Toys TTM19; I got a second head sculpt back when the carded figure was originally released and painted to be a custom Adam Jensen figure, but that project is still in limbo (finding nice male bodies is such a pain in any hobby)

      Hot Toys MGRR Raiden:

Hot Toys RE6 Leon S. Kennedy:

A second head sculpt of the above figure with the neck removed to fit on a body with a sculpted neck for a custom kitbash -- haven't found the right body yet:

Another version of Leon, a RE4 custom one, but he's is using a non-Leon head customized to look like him by me; it's a head sculpt of a real-life actor by (much earlier) Hot Toys, but the actor's name escapes me.

Hot Toys Kamui Gaiden, which I got parted only body and head sculpt when it first released to make a kitbashed assassin/ninja character (much like Kamui but I wasnot interested in the accessories and clothing choices the actual figure came with).:

This head sculpt is going to be either my cosplaying 2B or 9S from Nier: Automata:

These are older but not as realistic; my repainted Alagua with my repainted Triad Toys Raven hybrid on a Volks Neo Goh body.
This is how Raven looks now, I need to make better hair for him:

These following two are by a Taiwanese artist, they are a bit smaller than average 1:6 heads, so they look horrible on most available male 1:6 bodies.
what the sculpt looked like before I removed the sculpted hair and "eyepatch"

Tried salvaging the wig, but I think I'll just try making it again; fiber at this scale is a pain in the gut!

I own a bunch of other floating heads, but the only ones I have photos of are Playlord's Takeshi Kaneshiro, Very Cool Catch Me Assasin, and a second head sculpt of the SuperDuck Cyborg Cosplay above, which is tanner than the second one, which is actually the full-set I got to get the outfit as well...

    8. @Milk Bunny You win! Got it in one. His base was an old Volks NeoGo boy back in oh, 2009? I used to have a Helena, but she had issues with her sealant and her head got gummy so I had to toss it. Bad batch. I want to remake her. Still got the body- it's a 23cm Obitsu body, and I want to make her a more realistic head.

everybody else: Hi there! Oh such awesome dolls! I can't wait to see more.

Here's the Smuggler class girl in my Star Wars Four, as I am calling them. She hasn't got a name yet.

    9. I have two custom 1/6 guys! Hot Toys Bucky Barnes with his civilian Captain America Civil War look and an off brand Ian McKellen cosplaying Stanford Pines from Gravity Falls. I really need to make him a better pair of glasses...
I also have a 1/6 Coomodel skeleton I want to make a realistic Papyrus from Undertale but I've barely started on that so he still lives in the box.

    10. I was pointed to this thread by @Enzyme and I'm hoping that some of you who maybe have customized your Hot Toy figures (or anything in that realm I guess) have painted a clothing item or costume.

I have searched and found some painted Spider-mans, and they look great, but none of them are that shiny stuff that the Iron Spider version has...and I can't really ask that person questions as they seem to only be on FB, and I'm not, and they aren't very big on answering the questions asked anyway.

I'm tempted to do it anyway, but they're kind pricey for me to attempt and ruin.

    11. I have been using old fashioned acrylic paint and different finish clear coats on all sorts of these brands. The harder solid plastic like most of the parts are made out of take the paint quite well without staining. Softer parts might stain.

For a "cheaper" yet quality doll to practice on check discount stores, like Big Lots in the USA, for a brand called Power Team Elite. They're made of similar stuff to the other 1/6 guys, have great quality, and a great price if you feel like experimenting. Also you can part together guys and stuff online at 1/6 scale stores and auctions.

I have all sorts of brands of these guys and have made hybrids and customs if anyone has questions.

    12. I don't know how helpful my comments are going to be, but I have successfully painted with acrylics on vinyl and faux leather before. Hot Toys uses faux leather for most of their super hero outfits, so if that's what you want to customize, then acrylics will work. I've never tried customizing HT outfits myself, just similar fabrics if that makes any difference. I've also never tried removing the paint off faux leather, so I am not certain that it would be possible to fix, if things go wrong. I suppose you could always ask (or search for info) on one of the English speaking 1:6 forums, like OSW or SideShowCollectors. Good luck! (:

    13. Luckily I have no intention of doing anything to his actual body, just the costume. And the "legs" that come with the figure (which I'm assuming are hard plastic, so that should be easy enough to deal with). I may have to keep an eye out for a Big Lots (I have no idea where there even is one in my area) to look for those figures!

