Criticism on face please

Mar 15, 2009

    1. Update - I have been playing with her face and body - here she is with where her head would sit on her neck - I would like to know what people think about her face mostly - any improvements or suggestions would be welcome. Also for her body - proportions and shape?

Hi would love some help on the face - its very difficult to get the kind of sweet wistful look I am aiming for. And is her head too .... blobby and bland? or too wide? sigh. All comments appreciated, thanks for looking[IMG]

    2. I think it would be easier to crit if you have a straight-on front and side picture so we can see how the features line up...
One thing that stands out is how short the neck looks, other than that, its odd because her face looks nicely shaped in the first two pictures, then looks much rounder in the third? I think its just the angles.

You're on the right track though, she's looking lovely :)

    3. hi Glimmer,

I really like her sweet face.... I agree with robocluck though - definitely make the neck longer and I think she will look better on the body.

    4. Thanks robocluck and patl - I have done a bit more and lengthened her neck - working on arms now, so will post some more soon :)

    5. She looks great so far :) I think something that will make the face look much more realistic is if you work on the nostrils a little bit. If you look in your mirror, your nose isn't really just one big thing. You've got the bridge of your nose in the middle, then the two nostrils to the side. Most people actually have slight creases between the bridge of their nose and their nostrils. So I think if you defined the nostrils a bit more from the rest of the nose, you'd get a much more elegant and realistic look! (noses really make the face!)

And I'm amazed by how symmetrical your eyes are (coming from a person who fails at symmetrical eyes lol)

Finally I LOVE her hips. For some reason I'm incredibly fond of girl dolls with nice big hips. Realistically your shoulders are supposed to be directly above your hips (aka about the same width) but I think that is a lovely stylistic and attractive choice. Besides, in real life people certainly have hips wider than their shoulders XD But just thought I'd mention it in case you think something is off later on

    6. I really think she's very good! Her hips are slightly wide but being a wide hipped person myself maybe that's not so bad. What I do see with a lot of people is that they make the whole lip region jut out from the face instead of intergrating it more into the face, but yours is not so bad and there are people who do have lips like that.

    7. I like her shape--it it sweet and roundish. I think though that you will find that when you do the face up that that is when the wistful expression will come out. My dolls with out face ups are really pretty bland..and depending on how they are painted the personaltiy comes out. Good work and I am looking forward to seeing when she looks like when finished ;0)
