Wearables Creating Wednesday; Minifee Project Journal

Mar 17, 2024

    1. I decided to start a project journal to help keep me motivated with this project as I have a tendency to start projects and then put them down for an undetermined amount of time (i.e. years.... forgotten while I've gone on to other projects that also end up abandoned :sigh).

I was obsessed with the Netflix show, but my attention has been getting pulled away by Avatar the Last Airbender/Korra... so I'm really trying to keep focused on this project :sweat

I'm also putting this under the wearables prefix just because I'll mostly be concentrating on her clothes to start with. I'm planning to also include when I make her eyes and redo her faceup, but that won't be for awhile.

Anyway.... onto the planned outfits and what I've gathered for supplies so far.

      Planned outfit #1: Nevermore Uniform
      - Skirt and Jacket Material [Need one more fabric for the hidden box pleat sections]
      - Undershirt Material :thumbup
      - Vest Material :thumbup
      - Tie Material [might have ? bias tape ??]
      - Stocking/sock Material [might have]
      - Shoe Material [need]

Planned outfit #2: Dress from Piranha scene
      - Alternative Material stand in for actual fabric :thumbup
      - Collar/cuffs Material :thumbup
      - Shoe Material [need]
      - Stocking Material [need ?]

Planned outfit #3: Car Dress with crocheted collar & Cuffs
      - Collar and Cuff Material :thumbup
      - Undershirt Material :thumbup
      - Crocheted overlay Material :thumbup
      - Base dress Material :thumbup
      - Stockings/Shoes ???

Planned outfit #4: Striped Shirt with cape & bow
      - Striped Fabric :thumbup
      - Bow [need]
      - White buttons :thumbup
      - Undershirt Fabric :thumbup
      - Pant Fabric :thumbup
      - Shoe Material [need]

Planned outfit #5: Striped shirt with oversized Hoodie
      - Striped Fabric :thumbup
      - Hoodie Material :thumbup
      - Sock Material [need]
      - Shoe Material [need]
      - Short Material [might have ?]

      Planned Coats etc:
      - Short Cropped jacket [maybe]
      - Japanese Flower coat [thinking about it]
      - Long Trench Coat [WANT to make]
      - Oversized Hoodies; 1 blk, 1 wht :thumbup
      - Puffy vest [maybe]

There are also other outfits from the show that I would love to make as well, but I'm trying to start with these so I don't end up buying a ton of material I won't get around to using. I also have material that I can use for her Rave'n dance dress, but it's not on the list because it's a lot of work. I want to focus on these first before I dive into making that dress :sweat

      -----------------------------

Other projects that go along with this:
      Making her SHOES
making her WIG [maybe more than one]
      Faceup/hand blushing etc

I'll be making other outfits for this doll as well since she's not meant to be Wednesday 24/7. She doesn't have a name yet though so I'll either refer to her as Wednesday or Ingrid (her sculpt name).

    2. Following with interest <3
Sounds like a great way to keep yourself motivated!! Will you post pictures too?

    3. Ooh, such a cool idea! I was really inspired to make some of the clothes from the Wednesday show. I really liked her checkered black and white vest. I'm excited to follow your progress because it sounds amazing!

    4. I do plan on posting photos. I just didn't have time to take any of the current things I have when I posted this, and I was waiting on some fabric. lol. I'll probably end up posting progress photos as I start to make things.

I am obsessed with her clothes and I want to make them all but that would be way too much for me to take on. lol. I would probably end up burning myself out trying to do everything :XD::sweat I do like her checkered outfits though so I'm kinda on the fence about making one or two of them.

    5. For the checkered vest, I think I want to crochet it, but I'll have to find light enough yarn for it. Oh darn, guess I have to go to the yarn store hahaha :D

    6. I don't know if you have the pattern yet, but if not... here ya go: Wednesday Addams Crochet Sweater Vest (Black and White Check Crocheted VEST )

This is the human sized pattern of course, so if you're gonna make it for dolls you'll have to adjust the sizing ;)

    7. I'm getting excited to start making these outfits soon:dance I bought 3.5 yards of fabric and just got shipping notices for all of it! I'll probably be starting with the car dress (outfit #3) first, since I have all of the materials for it except the shoes... I have no idea what shoes she wears with it though (still gotta do more research to dig that up :doh). Some of the fabric I got is for the oversized hoodies; so, I'll also be making outfit #4, and part of outfit #5, after finishing outfit #3.

    8. So I've drawn up a few messy sketches while I've been gathering supplies. Lots of scribbles and notes for later.:sweat

      Outfit #3

I'll post some photos of the fabrics I got later. I'm also planning to start some pattern drafting/mock-ups of outfit #3 soon. I still need to get a satin/zigzag foot, an ironing board/iron, and some different needles to use with knit fabrics as well.

    9. As promised... Here are some photos of the fabrics and such that I've bought so far.
Hoodie fabric. Might use the black for a pair of pants for outfit #4 as well.

Shirt fabric for outfit #4. I have some other black fabric that I'll probably end up using for the cape portion of this shirt.

Striped fabric for outfit #5, white broadcloth for the undershirt of outfit #3 and the collar/cuffs on outfit #2. This also includes the undershirt fabric for outfit #4 and some fabric that I'm probably going to end up using for stockings etc.

This is the fabric for outfit #1 and outfit #2... plus some plaid fabric for one of Wednesdays other outfits I'm thinking about making.

Some notions... the ribbon is a nice frilly black ribbon I got for possible use with her Rave'n dance dress.