Thanks for the links! I'm definitely going to check them out.
I think if it works with similar fabric, there's no reason it might not work with HT. I was thinking fabric paint, but I'd rather use acrylic, so that's very helpful.

Part of me thinks I should just go for it, but that's so much $$ to spend if it doesn't work out. I've been able to find a lot of costume parts on eBay for other figures, but sadly no one seems to be selling Spider-man outfits XD or I'd just buy a used one to paint!

    14. Oh are those the guys the joker heads came from?? They look fabulous!

Well since I posted earlier I have mostly convinced myself to just order him and try it. I have the page up and all I have to do is add to cart. The more I look at it the more possible it seems. Finding him a head will probably be the hardest part? And really, he can just stay Spider-man forever, so a non-mask head isn't all that important.

I looked through both 1/6 forums and didn't find much. I joined Side Show Collectors, hoping I could ask, but it turns out I can't post or reply or search or do anything at all? The rules aren't informative so I don't know what I have to do in order to get to a posting place...so no help there. I think my best bet is to buy and hope for the best. Again, I am glad I'm almost at the end of the buying BJDs phase of this hobby lol I have more money to throw at figures.

    15. @VampireAngel13 Yes, the one in the front is the main body of Japan-esque Joker, the purple coat on the back one was also on Joker.
Fun characters really but I wanted to make toys for my clowns and these three looked the best to switch parts on.

    16. oh no I order an Iron Spider Hot Toy to try and paint it into another character. Oh no.
I don't believe he was a preorder either.

@SteamWitch I'm not sure I even know what the other joker is. Or was. They're both pretty cool looking with the other heads.

    17. Ninja Batman's foe Joker link to amiami.
I thought his body was pretty cool so I used it. Joker heads have so many more uses in your hands though. ;)

    18. I've been on SideShow for so long now, I don't recall if they had/have any rules to being able to post? I do recall they changed their rules so that only paying members could have sales threads a few years ago, but I don't recall anything about being able to post at all. That's really weird. I have seen a lot of people painting HT outfits, and recall seeing most using acrylics. I personally never used fabric paint, but I'm guessing it would be better if you want to wash the fabric. Having said that, I've painted all my life and all the fabrics I've accidentally stained with acrylics have never come off, so I'm not sure if the fabric paints would last longer. If you are looking for extra parts, some of the 1:6 shops that sell parted out figures, might have some. If the figure hasn't released yet, Asian sellers on eBay will be the first ones to get the figures parted out ones it is released. Most Western sellers will get the figures months after the figure is released, and some don't part them right away. Hope that helps a little, and good luck! (:

    19. ~derp totally forgot I did this~ See if a tutorial for a human catsuit/zentai suit/morph suit can help you make a doll version. That's what I ended up doing to make ninja and basic Spider-Man suits for my dolls. It's a great way to use up old or cheap t-shirts too.

    20. I am kind of excited to have the extra heads. I have a lot of parts, which will come in handy when I really start customizing action figures in the (hopefully near) future. Making new Jokers will probably be fun!

Thanks! I'll need it - I was right, Iron Spider was in stock and he's shipped already! I'm not used to getting them so fast. I only seem to do pre-orders these days.

But yeah I think I'll just go at it with acrylics. I'm used to those, I have them already and I'm sure they'll be fine.

I was complaining about the lack of being able to do anything on the SideShow forum, and a friend who used to moderate an art forum said she had to physically set privileges herself when new people joined...so maybe no one was on yesterday to do it. I'll check back eventually to see if anything changed. I only have two HTs....but I joined here with only one BJD. Besides I think I saw a thread for Marvel Legends and I am still on my "must have all Spider-mans" kick.

That's how my friend who makes my doll's clothes does it. For my big Superior Spider-man I'm going to design one to be printed. I don't want to paint a 70cm Spider suit with no guidelines XD I'd die.
Of course I just ordered his body from Dollshe, so it'll be about 10 years before I actually have to do it.

    21. There's also the Sentinel Iron Spider figure, which looks like it could potentially be an easier repaint if it's still available? Less pleather to deal with at any rate!

Ooh I have far far too many 1/6 scale figures... :sweat Mostly Hot Toys due to the licenses they keep snagging, but there's Kaustik Plastik, Sideshow, 1000toys, Phicen, and several third party figures... I need to do a huge shelf-space reorganisation soon though (Incoming 1/4 Scale Jareth + overflowing bookshelf means a lot of sorting out is needed before I can display my collection properly.) I'm eyeing up Blitzway's Jimi Hendrix with interest - I'm hoping that'll mean they snag a few more musical licenses. It'll be great to see a reputable company get ahold of that side of the market; especially after the mess that the scammers at Molecule8 left in their wake!

