I think most of my dolls have been impulse buys except for two or three. But I've been really happy with all of them so it doesn't really bother me. I'm just really thankful for layaway!
My only doll was an impulse buy. I had never seen her before when I found her being sold secondhand. She didn't fit any of my characters I had planned to shell, but she was so perfect for me, her face, her wings, colors, everything. I'm just happy I had the cash for her when I decided to look at secondhand bjds for sale.
So far, I only have one impulse doll - but, I imagine more will follow, once I have impulse money again.
I thought I never do an impulse buy, but I just saw Laney from Doll Chateau and one of her body option was the margarita body so I not lamented too much, and start a layaway on her. I really not plan to buy any doll in the near future, so from me that was an impulse buy. I am not an impulsive person. I must say I just surprised myself... That must be love at first sight or what...
If I am honest, all of my collection is basically one big impulse buy. None of my dolls have really been planned. My vampire dolls are perhaps the dolls chosen more scrupulously because I like certain aesthetic qualities of vampire sculpts that have an open mouth, but those are few and far between.
I don´t impulse buy pretty much anything. I really need to just have the time to think, dream and ruminate about a purchase before I commit to it. I like to take years (literally) to decide, but once I made my decision I want my item fast, and NOW. This fortunately means that - me being a naturally money-saving person - I pretty much always have the funds available to purchase the object of my desires. Have I missed out on things because I took my sweet time? Yes, definitely. I usually tell myself that if it had really wanted to be mine it would have waited for me. Or that we may find each other some other way. You may wonder if I have ever purchased limited dolls then. Yes, I actually have - it is stressful and I don´t like it. I take until near the end of the sale period and I usually ask those I trust about my decision - even if they always enable me anyway I have also made an unplanned purchase at a BJD convention before - but that was for a body that I was already planning to get and getting lucky that someone happened to be selling one.
I have about four impulse dolls now,I kind of hate that I do it but I love them so very much. One I bought outright because it was my grail.
All of my dolls end up as impulse purchases haha. I normally fall in love with a faceup or sculpt or something pretty quick and can’t help myself haha
Usually ones I find on ebay are impulses since legit ones don't seem to hang around for long before they're swiped! Hahaha bit of a adrenaline rush thats for sure.
I only have one impulse bought doll, I think. It helps that I don't really have that much money. If I did i'd definitely have more impulse dolls.
I like premeditating on my doll purchases, often for months. Most of my impulse buys were due to lotteries or special sales events. I'd say about 4 dolls in my collection were spur of the moment.
Just bought my second impulse doll. Both have been layaways, both have been animal tinies. #noragrets
only ever really did one impulse doll-- I bought an Impldoll Azalea, when she was first released as a limited doll, like...the day after she showed up for sale on Impldoll's site. I had no clear idea who I wanted her to be or how she fit with the rest of my (very planned) collection, and it backfired quite a bit. When she finally arrived, I didn't like her nearly as much in person, none of the ideas I'd concocted to style her with while I was waiting would stick, and I tried so many different experiments (modding, dyeing, spray-painting) in an effort to make her work that after a while she was too much of a mess for me to even bother trying to sell. I left her in a box in pieces for a couple of years, and just in the last few months I think I may have finally come up with a concept that will work for her...I may take her out again and tinker with her a bit this year. I generally do better planning out my whole collection ahead of time and then slowly acquiring all the planned components and building the specific cohesive collection I've designed. Every doll I've gotten that way has worked out just how I wanted them to and they're all still with me...whereas Impulse Girl has just been a 5 year headache and/or dust collector.