This shows the crochet thread and satin for outfit #3, the gingham I'm thinking about using for her school jacket lining or another one of Wednesdays outfits, and then a fabric quarter I might use for a pair of shorts she wears, and some cheap vinyl type fabric for possible shoe use.

This is the yarn I'll be using to knit the vest that goes with her school uniform
      [IMG]

Bonus: Yarn for future Enid sweater
      [IMG]

I also have a bunch of muslin and I think some other broadcloth I'll be using for her school uniform undershirt as well.

    10. You're already full organized!! It will come out incredible :cheer

    11. Thanks :) I know I said I was going to start with outfit #3, but I've been wanting to start knitting the vest for her school uniform. lol. But I don't even have the undershirt made or anything yet XD

    12. I've added/am adding links to my milanote mood boards in the first post so you can see the inspiration/outfit details of each outfit that I'm making. I am in the process of researching pattern making so that I can draft my own patterns for each outfit. I was able to find a human size pattern on Etsy that will work for the piranha dress; however, the rest I'm going to have to create from scratch.

    13. Great project! :) Looking forward to seeing your Wednesday. (The show was so much fun!)

A tiny toy-piranha in a bag might be a cute accessory for the dress. :)

    14. Thanks! That's a cute idea. I might just do that or at least attempt it. I've never made a tiny fish before and I'm not sure if there are any small enough I could purchase. :sweat

    15. So just an update since I haven't posted any actual sewing yet! I just wanted to let everyone following this post know I'm still working on this project! I have dived head first into learning to draft-by-measurement to make patterns for these! I was going to try and work off of human sized patterns; however, I realized that it would be much easier imo to use Ingrid's measurements and make a bodice/sleeve/skirt/pant block and then reference available human patterns for the details of each outfit. I've never really looked into understanding how patterns were made before, but now that I am, it's much easier than I was thinking! I'm actually catching on to pattern drafting fairly quickly, which I was not expecting.

I have to take a second set of measurements (I missed a few crucial ones necessary for the blocks the first go round), but I'm hoping to have some concrete things to show soon! I'll probably end up posting my trial and error photos of creating the blocks too.

    16. Okay, you are seriously organized with your project. The most I do is sketch out what I am wanting before I start to draft the pattern and choose my fabrics. Or, I'll just dream up an idea and make my patterns, without a sketch, changing the concept here and there as I work.

I'm excited to see what you will be making as it comes together! :D

    17. I looked up 'toy piranha' on amazon and found one with these measurements: ‎2,6 x 1,26 x 1,57 cm. Kinda pricey for the size, though. (8,50€) I think Fimo could work nicely for a DIY-version.

Sorry for the late reply. ^^" Was reminded of this thread when I read Wednesday season 2 started filming.

    18. Super looking forward to how these turn out!

    19. Thanks! I'll have to check that out at some point. I kinda want to make one but haven't decided yet. So it's good that there is one available out there in case I decide I want to buy one instead. lol

Thanks! I've been busy the last couple weeks so my pattern drafting got delayed. I'm hoping to get my blocks started/mostly finished this week and then start working on fitting the muslin and correcting any issues necessary after that. Too much RL stuff going on all at once (we had my brother in law's family visiting from Wales for a week and they just went home last Tuesday :sweat and then we drove down to visit our mom for mother's day. It's been hectic!).

Thanks to those who have been following and commenting! It's been keeping me motivated to continue this instead of shoving it someplace and forgetting about it.:XD:

    20. So I finally got a bodice block drafted but haven't tested it out yet. I'm hoping to get a torso and pant block done soon as well. My goal is to take some pics of my progress this weekend after I've had a chance to cut the bodice block out and sew it up/try it on Ingrid. Then I'll be using it as a base to build the outfits with.

    21. Sorry I haven't posted in a long time! Some real life things have come up and I've had to put this project on hold while I'm trying to find a new place to live. I do still plan to finish this!

    22. I finally got an apartment! I'm still trying to get situated and setup my art room. But I'm hoping to get started on this again soon. I need to buy a desk and some organizers etc. But the current plan is to get back into working on this in the Spring.

    23. Still delayed on getting the art room/office setup due to funds (still dont have a desk x.x). But I do hope I can get things situated to get started on this again soon. Not exactly sure what I'll be doing for fabric if I need anymore since Joann's closed... but I think I have all the fabric I need to start/finish at least one of each outfit for this project.

      Edit 8/1/25:
I have a desk! I have to build it this weekend, but I'm one step closer to having the art room set up. I also got a drafting table for sketching, and a rolling drawer cart for storage. I picked out a book case and another low table for storage as well but haven't bought them yet. I'm also planning on getting another rolling file cabinet/table thing of some sort for my sewing machine so I can move it around my room when I need to do so. I'm sort of planning on getting two of the same (I have one that came with my desk) so I can put them together to make a bigger table in the middle of my room when necessary.

Sooo, the vision is there but not finalized yet. I kinda hate that it's taken this long to be able to do this, but it's such a great feeling to FINALLY(after years and years and years) have a dedicated art room/space to work on my art and other hobbies.

    24. Another update, not sewing related yet (sorry!) but my desk is built.... AND Wednesday has a wardrobe! I found it at Michael's in the Halloween sale stuff :dance It was 30% off. I just need to attach a little rod in the top for hangers... unless I decide to do something else for her clothes. But I'm currently thinking hangers so I can hang each outfit up in one piece. It's approximately 20" tall by 8.5" wide... with the top internal usable area of about 12" and the lower portion (likely to be used for shoes) of 4" in height. It's got about a 4" depth of usable space from back to front as well.