I'm currently attempting to kitbash a John Sheppard (of Stargate Atlantis fame), a job which would have been far easier a decade ago when the show was still airing - since there actually was a set of the correct military gear in 1/6 scale available at the time. Alas, no longer, so I've had to hunt down a close-enough tac vest, and scrounge up several close enough sets of pouches to get going. Still deciding on a headsculpt - if anyone has any suggestions there I'd welcome them! At the moment I've got a Triad Toys John Carter of Mars subbing in, but he's a wee bit too angular, and I'd need to resculpt the hair, which ulp!

    22. If you end up having to sculpt hair, I would love to see the progress! I have seen people on insta do it on 1/12 and they make it look so easy! I might have to do it myself for my incoming Spiderman, as Tom Holland's head will be useless to me and he'll need a new one. And I'm also having trouble locating one I like. It's not easy...good luck!

I can only use the MCU version of the Iron Spider...he comes with the 4 legs! Which is literally what I'm after XD The old-school one only has three (doesn't it? I thought it was only three), and they don't look right for what I want. Either way it's too late! He'll be here Wednesday. It shouldn't be hard (I hope)...The lines on their costumes are similar, so I can use the original ones as guides while I paint.

    23. Oh I see! Hah lol yeah you can really tell I've not followed the Spider-Man comics all that closely! Good luck with the paint job! It sounds like a very cool custom. (I've personally had some luck with heat-set fabric paint + a heat gun on pleather in the past myself, but... I really don't think I'd reccie it/risk it on Hot Toys' brand of pleather/on a figure with an outfit that you can't actually remove like Iron Spidey... Visible fumes/possibly smoke happened on my project - thank gods for respirators!)

Ah thanks! If I do end up sticking with Triad Toys John Carter I *might* end up just going with a guy I've commissioned to do a repaint/headsculpt mod in the past. But as he reccied to me; apparently Liquid Green Stuff is a bit of a game-changer. He used it to fix a hairline crack in the Bowie headsculpt of mine that he was rescuing from the ravages of the postal service/poor packaging when the sculptor shipped it out.

    24. Man am I glad I'm happy with my angry Tobey from Spider-Man 3 head on a Barrack Sergeant bod for my Spidey. When the costume is on all that matters to me is if they can move, thus the choice in body.

I do all my repairs with Apoxie Sculpt or air dry clay. Most of it is just hair styles or neck attaching but I've done some plastic surgery. It just takes a bit of practice to learn how to do.

I'm going to look in to that Liquid Green Stuff.

    25. I think that Liquid Green stuff is what most of the people I follow on instagram use for customs. It's green, for sure. I have only modded BJDs and use Milliput, but if I need to do any sculpting for figures I plan to try the Green Stuff.

I didn't follow them either until this year (unless you count my Venom phase in the 90s). I went in backwards. XD
Thank you! I hope it'll look good when I'm done. I don't think it'll be hard, just fiddly. So many straight lines. I'm not good at those.
yeah I don't want to use heat anywhere near him just in case. Especially since I've never used it before on anything else.

I hope we get to see pictures, whether you do it yourself or commission him. Progress photos are my favorite thing.

I don't know enough about 1/6 figures to change the bodies from what they came with...but I might just buy a random head and attempt the hair style to see if I can even do it. I haven't looked too many places for a new head, but from what I've seen I don't think I'll find one that works.

    26. Jumping back into this thread! Last time I posted, I mentioned that there were figures I was looking forward to from QMX but had no idea when they would be released.

I've since done some more research, and it seems like they show prototypes frequently and there's a whole backlog of figures that have been on the cards for several years and are no closer to production. I'm sure that's the standard, but it was a little disheartening for me. I don't feel like waiting around for years and years, for a figure that might never be made.

So... I have decided to get into it myself! I've reworked my collections instagram into somewhere to show my developing 3D work. I am specifically interested in 1:6 Star Trek figures, and I am currently working on a Saru (Star Trek: Discovery) head sculpt.

Here are some pictures - I'm not sure what the rules are in this particular thread, but I thought I'd stick to the one-picture thing just in case, so the others are in the spoiler. The head has printed beautifully so far with only a tiny issue with overhang on the chin, which was to be expected.