As a student I can't. I don't have a monthly income so not budgeting would kill me. Especially because I provide for myself xD
My 2 dolls (one still on layaway, should arrive next month, eeep!) are both impulse buys... I love my Lumina (Feeple60 Scarlett), and my Nitori with Black Cherry head, I'm kicking myself as one is SD and the other is MSD, and I didn't want to mix sizes! Admmitedly I love them both but yeah more clothes props etc for 2 sizes :/
I'm usually very short on money, so I can't make impulse purchases. But that's probably a good thing anyways, cause then I'd have a loooot of impulse dolls, even more than I could handle That also means if I actually do get to buy a doll, it'll be someone I've wanted and saved up for for a long time, which makes it a little extra special to me
Until now... only1. Oh, and i'm happy with him. It's a good purchase decision for me. I might do it again in the future.
This. The time between me discovered what BJDs were and buying the one that made me fall in love with them was really short. One came up on the second hand market and she had a gorgeous face up, body blushing, a wig and an outfit already, and it was just like - MINE. Normally when I see a sculpt I know really fast if I like it, then I look to see if I can buy it. Mostly if I don't buy it it's because I missed the preorder or they're sold out and I need to wait. I just trust my gut - if I like it but don't get that "must have" feeling, I don't buy. The most impulsey impulse buy was my Hamstar from Dear Mine Doll. I went past the table at a doll con and recognised some of the sculpts I'd seen online, including the axolotl which I eventually bought after a little deliberation. Then when they asked if I wanted anything else it was, "Um, and this hamster". No regrets, he's so cute.
That is true. This is pretty much how I feel about my own collection, and the reason why I consider my dollies pretty much one big impulse buy. I like my dolls, I love them, and they make me happy, but I really don't need them. Still, I regret nothing.
I really wish I could NOT impulse buy. x'D But unfortunately, I do A LOT of it. I envy those who can resist the temptations & stick to their original plans. What stinks for me, is that my tastes change sooo much and so quickly, so a lot of my impulse buys usually get resold. ;_;
I've never bought a doll on impulse before, I always look and think long and hard before I decide on buying a sculpt. However, that one impulse buy may definitely happen someday! :v
Well, I can add two more impulse buys to my list! In my defense, these were characters I was wanting to add “some day”. (And man, budget-wise I did NOT want to have any layaways this year at all!) But there they were...the perfect dolls, and big horking expensive SDs on top of it all as well! But what’s a gal to do? Plead with FF&D to let me have 2 layaways, that’s what!!! One is a Doll Chateau Gladys on the mechanical body to be my Chobit’s persocom OC, the other is a Luts Ju Hee in limited lavender skin to be my female wrestling character. I’m usually so good...but oh my aching budget!
One. It may have just been love at first sight, however. I love unicorn dolls and only had my Luts KDF Bory Moonlit Sing. But then I saw Illusion Garden's Unicorn Yuli and fell in love. By chance, the same day there was one listed on the MP here. I bought it on sight, but I probably shouldn't have as it was expensive and not planned. No regrets, however. He is gorgeous! Even if my budget is probably done for the year now.
Well, I've managed to buy four dolls this month. One is a small creature doll I won't get until 2021 but three are second hand human dolls that should get here in the next couple of weeks. I feel like they weren't quite as impulse-y as my initial dolls because none of them came out of nowhere - I'd already been wanting them for a while. For one I was waiting for a nice face up. For the second, she rarely appears on the market, so I decided to go for it. For the third, I fell in love with her face sculpt ages ago, and had begun obsessively checking the secondary market. I'm actually proud that I didn't jump on the first one I saw, as waiting got me what I wanted (blank doll at pretty much her original price). Still ... I'm hoping my favourite artists don't come out with more sculpts I like this year. There is another small creature doll I will get next week if it's available (it's going to a doll show, so it depends if there are any left), and there's one preorder I missed that I might pick up once the dolls are shipped. But otherwise ... I need to stop.
if i had enough money I know i would definitely impulse buy dolls lol , but thankfully I have to really think about that doll I want before buying. Id probably only impulse buy if the doll was limited or I feel like it would sell out soon.
I have one that I bought second hand and I really wish I had done more research, he just sits in a box all day I need to do something about him soon.
