I have a female relative who does a lot of crochet and I asked if she could mock me up a simple beret. Instead she gave me a pattern, but when asked she says its for a doll, and doesn't give the size. So if anyone can crochet here's a pattern for a beret and reading the pattern i think it would do all sizes. I'm typing this out exactly, it makes no sense to me because i can't crochet. you need - Size 8 (4mm) crochet hook 20g dbl knit yarn Make 4 chn, join with ss. Make 3 tr (1st tr) and continue making trbles in a spiral motion until the edge of the beret measures 1in (2.5cm) larger than the doll's head Next row. 1 decrease in every other tr. Cast off. Make pompom and sew in place if wanted. Hope this helps someone and I'd love to see photos.
How nice of you to find this for us! My friend crochets. I will ask her to help me make one of these. Thanks, Susan
I crochet, and this pattern makes no sense to me. It does'nt say how MANY stitches in each round to do, just says spiral pattern. Please correct? Thanks, Tambra
The pattern is perfectly correct I believe.Im not good at reading crochet patterns(not because I cant but because I dont read carefully) but I do understand this one easily. You will not be joining any rounds, thats why it doesnt say how many stitches per round. You keep on going in a spiral so all stitches are basically one continuous piece. When you get to the last stitch where you would normally do a slip stitch, you just jump to the top of the next stitch and crochet as normal.I hope I made this clear enough.I think Ill have to give this pattern a try over the weekend. Thanks for posting it!!
Did anyone ever actually finish this pattern? I'm going to give it a try...see what I can come up with...
I'm assuming from seraphim's location that this pattern is written using British crochet terms, which differ slightly from American terms. A British treble crochet (tr, trble) is an American double crochet (dc). Thought it would be worth noting.
It's a fairly simple schematic to making berets and tams, personally I make mine (mostly human-sized) by crocheting a circle, with regular increases (ie first row is 2 in each stitch, second row increases every other stitch, third row every third stitch) until I get to the right size and start decreasing backwards; like if it's every ninth stitch increased, I do a row of one-in-one before a row decreasing every eighth and ninth stitch into one. The decreases do need to 'step it up' as it goes smaller, but only every second or third row gets a noted 'skip' in the count, if that makes sense... LIke after a row of decreasing every fifth one, if it's still too big and floppy try doing every third stitch in the next row. I just eyeball it, try a few in scrap yarn and you'll be able to eyeball it too.
I definitely think this beret is a must have accessory for my girls. Also, the pattern seems very simple to do. Thank you for posting the pattern!