QMX possibly have their own Saru in the concept stage, but from what I've read, it seems unlikely to happen within at least the next decade. In addition, I have noticed an annoying trend among 1:6 manufacturers to place any head on the same small handful of body types. (For example, the Captain Georgiou prototype they have shown is too large in the bust area for the character, and it really does irk me. The Captain Picard I have from them seems quite tall for the character.) I am worried that they won't really do the character's body justice, so I am considering seeing if I can sculpt that too. One step at a time though, I'm just making sure that the head alone gets there for now.

Sculpting the heads myself is potentially opening up a whole new avenue for me though! They are small enough to do on my own 3D printer no issue (the above photos are standard resolution, it can print in significantly higher quality than that), and it's a good way to practice my 3D work. I may make my own Captain Georgiou, or I might make Captain Janeway!

If you want to see more/progress, here's the link to my 3D work instagram.

    27. Head swapping is actually quite easy, just make sure the neck types match or you have an adaptor. Is it a long neck like a Ken, a split/male plug/"Dragon" style, or a shoulder ball style? No adaptor, get out the self hardening modeling compound and paint.

Usually a bit of heat will soften things up enough for the head to come off. Unless you already do that to reroot fashion dolls it's a skill to practice with GI Joe and Power Team Elite. I've never broken a head but some neck parts are hard plastic that might crack. I've pieced together some neck adaptors that split at the seams.

    28. well. It arrived.

I spent all weekend working on him. Somehow I failed to post photos of where I ended up (so far. he's no where near done), but here are a couple progress photos. All taken with my phone and crappy.

Before I started the front spider and started adding lines. had to paint over all the shiny red with matte red, then back all the hands with black.

Then I started adding front spider and I lined the hands (omg the stress)

I do wish more of the costume lines were the same, but it's still closer (I think anyway) to what I ended up with than another Spider-Man costume would have been. The front spider is done, though I need to go over it again with more black. His feet ended up really good lol. This costume came with a few things that were needed to really do a good Superior Spider-Man - Mechanical spider legs, gauntlets and his "boots" all when repainted will really sell the character (why I had to go with the iron spider version). Even though his stupid shiny costume is a pain in my a$s. And I have no idea how to get around the joints of the spider legs. Or the figures joints really, there's already been cracking around his shoulders. I'm still so excited about it XD

Unfortunately his head attaches with magnets. So I guess my dream of a different "human" head is now dead. And I'll have a random unusable Tom Holland head floating around forever! bleh

    29. Good job on the suit.

For Tom's head find a body you like and glue a magnet or piece of metal to it to it. If it were me I'd built up a neck a bit and hide the metal/magnet in it. If you don't need regular Tom do an Umbrella version.

    30. yeah great work!
      and also YESSSSS DO IT

      • x 1
    31. Thank you both! He looks better with the whole spider on front.
      and
I didn't even want the Tom head but now I feel the need to do this.

    32. Awesome work so far, VampireAngel13! I would agree with the above comments of using a magnet if you want to make the Tom head work. If it's the type of head without a sculpted neck, you just have to glue in a magnet in there. If it's a head sculpt with a sculpted neck, you'll have to remove the neck first then glue the magnet, but it does work rather well. I used 1:6 hands with glued in pieces of metal wire, as a temporary solution to a BJD cospay, but magnets would have definitely made the connection much stronger (I didn't want to search for magnets that small at the time, to fit inside 1:6 hands). I look forward to seeing your project progress as you move along, it's looking really nice so far. (:

    33. Ooh very nice work on the costume - that custom paint job looks very neat indeed! Any chance of shots of it put together? Or is it still a WIP? Seconding (fourthsing lol?) the bung a magnet inside whichever headsculpt you decide on suggestion/sticking a bit of metal to another body lol, that sounds like it'll be a fun side project for that Tom Holland headsculpt. (There's also always the option of bunging the sculpt on Evilbay if you like the prices it fetches on there - people are almost always looking out for parts broken out)

Oh speaking of spare headsculpts - dammit - Threezero's generic white dude headsculpt for their T-45 armour looks pretty John Sheppardy to my eyes... But no one is parting that sucker out, and the aftermarket prices have crept up from Diecast Hot Toys prices into Holy ****! territory. Hrmm I need to keep hunting around - I've seen several generic realistic soldier type heads too that are close but no cigar (usually creepy eyes/too square jaw being the dealbreaker)

      • x 1
    34. Thank you!
I might give getting him a body a look later (when I'm out of projects and bored). For now I don't really have anything to do with the Tom head, so he'll just go in my action figure parts box.

