Craving Older Cerberus Project scuplts, Looking for Info/Discussion.

Dec 11, 2016

    1. Let me say this first of all, this is not a "WTB" thread or anything. I am not looking to buy an EL second hand.
Just wondering if (Luts/Cerberus project/Fairyland) are ever going to re-release this beauty in a 60cm size again.

I am aware that there is something going one between them that is preventing his re-release.
Luts: Still has his sales page on their website but always marked as sold out.
Fairlyland: Has 3 versions of him available, but not the original 60cm sculpt.

This is not just EL but other Cerberus Project's dolls.

    2. The old CP sculpts are still hugely popular and greatly desired. The last time Fairyland released them, they "got too overwhelmed", thew a hissy fit, shut everything down and vowed not to do it again. Childish, inept, unprofessional... if they can't handle it, they should just give them back to Luts. THEY never had a problem handling mad rushes and wildly popular dolls.

    3. Honestly I am still so bitter about fairyland taking back all the delf scultps and not doing anything with them.
They know they can't handle orders! They keep releasing new lines then getting rid of them within a year, it's ridiculous!

If fairyland releases an SD doll or say they're gonna "temporarely discountinue a sculpt for maitenance" , get it right away because they will probably never do a second pre-order even if it's supposed to be a basic, non-limited item!

    4. Sadly, I dont believe that Any old self sculpts will be released by Luts any longer, or ever again. They stopped productions on them when CP left and Started Fairyland. I'm a huge fan of the delf they released when CP worked for them.
Fairyland has made SD size Els but I don't believe they are Delf size I think they're slightly larger. ( I could be wrong As I'm not a huge fairyland fan)

    5. It was implied above but not stated outright, so just to be clear: the sculptors who now work for/make up Fairyland are the people who created and still own the sculpts of most of the original Delf line, which is why Luts doesn't sell those sculpts anymore. So barring some new partnership between the two, Luts will never re-release them, unfortunately for us.

Fairyland has offered some of the original sculpts, or remade them (i.e. the new 60cm Soony who was I think an event head??) but as far as a regular rerelease... well... others above have already explained it pretty well. Fairyland on a whole does not seem keen on keeping up with a non-limited line, which is frustrating to deal with but of course their right as artists.

    6. I'm not sure why Luts continues to keep CP's Delfs on their site. To me they're doing it simply out of spite. But I can understand how it would be confusing to people who came into the hobby after the huge fallout between CP and Luts.

But CP is pretty stubborn, and although I wish they would release the original Delf line once again, I don't see them doing it. They seem more content with making smaller dolls now.

    7. ( Changed the title to include all of the CP's older sculpts. )

I think that it's a pity that Fairyland's business practices get people so riled up.
They make beautiful dolls but with what they are doing, they are creating a demand that they just can't keep up with. Or that's what I am seeing/reading.
The kind of sales they are doing (limited ect.) they have to rely on the more impulsive shoppers with funds to spend.

....And I am remembering the whole Mess a few years ago with Fairyland's quality not being up to standard.
Dolls where arriving from the factory with a bunch of problems with resin being thin or cracked and such.

      Again what can we do?

If we can convince them that the older scuplts are still in high demand. ( and there is, just check out all the 'WTB' in teh MP fourm.)
Maybe there is a way in which they could re-release them without getting overwhelmed.
Like say, having a monthly ordering period. with a limit on how many of a certain sculpt can be ordered per month.

    8. I believed they keep then on the site so people who buy them second hand can find where and when the sculps were release so they are not confused with the same fairy lands sculpts

    9. I do miss the old Delfs... I want a Delf Shiwoo for my hoard, but the second-hand prices can be crazy at times...

I'm still salty that they said YEARS AGO that they'd re-release all the old minifee heads with updated head magnets. Has that happened? NO. They re-released El, Lishe, and Shushu and then called it quits. And by "old minifee heads" I'm referring to 1-8 on their head sculpt list.
Meanwhile, they keep cranking out these new limiteds for CRAZY prices ($1000+ for a mini-sized centaur excuse me?).

Mini rant aside, back to the Delfs...

