Photography Critique on photos

Nov 4, 2015

    1. Those are the photos from my latest photo shoot and would love to get a critique on how I went to see how I am going with my photos

    2. Your dolls are very cute and nicely styled. I especially like the way you have positioned them in the second shot, it looks very natural. It seems as if your camera may be having a hard time adjusting to the light skin tones. I would suggest you take the pictures a bit farther back and then crop them, you will get better focus and color that way.

    3. I love the continuity of your doll's styling, they're all very sweet. Here's what I noticed in each photo:

      1. I love how their hands are posed and also how well you've set the mood. It may look better with the plants not going over their faces. Also experimenting with an angle above them would focus more on their faces than their feet. A less straight-and-still pose would break up the predictability of the positioning within the frame.
      2. I love how the subjects aren't central and are instead at varying places in the frame. You took the photo from a great, natural angle that really shows off their cute faces. The background is nice and neutral and the poses are natural. I'd add some contrast with a photo editor but that might just be my personal preference.
      3. The shot is nice and clear, with an interesting background and a beautiful doll. Bending his joints more might add some variety to the photo.
      4. I love how his cape is falling over one of his arms, it adds something extra to the whole thing. I'd maybe have taken it from a higher and closer angle, to really emphasis the face and his gorgeous eyes.
      5. They look like they're talking, which is great! Pulling some strands of their hair over the joint between the neck and head would create a more realistic look. I'd either turn their bodies more inward towards one another or make the heads not turn so drastically to the side as that is a painful pose to hold in real life and thus doesn't look very natural in photos.

I hope some of this is useful! :)

    4. Thanks, I will have to keep that in mind for next time, I haven't thought of that

It is helpful, I like how much thought you put into it and they are all good points to keep in mind for next time.

    5. Super cute! For the close up shots of the faces, I would recommend using a macro lens/setting for really crisp detail, and try playing around with lighting, both artificial and natural. Also, the rule of thirds is really important, so when things are off to the side of the frame, it creates more interest! Hope this helps!

    6. Hi Shortstuff, can you let me know what sort of camera you're using? I don't want to give any sort of advice that's beyond what you can do with your current equipment.
