Modification Crystal Dragon Woman - LongNu - 龍女

Jan 28, 2018

    1. Okay!!

Hello doll people! n the spirit of running away from my problems (unemployment) via dolls, I have taken on a couple large doll projects.

This is my first: LongNu (龍女)

According to the Lotus Sutra in Buddhism, Long Nu is the Dragon woman, daughter of the dragon king. I aged her forward a little, but tried to keep her serene beauty and kindness.

"There is the daughter of the nāga king Sāgara who is only eight years old. She is wise; her faculties are sharp; and she also well knows all the faculties and deeds of sentient beings. She has attained the power of recollection....She has unhindered eloquence and thinks of sentient beings with as much compassion as if they were her own children. Her virtues are perfect. Her thoughts and explanations are subtle and extensive, merciful, and compassionate. She has a harmonious mind and has attained enlightenment."

I started with a Limited Vampire Edria from La Legende De Temps. Since I am her second owner, and she is a little older, her resin does have a microscopic bit of pitting, but overall she is in good shape; you would need a magnifying glass to find the pitting, and it is on wig covered areas.

I didn't want to harm her since she is limited, so any and all mods I am making on her are NON PERMANENT ONLY.

      Starting Point:

      Sculpting Horns:

First things first, Since she is a dragon woman, I have an idea to add a sort of crown of horns on her head, as well as a sort of gem structure - as if she were an earth spirit, created from the gems and jewels of the earth.

      Supplies Used:

      Step 1:

I took colors that seemed to work well together, and rolled them into tiny little ropes.

Then I used those ropes to make multi-colored bundles.

Then using a rolling motion on the table, I twist the bundle using one hand to roll the right side forward while the other hand rolls the rope back, creating a kind of spiral twist. When I am happy with the colors, I can go on to shaping the clay.

I use the flat bottom of this little bowl to roll the clay from this point on. it helps to reduce fingerprints, and create smooth even surfaces, without being as big and awkward as the rolling pin. holding it at a > angle to the table while rolling forms the horn points.

    2. I created a ton of horns to choose from and added holes for quartz crystals to fit into. I also sanded them a bit, but to be honest, probably not as much as I should have.

Sadly, that evening, I threw a holiday party and one of my friends got pretty drunk.....and tried to EAT the horns. YES. EAT. Soooo...I woke up the next day to find teeth marks in some of the horns. No one from that night is willing to admit that they ate baked sculpy.

That turned out to be relatively okay, since the more pale colors looked better anyways. (Or so I tell myself.) Her horns are not 100% perfectly smooth though. OH WELL.

As you can see int he image, I am using white color, low-temp hot glue to attach the horns to her head. The glue sticks are nice because it can peel off if you do not like it, and will also release with the help of rubbing alcohol. The white color helps the glue blend into the project, and the low temp is nice because I burn my fingers way less.

Now I am gluing on the crystals! I just bought bulk quartz crystal points of varying quality for about $9 USD for roughly a half Kilo.

    3. Glued on some of the crystals:

Then, adding on more crystals, and some mini gems from this cheap pair of dollar store earrings I found.

    4. Finally I added a faceup, gloss acrylic, and glitter. LOTS of glitter. Glitter hides many crafting sins, kid.

I'm not going to show my faceup process, because honestly I am not great at it, at it took like 8 re-do's and a metric ton of profanity.

The pearl nub at the back of her head is purely practical, since the weight of the horns tips back the head, and rubs away any sort of blushing or paint. I didn't want the resin to get hurt after a long time rubbing, so I added a pearl disk to act as a kick-stand of sorts.

    5. Holy mother of all that is good. This project went from 0 to 100 in a split second! This is the most intensely beautiful thing I've seen in a while! I especially love how overboard you went with the crystals, she really does look like a natural encrustment of gems.

    9. This looks amazing! I can't believe how well the crystals blend with the horns! It looks like a doll you'd see as the company display model so they could show off what a doll could look like. I also love the colors of the horns!

    12. It's already been said but what a beautiful and creative project, you have done an amazing job!

    13. Great project, definitely subscribing . My housemates are probably wondering why the f*ck I'm laughing my butt off..."tried to EAT the horns. YES. EAT. Soooo...I woke up the next day to find teeth marks in some of the horns. No one from that night is willing to admit that they ate baked sculpy."
I read that bit and started laughing like a mad woman, this is why I love the bjd community . Every now and then a project legend is born, this is that time...eat

My friends are why there are goofy warning labels on products.

    17. Holy cow! What a devine dragon this beautifull beast will be!

    18. The use of pale colors in the horns is MASTERFUL! So glad you went that way! The crystals and other embellishments compliment and coordinate with the horns as a unified whole. Your horn shape is perfect!
Brighter horn colors would be perfectly okay in a different project, of course.

Gotta ask: if you're putting this head on a body, what insights do you have for attaching a heavily modded head?

      Perfect work!:D

    19. Thank you!
I would have to glue suede the round area under her head to give extra grip, and string more tightly than usual. She will always be a little top heavy, but at last she wouldn’t be looking up all the time.