I think Cerberus Project, as a company, needs to evaluate their priorities. Do they want to do dolls or anime figures? If dolls, do they want standards and limiteds, or purely limiteds? They seem to be all over the place with doll sizes, too. They have 13 doll lines, not including the two collab lines at the top of the list. XP

Maybe if we email and bug them enough they'll bring them back? Probably not...
But a rush of orders CAN'T be what they're afraid of- because that's what's going on right now with their 800 fairy line things.

    10. Luts used to sell DELF size. (they now have a new line of delfs)
Delfs are not Fairyland. Fairyland calls them Feeples there's a huge difference.
CP used to work for luts, now works at fairyland. I believe a few of the old heads may still belong to luts to some extent or they just decided they woundnt rerelease them because of copy right issues with Luts.
Cerberus is a sculptor/group of sculptors not a company. The figures I believe are a side project out side of the bjd hobby. And Like ring doll who the sculptor is also a cosplayer and fashion designer. Artists have many things they like to do. Why limit themselves to one thing.

    11. @fusion_midnight
I know who CP is. I remember the Luts-CP split very well. I've been in the hobby for over 10 years...

I edited my post because I misread the initial question. I thought the OP was asking about why FL had listed Feeple 60 Els for sale or something. It went over my head that they meant minifee, littlefee, and pukifee.

And I was saying maybe they should limit themselves because if they're freaking out about a multitude of orders, maybe they should limit how many things they're doing. That's why I brought up the figure sculpting.

    12. Thats ok I wasn't sure what you were confused about.

They always have so many orders Personally I don't think they'd be so flooded if everything wasn't super limited. But They limit them selves to a hight volume of orders then have almost no quality control. I really think they need to work on processing orders. I do however also like the Delf size to the Feeple size more. But I have both. I do miss the old sculpts too. but I doubt they'd make any of them available again

    13. @fusion_midnight I agree with you that their QC is utter garbage. They used to send out a few bad dolls here and there, but then they took on the workload of limiteds- so all those outfits, fantasy parts, makeup, etc- and basically dug themselves a grave, especially every holiday season. They really need to just have standard releases with occasional gift heads/accessories...

Is there a difference between the Delf body and the Feeple 60 body? I always thought that was the closest to the old Delf body but with updated jointing.

And with Luts somehow holding on to the "Delf" name, it appears CP/FL still release old sculpts as long as they rename them, like Ital = Breakaway + a scar mod. And then they sometimes release an old Delf sculpt with a mod (i.e. elf ears) to be one of the "Juri" sculpts. Or when they first opened Fairyland and sold the Feeple70, they had "A Head" which was a Moon dreaming vamp head.

So it seems like they could re-release the old Delfs under a different name, but they seem to be sticking to the mini and below size category. Which stinks imo.

      • x 2
    14. yeah theres a really huge difference between the feeples and delfs also a huge difference betweent he F60 and Delfs tho theyre the same size.
yeah I think they have a few of them which they renamed. Think they may have done that to get away with the copy right. I'm not sure though.

    15. *creeps out of the shadows*

Firstly, can I just say it's really nice to hear that other people still remember the older sculpts with such fondness, and also, I recognise a few names in this thread from back in the day, also nice after years of wondering where everyone went!

Secondly, I have made it my hobbies work to go aorund collecting up old Delfs and hoarding them like a dragon with gold, so this warms my black little heart. I'm not the only one either, I know of at least 3 other collectors who are still regularly saving the old boys and girls, so they are at least still out there even if FL couldn't organise the proverbial drunken party in a brewery and Luts is still in full on denial mode about the whole situation.

Personally, I'm not fond of the FL F60's, I don't like the "shove every joint possible in" mentality and actually prefer my very precious type 1's and 2's from the Luts days, so it's quite possible I'm biased, but I would DEARLY LOVE Luts to get back the licenses for those original sculpts and reproduce them. There's something about the old casts that is just so much BETTER in my eyes and I have no idea what it is. Obviously this is all personal opinion and YMMV, but I and several other people I know are sat out here, on the very fringes of the hobby, patiently waiting for Luts to pick them back up and give us things like option parts and the like again.

      • x 10
    16. Hahaha yeah, if I sound bitter it is definitely because I AM. The old Delfs still are and ever will be my favorite dolls and it absolutely breaks my heart that there is no good reason they aren't around anymore.

