Critique my faceups?

Jul 21, 2020

    1. These pictures are the oldest faceup to the most recent. The last photo may be a little harder to see, my apologies.

I already know I have some symmetry issues.

    2. Pros, from my perspective:
I'm in love with the way you do freckles! They look so natural and beautifully dotted on!
Lips are beautiful and nicely glossed!
      Eyebrows are nicely shaped!

      Cons, from my perspective:
Colors can be blended into the skin tone a little better
Lower lashes can be less stiff. I've heard that, to remedy this, you can paint the lower lashes upside down in small "V" shapes!
The white below the eyebrows is out of place in most of these. Using the eyebrow color mixed with more parts white may help!

All in all, your faceups look really nice and show that you do put some care, detail, and thought into what you are doing and I hope to see your improvements in the near future! <3

    3. I can definitely see improvement from the oldest to newest. The symmetry is pretty darn good actually! And I agree with above commenter, adorable freckles :)

I think you might benefit from getting smaller brushes for linework, as the upper eyelid lines and eyelashes are bulky. Also, if you are doing the eyeshadow with pastels, layers are your best friend. It takes several layers with sealing in between to get a bold color, but its worth it because it looks much smoother.

Not really a fan of that white line on the underside of the brows, but that may just be an artistic difference.

    4. I think I've seen faceup artists on youtube do something similar with the white below the eyebrows (Here's an example of what I'm thinking of, though it's a fashion doll faceup artist) but usually I see them blend it downwards towards the eye? Like more of a gradient as opposed to a bold line. Not sure how you'd do that (white pastel? fine white hatching?) but it would be worth a shot if you're looking to soften that highlight a bit.

I've also found that personally I tend to get more milage out of pastels for the eyebrows than lines... fewer/wider spaced eyebrow hairs with darker pastel on top tend to end up looking less painterly/chunky for me. Then I can have the appearance of big dark eyebrows without worrying about the eyebrow hairs getting busy or not being perfectly consistent.

I love the stylistic anime-ish blush lines on the nose and cheeks, super cute :whee:

    5. Are these in the order that you painted them? Big improvement from first to last, so are really improving. AS other have said I think the blending of colour is more of a problem then symmetry, but keep at it.

    6. I love it that you have your own style!!! this is amazing. Your freckles are very realistic and you really improved from your first to the latest.

fun fact I put white highlighter under my eyebrows on my own make-up.