I have the same thoughts on generic soldier guys too. I was looking at them for Spider-Man, but yeah. Either they aren't shaped quite right or they look too creepy. OR they resemble someone too much even though they're not supposed to? I have a hard time seeing actors as characters other than what they already play. I hope you can find one you like!

Thanks! He's still a WIP. I haven't had the time to touch him since Sunday (stupid full-time job. Always taking me away from my hobbies XD). Maybe tonight. Though it's also NCBD and I kind fo want to play video games. However
I have an Iron Spider Nendoroid on the way I was also going to paint into Superior Spiderman (this is what happens when they don't make enough merch of your favorites - I'm sure you all know. lol). I had preordered it months ago and it finally shipped, so I do need to get the HT guy done and out of the way so I can move on. The Nendoroid has an alternate head waiting already, so he at least can "remove" his mask. (also it's possible I have a bunch of Marvel Legend Spidermen laying around ready to be disassembled and reassembled into someone else. I moved on from working on 75 dolls at a time to this.)

    35. Don't get me started on the right body for some people and the money I've spent... The closest to Tom Holland's build I've found is the boy from the Skipper Babysitters but he's got Ken joints and tan skin. If I was going to cobble one together though I'd consider an Obitsu Slim with magnets in his feet. At least he's shorter and smaller than Ken and all those soldiers.

    36. he's back

I liked this picture XD I was trying the leg on him to see how it looked but I'd only painted the one at that point.

      BUT

The amount of details I still have to do is staggering, but he looks really close to finished! I don't have to paint the red joints at his wrists, because they're totally hidden by the gauntlets (not done at the time of this photo). The red paint on the joints of the spider legs does not fuse them together forever as I was afraid they might, so I'm good there. His back still isn't finished. And I need to do all the webbing lines. And lots of touchups. And I want to do some kind of detailing on the legs and maybe even the black on the body suit.

As a reader of many Superior Spider-Man comics (and the buyer of the expensive figure) I'm happy with how he's turned out so far!! Also I drew on him with sharpie. Shoot me, I'm dead.

    37. Y'all. I have more 1/6 fig questions.
Does anyone have that PHICEN TBLeague 1/6 M36? The really tall one? I think my clothing options are going to be super limited for him. Looking at lineups it seems like the really big difference will be torso length, so I'm wondering how "normal" sized clothes will fit him.

I have finally gotten around to modding the heads I have so I figure I should start looking for stuff for him. So far he's got...an eye patch on the way. That's it. I found some shoes, I just haven't ordered yet.

Also, I have a rough mold of a head that looks like I will have to mod to fit a body. Like, cut the end off and drill it out. Has anyone done that?

My Daft Punk have keychain heads. I carved out neck holes with a hand tool but a Dremel would work too. Thomas' neck is painted but Guy's is built up with some modeling compound.

I'd just recommend waiting until you have the body so you know what kind of connector you need.

    39. I bought him a suit so I'll be able to answer my own question. If it doesn't fit, I also got some sweat pants in his actual size...so at least he won't be totally naked.

After spending almost $200 on clothes (that might not even work), accessories and extra parts (so many hands) I'm wondering why I thought this would be cheaper than BJDs...?

    40. Outside of Ken clothes or what they came in I generally make what my 1/6 guys wear. It's what had me teach myself pattern drafting.

Prowl around and see if you can find Barbie and Ken patterns from the 80s-90s. Those are pretty big.

    41. I’m so excited there are other figure collectors here! I just brought home my figure grail, this 1/4 Joker by Hot Toys. He is so much fun to photograph I can’t stand it!

    42. oh wow!! I've been super-curious about this guy, I'm so happy you posted a pic! I'd love to see more. He looks fantastic! :D

Well I don't sew, so patterns are useless for me XD also I've since learned (from other owners of this body) that he can wear slim mini clothes. So Ken probably won't fit either.

      [IMG]TBLeague PL2018-M36A by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

The suit does not fit. I didn't bother with the shirt or jacket, it's not nearly as wide as his shoulders. Luckily have another body I forgot I owned that is not massive and can wear it. Sadly one of the snaps broke. So he can only wear it with the shirt unbuttoned. Apparently the shoes I ordered will be too small too. lol my luck is all bad. I'm much better at BJDs. And by much I mean barely.

I did order a pair of pants from an Etsy seller who makes them for this body, so he'll have those when they finally get here, but they make mostly sports wear (sweat pants, muscle shirts), so that's the only thing I'll be buying from them. Slim mini girl clothes here I come!