      • x 5
    17. This is just my opinion, but I like the old sculpts better because they were hand sculpted, instead of FL's perfectly symmetrical CG. The old ones have more life to them.

      • x 7
    18. It's not just their old sculpts that CP has abandoned, they seem really against re-releasing certain lines in general like the 60cm boys. Male and 60cm was their bread and butter in the old days, I am sure they could be good sellers again, it seems there is something other then market demand driving their sales decisions, but what, I don't know.

I feel like i'm winding down on doll purchases these days, I would really a Lunualla and Mirwen on feeple 60 non-muscular (this version is so hard to find secondhand) boy body before I call it quits, but it may not happen.

    19. @Lulu I'm also very fond of the old CP body. I may not have a Delf, but I know the original minifees were sculpted to be the 45cm equivalent of the body, and I love the B-line body so much. It's so aesthetically pleasing to look at imo. And I agree about the "jointing everything" trend. I honestly can't stand the A-line minifee boy body, so I can't imagine what I'd do with an SD-sized Feeple one.

I feel like the BJD hobby has taken a turn in what sells and what doesn't. It seems really tall, manly, realistic, and really dainty are what's "in" these days. (looking at you Granado boys and all those curvy girl artist sculpts).
So the older, simple "big eyes" "anime-ish" aesthetic of older dolls seems to be no longer in-favor. :(

    20. @Wolfie Pie I believe you and I were in the first wave of people to buy MNF shiwoo's back in the day (Trys is still with me, 10 years old, still going strong!), and we own the same vintage boys still as a result. I think I can safely say that body remains my favourite MSD ever, the Delf remains my favourite SD ever, I'm clinging to the concept that since no one else wants any of these beauties now, there's more for those of us who do!

Don't get me wrong, the realism trend is lovely to look at, and I think they're beautiful, but they don't gut punch me the way the CP lot do, who knows why!

      • x 5
    21. @Lulu Omigosh yes! I remember Trys! Shiwoo just celebrated his 10th birthday with me as well! I do think we got them around the same time, from Luts. :D

I'm so frustrated FL got rid of the B-line body as an a la carte option. They now call the old A-line non-muscular body the B-line instead. XP It really seems like they're trying to get rid of their old style all together.

I wish there was a list of the different sculptors who are part of CP. I want to know if the artist(s) who created the original Delf line are even still with CP, or if it's new members of the circle doing the sculpting these days. Cause CP is also credited to have sculpted Kid Delfs Woori and Ttori, though those two look more like the other kid delfs of their time and less like the Delf line.

    22. Oh, this thread is bringing back some serious feels. TnT I would *love* to see the old CP/Luts sculpts back, because there are a few of the girls I loved and didn't get, and the old Type 1 Mature and Girl bodies are some of my all-time favorites, even with some of their posing quirks. (Kicky legs of dooooooooooooom!) At any rate, you will have to pry my Lishe out of my cold, dead hands.

We've got a lot of the old CP/Luts sculpts in our family, and there is definitely a certain something there that seems lacking in the newer FL sculpts, even the MNF ones. (I have a Ruth, but man, I couldn't stand that A-Line body.) They have an expressiveness that the newer sculpts just don't have, and a versatility.

@Wolfie Pie -- Doesn't Luts lore hold that Rainman of Elfdoll was the original sculptor of Ttori? And that was part of the reason that Ttori wasn't included in the CP/Luts/Fairyland debacle? My ancient and creaky memory might be playing tricks on me, so if someone remembers more accurately, please do correct!!

      • x 1
    23. Ah, the question of the CP/Delfs.... I hate to say it, but I doubt we'll ever see some of those sculpts again. The only full-sized dolls that Fairyland is interested in producing these days are pouty little bow-legged Moe girls. They just don't *do* boys anymore, and the non-Moe F60s of either gender seem to have gone the way of the earlier F70 line.

I still have my old CP/Delf crew after all these years, and would have loved to add an F60 Karsh and a Normal skinned replacement for my long-sold-on white resin F70 Vampire Moon head to the collection... But no dice.

So, I moved on. CP used to be a favorite of mine, but these days I pretty much find myself shrugging and saying "Nope. Still not into duck-faced frilly-puffs." There are more interesting fish in the sea.

