Contest Couture Contest: Decades of Fashion!

Aug 1, 2014

    1. Amazing entries, all! And the winners are wonderful. But I'd like to mention two that stood out for me--#28 the 1950s "blooming roses" dress; the style and fabrics are just gorgeous. And #35 the 1960s dress with the lime tights; spot on and a perfect color combination. Couldn't help thinking of the two groupies in the movie Blow-Up.

I also want to applaud those sewing for the wide-hipped beauties--a challenge in itself--loved the results. And that little fox-faced fur!!

    2. Aww, thank you. :) #35 was mine.
I have some more pictures on my Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/127069765@N03/sets/72157646688040485/
She intends to keep it, so I will probably take more pictures at some point. lol

    3. I want to give major props to #45 ... knitting intarsia for a tiny is a major feat. (That looks cleaner than the intarsia I've knit for a full-grown human.) And the finishing on that wee sweater is incredible.

    4. Congratulations to all the winners - and to everyone who entered! They were all so wonderful! It was so enjoyable to see so much creativity, with all the decades portrayed in such interesting ways!

Mine was #6 by the way - the green walking suit from the 1910s. I just wish I'd had more time to photograph it - I had this idea to make a pretend deck railing and "Titanic" life buoy, but completely ran out of time - heh, it would have been fun, but so much for last minute ideas! :D

    5. morganatron, that was another one of my favorites. I want one in my size!

    6. you can always do the pictures now and do up a gallery thread

    7. First of all, Thank you for all of the participants, and everyone who voted! <3

Sorry, I've been out from computer from couple of days and writing and linking is kinda difficult with phone x'D! It might take a while before I can upload pictures to DoA but here are some extras of my entry on my tumblr : )

      Part 1 and Part 2

CloackedSchemer, Congrats! You won the spirit of the decade category! I must say that the first place in that category was deffinately yours! Nothing says 90's like Kurt Cobain and Nirvana <3

And same goes for Issadora, that outfit you made for 1900's was deffinately got the deserved first spot on the complexity and techincal skill category! <3 I loved everything in that outfit! <3

Silje, Your dress was also one that blew my mind. All that beading must have taken a while! I love how your model wears that dress! <3 Also thank you for your kind words for my outfit being one of your favorites! <3

Auntbear, You had absolutely most creative thought on your outfit, when you decided to crochet it! It is so beautiful dress!

Sharkyra, Are you for real!? That outfit also had undergarment!? How did you have all that time to make such a beautiful piece. It's so well made. The dress, the hat, the undergarment and you even found perfect shoes for it! I loved your entry too!

Chamilla, Thank you so much for your kind words! ^^ I thought that Yae's (my models name) round face really fitted my image of pin-up 50's! I'm glad you like her in the outfit! (Haha, I'm thinking if I'll be starting some sort of a shop, but it's still just a thought and in it's baby steps x'D)

Kielin, Your outfit was also one of my favorites! I love how simple, but fitting it was for the decade! The color, the stockings and the model <3 I also kinda guessed it was yours since you like Zinnas so much (she is a darling mold! <3) I sure hope your girl likes to wear that outfit!

cowpewter, whoa! You had that little time to whip up an entry! : O I'm amazed! I'm glad you got to enter tho! I think that it was most casual wear out of the bunch so it was for sure that almost everyone wore similar atleast once in that decade! ^^

morganatron, That green walking suit was awesome! I loved the jacket, all the detail, it must have taken so much time to get it fit that well! I was really impressed by that entry! <3 And you could always do that photoshoot later! I'd love to see that idea you had to happen! That outfit _needs_ it to be done! ^^

That's pretty much all Iknow for sure who made what, so here are some special praises for my other favorites which I couldn't otherwise compliment:

#1 , I loved the idea of a widower man! I also liked that it was one of the few male entrants! <3 I hope you post more photos of that outfit in use!

#5 Your dress was very lovely! I personally LOVE empire line on clothing and your model was a darling

#7, Gosh, that little paper boy was awesome! You managed to make so detailed outfit in such a small scale! <3 I wish a little guy like him brought me some papers to buy! ;___; I'd give him shoes!

#28, The picture you had for your entry was so pretty! I loved the atmosphere, the attitude and colors! <3

#30, Your entry idea was very cute! I love Audrey Hepburn! <3 Colors and transparent neckline were awesome!

#34, Aaa!! I also thought if I should go for this direction! This was such an iconic dress for the 60's! <3 I'm glad someone made it! ^^

#37, Waah! This was an awesome dress!! <3 Such happy and well made and thought design <3

#39, Make love, not war! You had most things going on in your design and you should be really proud of what you made <3

#40, In all of the simplicity, I love this one ^^

#43, Your entry was FIERCE! That was some true disco king right there! <3 Your idea was great and I also liked the way it turned out! ^^

#50, that coat dress looks so luxurious! I love the color and how it fits your doll ^^ It is so well made and looks like it was actual miniature of the decade! <3

#53, Your original idea really impressed me ^^ It was something honestly different and interesting! ^^

And lastly, THANKS for all of you! Your entries have been pleasure to watch : ) <3

    8. I found the Winner's Circle, but am having trouble finding photos of all the entries. Where are they please?

    9. The link is on page 10 of this thread (sorry can't link, I'm on my phone).

Maaru, thank you very much :). I actually finished everything in one week. I was on vacation though, so having much spare time sure helped a lot.

    10. Wow, those prices are almost enough to make me enter -- but the thought of utter humiliation prevents me!
      LOL! I can't sew worth a 'boo'!
The boy doll is great, but am super intriqued by the gals up top - great faces!!!

    11. Maaru, thank you so much! Your entry was amazing and your girl is gorgeous. :) I love that dress and one of my girls would love to wear it, except I don't have the skills to make something that nice! Haha congrats on the win!

    12. Thank you for the links to the entries - I'm so sorry I missed this before - so many great concepts, fabulous designs, and amazing execution! I'm in awe of the fantastic designers and seamstresses here!!

    13. I love, love, loved this contest! Congratulations to all of the winners and to each and every participant. It was almost impossible to vote for so few when so many deserved recognition. Wouldn't it be cool if all the entries where displayed at Dollism or something like that so we could walk by them and see how the century developed? I tried doing the triathlon too but dropped out after round two because this contest was where my heart was.

I didn't win but I was happy to see that my entry received some votes and my husband and kids liked what I came up with. I was #39 and probably am a flower child at heart. Wait, there's no probably there. I AM a flower child. Lol. Thank you for the kind comments here and for the votes I received. I feel it was a labor of love and I really liked my hat. My husband wants a male version of it! And my daughter wants a vest!

You're all so creative, talented and passionate. I am honored to be in your company.

    14. Thank you very much! Even though I was quite busy I couldn't let this contest go, 'cause the "I'll use her to learn how to properly sew and some fashion hystory" was the excuse with wich I decided to shell the money to buy my firs bjd (althought i pined on them for 2-3 years before).
The outfit is more "ispired from" than really hystorically accurate, but I quite like the result despite the defects (and now my tinies finally have at least one shirt!!:XD:), and I'm very happy that other people like it too.

And congratulations on the good job to all participants, it was such a joy to be within such interesting and beautiful entries.

    15. Amazing entries! There were some seriously talented people in this contest!

Mine was entry number 3, the blue gown in the 1900s category. I have three mini photoshoots (with an antique doll parasol) here on my tumblr:

It's been fun to see who's been behind each lovely costume. Great work, everyone. :)

    16. i can't see it 'cause i don't have a tumblr account. could you maybe set up a gallery thread so we all can see please?
