I make those, but you don't need a pattern for that! Just start with thin bamboo crochet thread, which has a little bit of stretch to it. You can also use thinnest possible sock yarn you can find that has a bit of stretch. Yarn should be "0" in measurement. Use a color that will either match the skull or match the hair you intend to use. Crochet in the round. Make a magic ring, rd 1: sc 6 into your ring, do not turn rd 2: sc 2 into each st (12 sc). Close your magic ring. rd 3: sc 1 in first sc, sc 2 in next st, around (18 sc). rd 4. sc 1 in 1st st., sc 1 in next st., sc 2 in next st, around (24 sc). rd 5. sc 1 in 1st st, sc 1 in next st, sc 1 in next st, sc 2 in next st (30 sc). And you just continue in this manner, increasing gradually, measuring against your dolls' little bald skull until the wig cap reaches the desired diameter. When you get the desired diameter: next rd: sc in each sc around. repeat this round until the wig cap is the desired length. On the last round, you are going to tighten it up so that it will stretch over the head and yet cling on a bit. So you just decrease every third or fourth st on that last round, depending on the elasticity of your yarn. If it is very stretchy, you can decrease a bit more. If you are not using stretchy sock yarn or bamboo, then you cannot decrease much. Keep checking the fit as you go so that you get it perfect. Remember that it has to stop over the ears or it will not stay on. when you get to the ears, if you want, you can continue to go back and forth with sc in the back of the cap to make a place for the hair that falls over the nape of the neck. But you don't have to. Each cap can be unique to fit the hairstyle and doll you have. You can also use these little wig caps to thread hair into and make them into actual wigs. Please let me know how this works out for you.
Never thought to do this... thanks for posting! (a little late in replying... but your post is very useful!)
Oh man, this is perfect. Thank you for the pattern. Though I understand this thread is a bit old, does anyone have any finished result examples of this pattern with actual hair threading for wig creation?
Before I make a start on this pattern, could I ask if it's the USA single crochet etc... Or UK single crochet stitch???