    24. @Osaka Oooh was it Rainman from Elfdoll who made Ttori? I remember looking into who sculpted what for the deviant art group I helped run (CP Haven) and I was told Woori and Ttori were the only (old) Kid Delfs that were sculpted by CP. I just went on Luts' site to double check and ohohoho what is this???

Kid Delf WOORI- Designed, sculpted by LUTS ORIGINAL CREATORS TEAM.

      Who's telling the truth now???

So I scrolled all the way to the bottom and BAM!

Model Designed by: Kang Ryong (C.P)
      Sculpted by: Cerberus Project TM.

However, Ttori doesn't have that little text at the bottom of his page. Just the designed and sculpted by Luts. Hmmmmmm...

Anyways... back to the plain Delfs.

@Brightfires you just hit the nail on the head with your description of current CP/FL! The agape mouths and overly curved legs are just so strange. They really have boycotted all boys. Heh heh that's kind of a pun. P:

But also, I hadn't noticed before cause I don't browse Luts too often, the Delf line is currently active? There's a type 4 body that actually looks similar to the original? It only has a waist joint, but double jointed elbows and knees. And there are the El grabby hands on the boy body as well.

    25. Luts Delfs are petty much on slightly reworked old bodies, but have in-house Luts head-sculpts with s-hooks rather than CP heads with connector pieces. The resin colors are also different. They match the colors of the other Luts lines rather than CP's.

    26. @Brightfires Ah, so they kept the old body and are just using it for their new head sculpts and resin colors. Makes sense.

    27. @Wolfie Pie I remember Shiwoo too! Nice to know some of them stayed with their original owners, isn't it?! :)

I must admit, I didn't know FL had actually discontinued the B line altogether, that...is just sad. They're so desperate to eradicate any hint of their past sculpts, you do have to wonder what happened there, but I doubt we'll ever find out the truth.

Luts are indeed still selling what they CALL a Delf, but having played with one, it's not a Delf as we know it, let's put it that way. They're MUCH lighter and as Brightfires says, the resin is no longer that lovely CP standard colour range, it's realskin, which, on the one hand, does mean TAN, but...yeah.

I'm still holding out hope for the re-do of the original resin and heads and I have to say, I'd prefer Luts to do it purely because FL genuinely seems incapable of coping with their own business. Honestly, I'm kinda surprised they've lasted this long given their lax as hell quality control, weird design strategy that ignores their past and this incessant new release scheme they have going on.

As for the sculptors, I was under the impression that all of them went to FL after the split, but that does seem to have been disproven since, because there's a lot of very DELF-Y looking companies popping up here and there now that I assume have some connection in there.

I dunno, sometimes I wonder if maybe a decade in, I just hit the point where my tastes are very firmly set in nostalgia, but then...I go and pick someone up from the doll cabinet and fall in love all over again with CP's old sculpts. Is ten years too short a time period to call it a 'classic'?! Maybe we just need to make enough noise to cause a resurgence in them again! Remember the El Army?! God knows there were enough of them out there to have been a LOT of people's first dolls, it cannot just be us that still owns these beauties, yet you never see them in pictures, or even spoken about. Seems to me like they're overdue a bit of love from the community again!

    28. This is something I've noticed as well, and it goes right in line with Dream of Doll folding just recently without so much as a peep. I like Iple boys too (and own and adore an SID Claude), but I also miss the older styles, and I totally get what @Lulu said about hoarding them like gold, because it's what I do with Angelregion minis. Or any old mold I see come up in the MP that I ever wanted, because I don't know when I'll see it again.

We've only got one old-school LUTS/CP boy, our elf Yder, and I always wanted to get him an El for a friend. I wasn't worried about finding one. Back then, it seemed like they'd be popping out Els and Lishes until the end of days; everybody had one and wanted two. Now, nothing.

(edit: here he is. Everybody post some pictures of your vintage CP dolls too? Even old pics. I miss seeing those pretty faces around. :( )

    29. I always felt like old CP/Luts were some of the prettiest dreaming dolls around--they managed to not look half-asleep, but merely thoughtful or even sly. ;) My dreaming Lishe is still the prettiest girl I own, hands down. (No offense to my Souldoll and Dollmore and Volks girls!) She was eye-modded slightly before I got her, and I evened them out a bit. I still want an open-eyed Lishe, even with the Pinky Swear of Doom hand.