    43. Alas sorry my generic Phicens are the M33 and M30 at the moment. (Been eyeing up the 31 and 32 for a slim character - since the old problem of the Hot Toys slim looking significantly shorter than other bodies has reared it's head on a project of mine... Dammit anyone know of a slim body that isn't a pipsqueak?) uh - whilst it won't help with the height issue, if the M36 has similar shoulder-width to the 30 and 33 - I've managed to squeeze mine into cheapo generic Action Man stuff and similar.

Link with images (sorry yet to find a replacement hosting site post Flickr going you need to pay now on me!)
Jen on Instagram: “Thanks to @darrenbiggyrowe for your truly excellent paintwork! (And apologies for my terrible photos and hasty props... Though being fair…”

His pyjamas are a repurposed action man ww2 uniform, I think (removed the military markings ages ago sorry!) since the cut/colour was a close-enough match to his on stage outfit.

    44. The anatomically endowed Dollsfigure (nekked dollies) on the left with the dark nipples is pretty tall the other body is a True Type clone tumblr_nr8r5lozIC1tzb7h5o1_1280.jpg I use the DF for Kevin Backstreet Boy (clothed) who is tall and trim tumblr_nr8r5lozIC1tzb7h5o2_1280.jpg

Kumik on the far right is pretty tall. The others are a mix of Dragon and Ken clones.

    45. Ooh thanks for the info Dollykim! I'll have to check those out and see if I can find them over here.

Argh yeah - tall isn't really the thing I'm after here, just not Luke Skywalker/Spider-man/Marty McFly levels of short. I know footpeg extenders are an option too - but those things never seem to work quite right. I've been eyeing up the body my Big Chief Eight is on actually - that thing would probably suit being ported over to a Hot Toys slim height-wise, and the shoulders don't look as broad as a Hot Toys narrow-shoulder... I've got a fairly narrow featured headsculpt that just ends up looking a wee bit pinheaded on most broad-shouldered superhero build action figure bodies that it's compatible with

    46. I'm also looking for smaller/slimmer 1:6 male bodies, to use with 1:6 female head sculpts I want to use on male bodies. However, that's going to be a huge pain in the gut, because 1:6 action figures are actually more proportionate and thusly female head sculpts are actually much smaller than the males (unlike with most other dolls of any kind). I was hoping the Mattel MTM BMR Ken body would work, but it's way too big for the female heads I own. I was also hoping the new PureNeemo 27cm male body would work as plausible alternative, but sadly that's too tiny, and the Petworks one probably has a neck that's too narrow, but the shoulders seem as wide as the HT narrow shoulders, which again is too big for a female head sculpt. I'm starting to feel like hybridizing 1:6 female heads on male bodies is a no go. However, I don't want to lose all hope yet; my last resort would be to search for old Volks Neo EB Goh bodies, they are super expensive on eBay, have very narrow necks and are kind of rare but at least I can modify those. They are not short though, they are probably taller than most 1:6 male bodies, but I don't have enough of them to mod for all the 1:6 female heads I want to place on male bodies. They only came in one color as well, so color matching would be impossible for most 1:6 male head sculpts.

I don't believe there are other fashion-doll, or 1:6 alternatives to shorter or slimmer male bodies. It stinks that Volks discontinued their Dollfie line, at least they weren't as expensive as Petworks, and would have been easier to mod than a HT narrow shoulders body. Not to mention not as rare, but now they are probably rarer...

    47. Nekked dolls again tumblr_p3e23fCh8d1tzb7h5o1_1280.jpg
Obitsu Slim with a female rooted head, a Chinese Ken clone with a Dragon Style neck, a DML slender, and a Ken. My Slim is an older one and I think the new ones have longer bodies but he's got the neck plug for a girl head and fits some Barbie pants.
The clone and other guys tumblr_p67s08ADbd1tzb7h5o1_1280.jpg

The clones don't have the articulation of a Slim or the other 30 point guys but they are inexpensive and easy enough to find. I ordered a bunch just to give me spare bodies for my extra heads and they've worked out well for taller and thin built people like David Tennant and silver robot.

    48. The slimmer ken body definitely seems like it would be a good candidate for 1:6 female head sculpts. There are none that are articulated thus far, sadly. I am not a fan of Obitsu male bodies, so I kind of forgot about them, I don't own any myself. However, I feel like the necks are like Volks, way too narrow to work for 1:6 female head sculpts. I currently have one on an Volks Neo EB Goh, but it's too small overall; all body proportions are very tiny except for height. The neck is what bothers me the most, I could live with it being clothed all the time, and bulking it up with clothes but I don't like super thin necks when I use them for my more realistic head sculpts.