I think 3 for 3 Two of the heads I consider impulse buys as I don't remember considering the sculpts until I saw them for sale second hand. The bodies were bought intentionally to match however the Migidoll body feels like an impulse buy because Migidoll had a discount sale at the time. I even wrote on my instagram that I was gonna get him a Popodoll body! The YoSD was also bought because She was cute and discount (and so I could get a bonus Rabbit). My decisions in this hobby always seem dumb when I look back on them LOL
It's very hard not to impulse buy, especially if you have the money. Some dolls are limited and pre-order is given with short notice. Yes I have impulse bought many times. I don't have any regrets because I sell dolls often and sometimes it's really helpful to be able to see them and handle them.
I have only impulse bought one and I'm not sure if he counts. The sculpt had been discontinued a few months before I found out about it as he was a limited. Suddenly, two of him, fullset, came up for sale and I bought one instantly. I'd only known about him for a few days, but the last time I slept on a doll like him, I ended up waiting almost six years before seeing another. Wasn't going to let that happen again.
I have a hard love for SDCs, so if one pops up at a good price, somehow it ends up coming home to me. I currently have three impulse dolls, all SDC girls. One was a grail, though, but I had no plan to purchase her anytime soon. It just sorta happened. The others just wiggled into my heart....after a payday.
I bought a few this year. An Elf Chiwoo head, I had a WTB up for him, but only because I ended up with a body and that was the head that looked the best from my collection... but the colors were very off so I got an NS one. The Mad Rabbit from Miracle doll (but I have always had a thing for bunny dolls, I have several) Dollzone Tiny Carter - bought a few weeks ago from the MP. I've wanted one since they were released (I love Carters!) but never bought one, and one never surfaced for sale that was WS when I was in the place to buy - until now! Someday he'll get to me. Current mail being what it is he's taking forever!!
All my dolls are impulse buys I started with miku but then started buying more and more and now I have so many Dollfies and I’m still buying more I’m trying to find all the sailor scouts lol
I haven't managed to impulse buy a doll yet (both on topic and off topic dolls) but I have been dangerously close to doing it several times lol
I have a small handful of "impulse" dolls, picked up just because I liked the sculpt and figured I could work them into the collection character-wise later. Most of them still do get a little thought into how I might do that, though. The vast majority of my collection is pretty well planned out, with existing characters they're shelling, but there's something fun too about just seeing a sculpt, going for it, and working out who they are when they arrive!
Most of my dolls are list based impulse buys? I don't look sometimes when I buy someone I've been pining for. Being if I wanted them, I found them, I looked everywhere else once more because. Because. Then I smash the bid, add to cart, buy button hard! I can also say that there have been some dolls that aren't on the list that I bought anyway! haha! The only thing that stops me is unemployment.
All of them When I discovered bjd, I needed one no matter what. I chose the minifee Lishe because it felt like a good size to start and at the same time they were mature bodies, not children. I liked that. Then I needed a bigger one and Luts released the senior delfs, so I got the Abadon. Then Dollzone released petdolls (I think they were the first ones? I'm not sure) and of course I needed a petdoll, so I got the bunny. Then I wanted to do my own face-ups and I bought a head to practice (that I never used)... And then I stopped, but I'm sure I would have continued shopping impulsively if I hadn't given up the hobby.
I've bought lots of impulse dolls, most of them Yo-SD, but I didn't have a character for them and therefore, I always ended up selling them...
My PlumeDoll Luna was an impulse buy, but she’s the best impulse I ever had! I think it helped that she was a 1/12 scale pet doll, so the cost was lower - I wouldn’t impulse buy a 400-600$ doll, that’s for sure.
Just my Lati Yellow Sunny from the Doll Peddlar! It took me a week to decide. I usually like to stew on big purchases for several months beforehand.
Two of my three dolls that I have ordered were entirely impulse purchases. One head was second hand and a sculpt I really liked so I immediately contacted the seller and the other one I impulsively bought because I liked the grumpy look of the sculpt.
2 years later, I have Yui, and Amanda. The rest have all been sold... I haven’t stopped being impulsive though.