Gosh, I love the way that resin mellows. <3 <3 <3

    30. While some of us definitely do still love the "old school", I think we need to be realistic about the way the hobby as a whole has changed since the Old Days...

There are an awful lot of newer BJD fans and collectors now who came into the doll-thing specifically looking for either hyper-realistic "masculine men" (Which our older, anime bishonen-style guys definitely ARE NOT great examples of-), quirky art dolls or girls representing a few very specific types of cute/pouty femininity. Old School stylized anime sculpts aren't the current New Hotness. They're just not what most of the community seems to be interested in anymore.

Keeping in mind that doll companies are businesses, if they want to turn a profit (Which is, after all, what a business exists to do-) they have to pay attention to those collecting trends and what the community as a whole is looking for. Sticking to their proverbial stylistic guns and only making what was popular ten years ago isn't going to keep a company solvent. There aren't enough Old School fanciers to support them. It only makes sense for companies to cater to current desires, rather we're talking about going all-in on hyper-realism, or on DC-style eccentricity or taking Fairyland's track of all-girly-girls-all-the-time.

I suspect a few of the Old School lines will survive. Luts seems to be doing reasonably well with their own sculpts. Crobi is still out there as far as I know, and Volks is apparently eternal... But the hobby as a whole just doesn't have that focus anymore. Times and tastes have changed, and new doll offerings have changed with them.

    31. I kind of wonder if the Fairyland/Cerberus Project artists themselves have changed their tastes too, and that is why they do not care to revisit their older works even if there is demand?

It sounds a bit silly and impetuous from a business perspective, but I can kind of understand it from an artist's perspective that they might feel their new work is improved over the old work and therefore they do not want to allow the old work the spotlight any more.

I kind of want an El... except I also want Fairyland to 3D scan him and shrink his giant melon head just a tad. Probably never happening, but hey.

    32. Alright, so maybe it's unrealistic to imagine for a moment that anyone but a select group of collectors from back in the day actually give a toss about the older sculpts, but hey, those of us that do clearly have a deep seated love for them! Never know, maybe seeing threads like this will catch the attention of some newer collectors and the old CP stuff can find a few new fans along the way.

What can I say, I live in eternal hope that one day, this hobby can be saved from the pit it's fallen into!

    33. o_0

As fond as I am of the older sculpts myself, I'd hardly call the current direction a "pit". That's unfair to the collectors who prefer those styles. To each their own and all that.

      • x 7
    34. I was actually referring to the charming state of confession blogs and the general lack of community, what other people collect is up to them and as I already stated, I love the realism stuff too, just not to own.

      • x 3
    35. I don't feel like the classic bjd style will never come back into fashion. I mean, honestly I don't even think it has gone away, at least on the other side of the Pacific it seems that the classic asian bjd style absolutely dominates. And overall, Volks and Fairyland and Switch and Soom remain hot while lots of relatively new companies like Foveo, Kanadoll, Miyadoll, and so on carry on in this style. I noticed Peaks Woods seems to have gradually gotten a lot more popular of late - and that's with all these very much big-eyed big-headed sculpts, so that look is still a moneymaker.

Even as the proportions have evolved, smaller head, not quite such huge eyes usually, still something like a Switch Waseon is not a realistic sculpt - while, of course, it is fairly removed from say CP Chiwoo, it's still solidly seated in that particular corner of the aesthetic range in my opinion.

I think it's more that the range of bjds has exploded in a multitude of different directions. So while Volks and old Delfs once dominated and defined the mainstream look of bjds, now it's like those classic asian doll-like bjds still have one piece of the pie, but the other slices go to realism and to western artdoll aesthetic and to pure anime aesthetic. And because there is more competition, more companies and more style variations, some dolls or whole companies do get left in the dust.

As far as bjd fandom culture goes, for sure Tumblr is an absolute cesspit and people who go on these stupid confession blogs should be ashamed of themselves. In fact I'd say Tumblr is a dumpster fire overall, for all fandoms, and seems to be inherently more interested in bitching about other people for a cheap ego trip rather than actually being a fan. What is this, middle school? Ugh. But Instagram and Flickr and Youtube are good places to enjoy bjds with other fans, in my experience they don't carry the drama and bs and it is still about sharing something positive with the world instead of figuring out rotten new reasons to crap on other people.