I ideally, I would love a 1:6 body that had the proportions as the PSed version of the Volks body here, but it doesn't exists, so... yeah...
This is what the body actually looks like, and it doesn't even match the HS, because Volks only made two colors but I only own the "pale" version (three of them).

When you mention "clone" bodies, do you mean "knockoff/fakes"? According to DoA's newer stated rule, you can't talk or discuss illegitimate toys of any sort, on any parts of the forum. I was always under the impression that was always the case, but now it is an official rule. I would be careful about linking to them even in photos, because it is a stated rule very obviously visible in the news section, from the home page. (:

    49. Yeah I'm leaning towards porting my Big Chief Eighth Doctor over onto the unclaimed shorter Hot Toys TTM22 slim (Well, unfinished mini-Bowie no.2 has a claim on it... so that'd mean acquiring another expensive TTM22 body at some point :doh), and seeing how the proportions of Eight's original body looks with that narrow-featured head before making any final decisions. (I think the change of factory worked, or I got lucky. My Eight doesn't suffer from loose joints or any of the other QC issues Big Chief is known for.) I'm definitely sticking more with 'action figure' territory than the 1/6 doll category (stupid as that distinction is lol!) in terms of finding easily compatible neck types/head types. I'm also eyeing Asmus's 'slim' muscular body, since I've got their short teen body, and that thing is pretty decently made, and Asmus has a lot of narrow-featured elves given they've got the LOTR license!

@Enzyme, I think there's a Ken 'Made to Move' out these days if that's poseable enough? The Barbie BMR1959 doll range includes at least two Kens on a pretty jointed looking body? Though yeah as of fairly recently there was no decent RAH/Neo Go body replacement - slim bodies just... haven't been a priority! It's frustrating as hell actually, for all that I'm extremely pleased with the morbidly obese male body that came out fairly recently - action figures are still mostly superheroes or nothing.

Oh I should really try and see if there's any Sideshow 'armoured' bodies floating around - those things were deliberately made pretty skinny so the clone/stormtrooper armour would look decent layered up on top of them, and they're compatible with the action figure style headsculpts.

    50. @Enzyme, could you order a pack of hobby base ball joints and articulate a ken body yourself?

    51. @Vetinari, I got the BMR159 made to move pale Ken for one of my heads, but it is too big. As a whole the proportions are way too broad, the neck would be no problem to mod, but the female head would look ridiculously pin headed on it. I think the slimmer version might work, based on DollyKim's photos (I don't own any slim Ken at the moment), but Mattel doesn't make those bodies with any articulation. At least, that I know of. I mostly collect 1:6 action figures based on Japanese video games or anime male characters, so I never really felt like I needed optional slimmer bodies, but then I got the stupid idea of getting female heads and I am not too much into collecting more female toys. I already own way too many fashion dolls. It's kind of something that I started quite a bit ago, but wasn't really planning bodies until Volks decided to stop their Dollfie line, which doesn't really work anyway, but at least was available and a highly articulated option. Now I want to get bodies for the growing collection of floating 1:6 female heads I've gotten over the years, and I can't find suitable bodies. Good luck with your body hybridizing. I haven't seen a lot of shorter and slimmer male bodies, but I would think given that most have unnecessarily long legs, it would be easier to shorten those. I don't know making them slimmer would be an easy feat. I'm kind of scared to try, but that might be my last resort. (:

@Sillypeach, I was thinking about doing that now that I've seen the nude slimmer Ken body. I wouldn't be able to mod a torso joint, but at least until they make slimmer 1:6 bodies, or there are more articulated fashion doll options, they might work as temporary bodies. They are inexpensive at least, that I could at least try and if I fail keep trying on the same body. I already repaired a Triad Toys Otaku body once, and it was rather easy, so I don't think it would be much harder to just chop arm and add ball joints -- I would need to get some joints though, I only own them in peachy color and black so far. Thanks for the suggestion. (:

    52. Have you tried the Creatable World or BTS doll bodies? They are slim and articulated. Not double-jointed, but still a far cry better than simply the five basic points on fashionista Kens. Creatable World is more child-like because it is intended as a young agender doll, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t have it as a slim male body.

