Row 1: ch 4, join to first ch to make a ring, ch 2, 9 hdc in ring (10 hdc) Join to top of ch 2
Row 2: ch 2, hdc in same place, 2 hdc in ea st around (20 hdc) join
Row 3: ch 2, hdc in same place, (hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) around, hdc in last st (30 hdc) join
Row 4: ch 2, hdc in same place, (hdc in ea of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around, end hdc in last 2 sts
(40 hdc) join
Row 5: ch2, hdc in same place, (hdc in ea of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around, end hdc in last 3 sts
(50 hdc) join
Row 6 ch 2, hdc in same place, (hdc in ea of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around, end hdc in last 4 sts
(60 hdc) join

Work in thread ends. Trim top center of beret with a pom-pom, or make a stem of ch 4, sc in ea ch,
and tie ends to inside of center of hat, working in thread ends