    36. I'd put Soom, Switch and even some of the more recent larger-scale Volks guys in the same "middle path" category as Iple and Spirit Doll, honestly. They're still relatively stylized sculpts rather than strictly realistic ones, but that stylization isn't as pronounced or anime-inspired as CP's dolls or the older Volks sculpts tended to be. They're worlds away from Granado or Venitu, but not quite in the same category as the Old School look, either.

That halfway-between style can be pretty appealing to collectors on both ends of the spectrum, so no surprise that they're popular. I find myself looking at a lot of dolls of that type these days.

      • x 1
    37. Even Granado, bastion of realism, has a couple of girls that are old school (Marion and Linca). I don't think the old style will go away completely. There are new BJD fans coming in to the hobby that may not have seen them, but like them once they're aware of them. At least I've seen several threads asking where to find that type of sculpt. :)

      • x 2
    38. I never said that I thought the stylized look was (or would become-) entirely extinct... It won't. Like I said, Luts and Crobi and Volks and such are still around. It's just not the most popular, center-of-the-dolly-universe style anymore.

When we're wondering why a company like Fairyland would abandon their older sculpts in favor of what's more popular right now, the changing preferences of the community at large are a factor.

    39. I agree, I think something like Switch is closer to the old CP look then it is to most of Iplehouse. The tastes of Asian collectors are perhaps less diverse then what you find on an English-speaking, global forum like this. It's the international BJD- scene has exploded so much that 'bjd-aesthetic' is barely a thing anymore. Then again, to be fair the older CP sculpts weren't totally uniform either. Something like DES was more stylised then Lu wen or Yder (wasn't he the odd one out due his narrow eyes and small head?) for example.

    40. My first bjd was a CP Luts Miyu (my Avatar girl) and I have a Shiwoo and and Elf El. While I don't photograph them like I do my Iples (who I use in photo stories) I keep my original gang near my computer and they hang out with me more. :XD:

    41. Must have been Yder. Luwen has a lightbulb head.

    42. Ah such nostalgia ^_^ I remember the days when the old school delfs were every very well! I still have my Yder who was my first doll and my Shiwoo but my tastes have changed since then. It's not that I don't like them anymore but my Yder's nose really bugs me now with how narrow and anime-like it is. I'm thinking of modding it to be wider and a bit less stylized.

    43. And then you have a company like Dollshe, who says he's stopping production of all his old dolls, and then changes his mind 35 times and then decides to release everyone in MINI SIZE??? The Dollshe boys were the original bishounen dolls of the BJD world, and Mr. Dollshe seems to have kept that in mind. I can't say much about the new girl dolls (I really don't like them), but the mini-size boys are still similar to their predecessors.

I think the Delfs would still find a market today... Heck, Bluefairy is still around, doing just fine, and they haven't changed aesthetically at all. XD

Perhaps I just want them to come back because I now have a steady income and could actually afford them...

    44. LuWen has an oddly-shaped head, but size-wise it's smaller then any of the early sculpts ('Found that out the hard way over here, trying to find a wig that would fit Jester. o_0)

If anyone's really curious (and it isn't raining cats and dogs tomorrow-) I can take a comparison picture. I have a LuWen and both Type 1 and Type 2 Yders.

The less-stylized, more narrow-eyed sculpt you guys are thinking of might have been Moon. His head isn't particularly small, but his features are definitely different from most of the other heads in the line.

    45. Lordy be, ain't that the damn truth. I have three old Delfs and while Yder's head is smaller than Shiwoo's it makes Lu-wen look positively pinheaded by comparison. Definitely smaller than the older sculpts, by quite a bit. I had to have Lian's wig altered to fit him properly.

I love my Delfs. It doesn't matter that they're super-stylized in comparison to the more realistic trend of more recent years. That's still where my tastes run, and I ain't sorry. I agree that there's a charm in the old CP sculpts that seems to be remarkably lacking these days. I still entertain the thought of tracking down an El one of these days; that's nostalgia talking though, because El was THE DOLL when I joined the hobby almost ten years ago.