    53. I don't think the Creatable World would work for me, because I don't want shorter bodies. I'm actually quite happy that Volks bodies were taller than average (old-school) 1:6 male bodies for a while. I just want somewhat slimmer than the HT narrow shoulders, so the heads don't look completely atrocious on a humongous/super-wide (by comparison) body, but I'm not looking for shorter bodies. The BTS ones might be an option for my paler heads, if they are not too short. Maybe I can find measurements or comparisons, just in case they are not right for my heads. I have no use for the dolls otherwise -- I don't want to be stuck with such particular fandom-doll for no reason.

Thanks for the suggestions, I kind of only collect a few brands of commercial toys, because I tend to hoard -- so I forget what else is already out there unless I am reminded of them. Mattel doesn't make the coolest toys around, but they are very sturdy and reputable (very rich) company (enough) to know their bodies can take some heavy "beating" (mods/play). They are made to be handled roughly after all -- I fear destroying the few Volks bodies I still own, they are super fragile, no joke! I don't mind butchering a few Mattel Ken for scientific purposes, they are easily replaceable. And I truly mean that, I'm not into being wasteful even when working with inexpensive toys, I love toys before loving customizing them (and I'm vegan, so wastefulness just because you can afford to, is kind of gross to me). (:

    54. BMR Ken next to a Fashionista manbun a9376887825af9ccfc4b7b425fbd28f7700a2b43.jpg BMR has a shorter neck and well defined muscles.
Creatable World is shorter than Barbie and doesn't have a waist. They're good for a prepubescent or FtM body. With a 21 cm 115811f029d20b5675d14ac4aefd499733dda60d.jpg The clothes fit my 25cm Obitsu girl well but are short on anyone taller.

I don't want to get started on bemoaning that Volks stopped making their EB line. As soon as I find the right body for someone they seem to stop making it or its ridiculously expensive.

    55. Creatable World dolls are taller than Barbie actually. Just... clarifying that haha. Pretty sure they are taller than BTS too. When I said “child-like”, I meant in proportions, not height.

    56. Thanks for the photos once again @DollyKim, those are very helpful! I think I'll try getting one of those slimmer build Ken, if all else fails. I wish Volks had more fans for their Dollfie line, they wouldn't have discontinued it if made good money for them. I guess when Obitsu is more affordable, they kind of lost even if their bodies were more aesthetically pleasing (at least to me they were). (:

@nattherat, I thought for sure the Createble World were shorter -- because of the size of their heads, they look really small/short. I guess I'll have to look for nude comparison photos. They look really child-like in terms of body shape however, I would like something a bit shapelier. I guess I can always modify them if they actually work. Although, their necks look like they are thinner than Barbie, which has always been my biggest pet peeve with female fashion dolls, and the reason I'm specifically looking for male bodies. I could modify a tall Barbie body to male, but the necks are freaking straws. Sadly the BTS body seems to be the Ever After High male, which is not proportioned like an actual human, I'm not a fan of it aesthetically. Thanks again for your help! n___n

    57. No prob. Creatable World were designed to be genderless and are shorter as they're children. This is an Obitsu 27 in CW clothes 81e03943ef8124a94c99eabe797202cfe96033db.jpg

The thin Kens are everywhere and come in several skin tones but don't have elbows and knees.

    58. I was able to find one single photo of the Creatable World nude doll next to a MTM Barbie, so yes, they are much shorter and indeed very child-like. From what I read they are 10", so an inch and a half shorter than average height Barbie. The bodies are very child-like, so I don't think they'll work for my 1:6 female heads. They look mature enough that the bodies would not work and the necks appear to be thinner or at least as thin as Barbie, so I guess I'll have to stick to the Ken and modify them to have joints. I was looking at the WorldBox AT011 body, I think I'll add that to my collection sine the aesthetics are to my liking, and hope it's slim enough to work, but I doubt it. It's not made in enough color ranges to work for most of my female sculpts, which were made for the paler silicone bodies, but at least a few of them are on the tanned side.

    59. Here is my current project, an Enterbay Derrick Rose body destined for my Seed Arts Saint00. I originally bought just the hands, and then the seller told me I could have the legs as well and when I asked what he intended to do with the body, he told me that it was broken and I could have it! Lots of snapped and re glued joints, so I am drilling it all out and stringing it with elastic instead.

currently on a cheap eBay body, not very nice to pose or look at.

Here is my other one, on a coomodel body. Very firm joints so he stands beautifully, and the plastic feels nice with a good tooth to it. But I may still upgrade it later...

I don’t suppose anyone knows of any other artists doing 1:6 scale headsculpts? I need to shell a character and I’m just not finding anything I like with the movie/real people based ones...
