Hey! I'm a spectacularly broke college student currently spending too much money on crafting supplies for my MSDs! I recently went to Joanns and did the "oooh this could be useful!" thing through the whole store. Fifty bucks later, I did not come home with a bed or a chair but a hodgepodge of random things, including yarn and a crochet hook. I told myself I'd crochet wig caps but honestly i am feeling a hammock? My girl lives on a open shelving unit so it'd be easy to make a hammock nice and sturdy, plus she could actually look like she has a spot to reside in, other than a sad, bare shelf. I think i bought worsted weight yarn and a H hook.
Ooh, a hammock is such a nice idea. I think I'll also make one. I think it's very easy to make one, just like a scarf. Do you know how to crochet (because you bought a hook)? I'd keep it very easy (see this, I don't know about English crocheting vocabulary). You could change the color though if you want, like making stripes. Or do embroidery.
I have done some basic crochet way back, I think I made granny squares and got bored so i moved to amigurimi! I have such a limited space that i figured a basic, kinda chunky hammock with an open stitch would sort of work as a simple chair for the time being. Might brave the sketchy, mask-lacking Dollar Tree for a few fairy lights and turn it into a little bedroom. What nice, open stitches are there in crochet? I'm feeling an almost macrame vibe with very airy stitching, I'll take a look at a few stitch dictionaries.
it's probably a bit pedantic, but a hammock would be netted rather than crocheted. I'm fairly sure I've seen a youtube where they make one.
Macrame hammocks are popular. You take rope and knot it in different patterns. I'm sure a macrame tutorial could be downsized and used for a doll. If you want to chrochet it I would use a single chrochet stitch with a very large hook so it's loose with spaces between the stitches and make a rectangle the size you need. You could then take two dowels and thread them through the holes on either end. Fringe on the sides would be really cute and make it look more like macrame.
What a great idea! In a picture I've seen a crocheted cat hammock integrated into a shelve where the cat could lie and sleep in, so it will be doable for BJDs. The stitch looked like one of the basic ones for very simple lace looks. Cotton yarn is quite sturdy for such projects, as it doesn't have much stretch. Otherwise the hammock will "grow" a lot when it holds something heavy. Might add a few comfy cushions while you're at it...^^