    46. @Brightfires now that you mention it, 9-10 wigs are too big for Luwen but they used to fit my Lishe. I'd love to see your comparison pics if you have time for it. :)

    47. Here you go... 'Nothing fancy, since it was 33 degrees out there. BRR!

Endy the Yder and Jester the LuWen.

Endy's a Type 2, and like most of those guys, he's slightly smaller than the older Type 1s. (There are already comparison pictures around of the various Yder types-)

For what it's worth, looking at the wigs I usually keep them in, his is tagged as an 8-9. Hers is a 7-8.

    48. OK yes, I do see what you mean. Thanks!

    49. Lol, I remember the days of the "El Army" when it seemed that everyone plus their sister had one. While I had managed to acquire my grail-doll Elf El dreaming vampire. I want to get another El inthe future.

    50. IKR? The El Army, in full effect. So many Els. All the Els. One of the first dolls I was ever able to identify purely on sight because of how ubiquitous they were at the time. I don't have the foggiest what I'd DO with an El if I got one though. I have no characters that fit that mold and I try not to buy dolls that don't have a "purpose", if you know what I mean.

Still, though. So much nostalgia going along with that doll. I always did prefer Shiwoo over El though...which is probably why I own one of the former and not the latter. :XD:

    51. Oh yes, oh yess....

I wouldn't know either, I'd probably have him sent to my favorite face-up artist and he'd just be a doll for me to admire his prettiness.

      So many pretty Els

    52. I absolutely love the older CP sculpts (even made a facebook group for them since there wasn't one, which surprised me). El was one of the first BJDs I saw in 2006 and I fell in love, and my very first BJD was a Nanuri 2007. Since then, I've gotten more and a couple of the old FeePle 70s. Even though I've been leaning towards more realistic dolls lately, since that's what works for my existing characters, I still adore the older CP sculpts and pretty much want them all lol.

I do wish that Fairyland would bring them back, without any changes to their faces (love Breakaway, but something seemed off about Ital to me). I understand that most companies change with the times, but, imho Fairyland has a strong case of sameface going on and has for quite a while. With the older sculpts, they were each unique in their own ways, even the ones that had similar features. But, the newer sculpts are all very similar and just don't have the same magic that the old had (in my opinion).

    53. @LupusDarkmoon I totally agree. I can't stand all the sameface minifees these days. At least the old Delfs and their minifee versions were pretty recognizable and distinct.

    54. Lishe was the doll that got me into the hobby, back when she and DES and AES were new. I couldn't afford her at the time, and I didn't get one until much later (and then I didn't keep her!), but I still think she's one of the most classic sculpts out there! And I'm still regretting never getting a Miyu for myself!

I do think Fairyland has kept some of the old Delf aesthetic in their girl lines. I see a lot of the old line in Celine, and some of Lishe's mature look in Mirwen. But the bishonen style pretty-boy crown seems to have been taken by Switch and that look, and as dolls have gotten taller, a straight-up 60cm boy just seems too small for some people.

I don't think there's evidence of FL being perfectly symmetrical or computer sculpted. I have lots of respect for both types of sculptors, but recent FL heads have had documented asymmetries: Rin (rin face uneven???) and FLA60 (Fairyland FLA60 event head) for sure. I'm in the symmetrical camp and the asymmetries that FL has sometimes really put me off.

I think this might be some of what is going on! Also the CP sculptors seem to want to make lots of crazy tiny parts... Maybe they think bodies and animals are more fun than new heads?

I don't know if this helps you, but I have my Iden on a Feeple65 body because I need a taller doll, and I took pictures of El on the body as well. Maybe the bigger body helps to make the head look smaller?

    55. @snowgray, whoaaa thank you for that picture! It does look much better to me. And I already have a F65 body at home (hosting another classic melon-head, Volks Lucas), so... that is a dangerously feasible temptation.

I have a Lishe at home and am having trouble with her as well for the same reason. I hadn't minded the big head and thin neck of Delf girls in other people's photos, indeed it was thanks to Denali Wind's videos that I came to really covet the Delf girl body single joints and all, but in person it is not quite working for me. So perhaps it is time for a little head switcheroo this weekend. I don't want to give up on her (or potentially him) just yet, as I worry that I would not be able to find another Lishe if I changed my mind later. Is it just me or is it rather easier to find the boy Delfs than the girls?

