admittedly I am very new at crocheting, but I'm not sure how the whole "ch 3, 16 dc in ring, join to top of ch 3 with a slip st." part is supposed to work specifically, do I chain the three, then go down to the original 1st chain and continue circling around till I have 16 double stitches? and then how and where do I join to the 3 chains? I'm really confused Maybe I should just try a scarf
Hi Meladori, I think you have the idea, but I'll start from the beginning just in case: A slip stitch is basically where you insert your hook in a stitch, pull up a loop, and then pull that loop through the loop that is already on your hook. No actual stitch is made. So from the beginning.... First you chain 5, then slip stitch through the first chain you made. That is what gives you the ring to crochet in. Then you chain 3. This chain 3 is considered the first "stitch" in the round. Then you chain the required number of double crochets into the original chain 5 ring. After the last double crochet, slip stitch it to the top of the first chain 3 in the round. Voila! One complete round! Hope this helps - don't give up! :-]