For my first doll, I did a lot of looking around. Mostly because I was a freshman in high school and didn't have a lot of cash. To be honest, I wish I had just saved up more and impulse bought a Dream of Doll since they are now no longer active online and I loved their dolls. Big regret! I recently got back into the hobby and I ordered a MNF Alicia Tan. Again after much deliberation on the sculpt. But just last week I impulse bought my first micro doll. It was listed with a few resin color defects but they were not horrible and I ordered him that night! I suddenly also had names popping in my head for him and I am looking forward to the day he arrives!
One or two have been total impulses. I usually like to think over a purchase, but sometimes opportunity strikes or I just really connect with a doll that's in stock/available and jump on it.
A few of them. Sometimes with impulse buys, I see a doll/sculpt I like, then I start thinking of ways they'd be styled. But, sometimes the waiting, due to layaways, or production time, I lose interest. Recently, I'm awaiting a doll I got on impulse. I've already thought about selling him unfortunately, but who knows, I might end up keeping him. I really need to buy bodies for my floating heads. It's hilarious, because, the list of ideal dolls is already long - I really shouldn't be impulsively buying.
It's mostly been impulse heads than full-on dolls in my experience. At least 6 of my heads in the two years I've gotten back into this hobby have been through pure impulse.
Depends on how you define impulse? Other than my first doll, who I dreamed of for months before I could afford him, and the doll I received as a gift, I think I've spent a week or less deliberating on the rest of them. A couple were truly "I see this doll, I want this doll, I miraculously have the money, and I will buy it THIS VERY SECOND," but most were still relatively impulsive.
Before now, all my dolls have been planned. But I will officially own three in about two weeks. RIP my wallet. First my friend sent me a link to a listing of a sales post for a Miracle Doll Vic 45cm over on instagram, and while that particular doll wasn't even on my radar, I fell in love immediately. His sharp-tooth grin was mischievous, while the faceup and body blushing were beautiful. I needed to own him. Flash forward to a week later, I get a notification from Etsy that an item I favorited was low in stock (I didn't even know it did that? I have intense FOMO. so that's awful and I hate it and I want to disable that feature immediately) and when I checked it was the BJD head sculpts of Hannibal and Will from the tv show Hannibal, so I impulse bought them. Then I had to find bodies to go with them, to which I wanted Volks SD13 for Will and Volks SD17 for Hannibal. I found someone in the marketplace selling a SD13, and after talking for a little it turned out they were considering selling one of their SD17s! So I bought that, too! And now I wait...
Among my BJDs? None. They're too expensive and too much of a time investment. The closest exception to that rule I have is my MYOU Silvia, and I'd been mooning over her and elf-eared-dolls in general for about six months previously. Among my play dolls? ...um... about half. Of about 18. (To be fair, though, those are much cheaper. One was literally $5! He'd retailed for twenty times that! I couldn't just leave him!)
I have a lot of impulse dolls. Majority of them are not BJDs but I do have one impulse BJD that I never planned to have and I bought her because she was in stock and I couldn't get her out of my head, it's my tan Minifee Rendia who I now love. I originally planned to just have 3 minifees because having more would be overwhelming, but she was too cute. The most impulsive doll in my collection.
Only one. I don't regret him, but it was a struggle to make me love him, as I was disappointed when I first saw him. I wouldn't take the risk twice.
The closest I have to an impulse doll is Aggi my dollzone scorpio (points to avatar) she was an event doll and at the time my sister was getting my help ordering a Big Dipper from dollzone and after seeing and falling head over heels for the scorpio sculpt I was quick to add the extra money to include her in the order.
I don't currently have any dolls that are impulse buys. I am the exact opposite of impulsive and need to be dragged into making decisions. If this was a thread on dolls you regret not buying, on the other hand, I have plenty of those. I do have wigs that I have impulse bought though.
I have always planned. If it doesn't suit it's on a list of Afters. I have bought a couple random impulse dolls though. It's never very often and I never know what to do with them.