    56. @Miri no, you're right. It is easier to find the boys on the MP as of late. I searched through the MP earlier and found a few Els, Moons, and Breakaways for sale, but not many (maybe like 2) girls.

    57. Seeing as I've been enjoying lurking in this thread, I thought perhaps I'd better join in.

      My username is TalithaX...

      ... And I horde Delfs.

(Seriously. Just check out the dolls listed in my profile... ;-) )

My first SD sized doll was a Delf (Redemption the Moon - chosen for the sheer simplicity of being a full set). My second was an El (because, hey, my Moon needed a friend!) and that was it... I've pretty much never looked back.

I've tried other dolls - but generally without any success. (Case in point, the Souldoll Kid I purchased as an 'experiment' arrived this week and... No. He's a fantastic doll, but he's not -- CP / Luts! -- for me.) To me, Delfs are my idea of BJD perfection. I don't care about the not so great posing and just adore them - the tiny feet that can fit into a lot of girl shoes, the hands that fit through most sleeves, the one piece torso that looks good under an open shirt, the big eyes and 'ski-jump' noses... Dolly perfection!

I went through a BJD-hiatus between 2010 & 2013 (burn out, I think) and although my thoughts turned occasionally to trying to sell my dolls, I kept them solely because -- albeit dusty and ignored -- I still found them aesthetically pleasing. Then, when I 'returned' and discovered that the Delfs had gone from Luts... OMG! I still, to this very day, feel relief at not having sold them.

While I think I may be in the minority here, I also have a number 'new' Delfs and think they're great. The Type 4 body looks exactly the same, but stands like a rock. (The resin colour is the biggest difference. When my first ones arrived I actually thought I'd ordered white skin by mistake - they was just that much paler than my older dolls!)

I've also got a F60 El - but to me he's not quite the same. I do like having a Sleeping El, though.

      TL;DR?

I like Delfs, both old and new - but I'm as loyal to the body as I am the sculpts, so for me personally, I'm not sure I'd be all that excited if Fairyland suddenly decided to re-release them*.

Plus, you know, I kind of like stumbling across them on the second hand market!

      * Should this ever happen of course, please don't quote me!

    58. I just got an elf el (one my grail dolls) and I feel like the older kids have so much more soul and life in them. I waited so long and I can not tell you how much I love him. I mean LOOK AT HIM!!! SO MUCH LOVE.

Now I pretty much (except for the odd kid only collect older dolls). Still loyal to volks, but this Elf El is rapidly a top favorite (my Juri is also very, VERY beloved). He doesn't have a name yet, which I'm having trouble with...

    59. I bet Lucas looks great on that body!!!

If you wanted to keep Lishe as a girl, @Stormlight had a Lishe on girl F65 body in the past, and I think it looks very nice! I'm hoping to mod my nYID body neck to fit my F60 Luka head (only been saying that for years!), and I think that's a good look as well (NSFW). @Maaru had a Juri06 head on the nYID girl body, also very cute! The Iplehouse NS resin is an okay match for NS CP dolls. I think this is a nice way to sort-of keep the old heads current, is to have the bodies get a little bigger as a lot of the SD-sized dolls have done. I do really wish Fairyland would put out a body bigger than the Feeple60 but smaller/less mature than the Feeple65, but I don't think they have any plans to do that.

For a while I don't think it was easier to find girls than boys (like in my Breakaway-obsessed phase, of course!), but currently that seems to be the case. Like I said I'm regretting never having a Miyu of my own, so I've been keeping my eyes peeled, fingers crossed, etc! ;)

I have a New Delf girl and I like her a lot, too! The body is similar enough that it's familiar and keeps the beautiful look of the Delf body, but the oblong elbow/knee joints do make a big difference. Sometimes her posing seems a little less... fluid? ... but still very pretty, and more solid. If only Luts could pull off an aesthetic more similar to the old Delfs! Ju Hee has been the only new Delf who spoke to me.

    60. Not everyone who loved the old Delfs stays away from the new ones. I have a Claus and a Nina in my crew and keep going back an looking at Joe, thinking he might be a good addition some day as well.

But that said, I just find the "New Delf" heads to be very... well... very *Luts* style-wise. It's a different look from CP's classic sculpts. Not a bad one, mind. Just different.
