Contest Couture Contest: Decades of Fashion!

God, this is so exciting! I'm just torn since it's already noon 24th here in europe so it's not untill late tomorrow or day after tomorrow when I get to see other entries! x D

I was doing the triathlon as well as this contest but had to drop out of it because I spent too much time on my outfit this past week. Once I completed my entry for the couture contest I only had a few hours left for the triathlon and what I was working on amounted to nothing more than scribbles and I had worked too hard on the first two challenges to enter a sloppy mess for the third one. But I'm really glad I bowed out of the triathlon! Because no matter how the voting goes, I loved every second that I spent on my outfit. It truly was a labor of love. I can't wait to see all of the entries. I'm prepared to be blown away!!!!

 

I'm bouncing up and down. I wanna see all of the pretty clothes!

I almost gave up, as of Friday I had pieces cut out and nothing more done, I was just too busy. But then there was a doll show yesterday morning and my husband said he'd take me and let me buy something--IF I completed my entry and submitted it! So it was a rush and ran into a couple of issues, but thanks to his encouragement (bribery?) I got it done in time (and we went to the doll show and as my reward for finishing, my newest girl now has her own American Girl doll. :P )

 

Ahh, I was hoping it would be today too! Ah well, just one more day to wait :P I can't wait to see all the different decades and I can't wait to show people mine *-* even though you won't know which is which xD I'm just so proud of it!! x3

I am excited to see who wins the guy doll he is gorgeous. Sorry I think he is david from dollshe. My mind isnt working very well I just worked two 12 hr shifts back to back.

 

Oh wow! It was tons of fun going through the entries and trying to guess each time period!! Some hit way closer to home and even though not technically the best, won my vote out of sheer nostalgia!! Congrats everyone!

Seriously, the details are incredible! Voting is so hard because you guys brought it out!

 

I'm floored at the ridiculous amount of talent on DOA. Wow, just wow. My jaw dropped when I saw several of the outfits. Um, can all of you talented individuals come live with me and sew my clothes? My cat is really friendly! (Can't promise the same of the husband).

 

Just saw them - wow. I'm having a major conflict though. If I'm trying to be as objective as possible about it, I can't say the ones I like best actually meet the voting criteria.... but.... I like them the best this is going to be hard...

 

I was in love with pretty much everything in that thread Q_____Q I was also kinda dissapointed that there weren't more! I wanted to see more! Encore! : D It was a hard choice but I'm happy that my most favorite outfits matcehd the criteria! It's a shame tho' there were so many other amazing things I would have wanted to give a vote too!

 

The entires were all very awesome!!! I expected a lot of entries for the 20's and 50's, and sure enough, there were a lot of great ones! Some looked like it was professionally made too!

Can't wait for the results and see who made what

I loved seeing all the wonderful entries...you guys are seriously talented! I found it difficult to vote for only four. There are so many deserving entries...I wish I could have voted for more!

 

It was very difficult to vote for only four. I am now super intimidated, though. I really don't feel like I brought out my very best in making my entry compared to others. o.O;

 

So many lovely entries. It was hard to pick four favourites.

 

I'm going to have to spend all day staring at these to pick my faves. I can't say there's a single one that's not nice! I'm going to really have to think about which ones specifically meet the judging criteria, because there's something I like about every single one!

I do have to say.....I'm kind of amused at how few boys there are. haha

great costumes everyone really wish I would have gone ahead and entered...I had a really awesome idea for punk 80s...drat. lol

 

There are really talented people here. I don't think I will remotely win but it was fun and exciting creating my outfit and that's important.

 

Well that's rather intimidating ;-; there are quite a few entries that just blow my mind, but it was fun either way !

 

Incredible work! And some awesome and unexpected choices! Now to go back and narrow down my top picks, which is going to be flippin' difficult.

Seriously! It's almost a shame that you couldn't pick one from each decade, because there are some really fabulous representations of every kind of fashion in there.

I swear I saw Elton John in one. Maybe I need to clean the glasses a bit.

I can't even begin to imagine how I'm going to vote here. Bravo to one and all - they're awesome!

 

That was fun! Everyone did awesome! It was hard to vote though because some of the ones I really liked didn't fit with the questions...I just liked them. But I think I am happy with my votes.

 

i found that too. in the end i just picked my top 4 favs then figured out what category i could stick them in for votes... apparently its a toss up in the voting on the other contests as to whether people do it that way or pick the the ones that fit the category best...

 

I'm one of those that picks my favourites and then fits them into the categories! However, in this one I had about ten favourite so I used the categories to help me narrow down my choices. I'm glad you were able to describe your ideas because one outfit I voted for was very simple but had a really interesting concept.

You all did really amazing work, I'm so impressed! I wish I'd had time to join even though I could never compete with all you guys

 

Me, too! I wonder if we're thinking of the same one. A type of garment I'd never heard of (or had a name to put to) until now. I absolutely adored it!

It helped me a lot to slot things under the categories as I went, and then narrow down from there. But oh my word, how hard it was to choose!

Here's a question: will all prizes be awarded? That is to say, will there be four winners?

 

Polyhymnia, I think that first post said that there are four winners, each get one doll. First place/most votes - first pick. Second place, second pick - untill the fourth winner : )

So many awesome entries! It really broke my heart that I could only vote for four, because so many of them deserve prizes.

I didn't enter any of the contests this year, so my contribution to the celebration is simply to admire everyone's work and conscientiously vote for each contest.

I had my eye on that dollshe but I definitely feel him slip away with how many amazing outfits went up, some things I saw was just like brilliant! Why did my lightbulb not go off also? ;-; until next year I suppose! But I have to say the 50s churned out some gorgeous dresses xD I want one or two in my size

 

Agreed, I loved looking at the dresses entered into the fifties and the twenties categories :-3

i posted links to the entries on the sewing, knitting, and crochet threads so more people would come see the outfits. i figured everyone deserved the recognition of having as many people see their outfits as possible!

 

man there were some seriously impressive entries to pick from!
I was really excited to see that there was in face someone else that thought of the same sort of thing that I'd wanted to enter with, had I not been too busy with triathlon madness, 'cause I wasn't sure that I'd see anyone go there.

Also, do we have a thread here on DoA where we could post more pictures of our entries after voting has closed? Like "this is how we made our couture entries, 2014 edition"? I have lots of in progress pictures that I'm going to share in my tumblr either way but it'd be nice to know if we could have thread like that where I could see everyones works! : ) in one thread so it'd be easy to see everyone!

 

It was a joy to sift through the entries, and I loved the historical theme. Congratulations to everyone for creating such wonderful outfits!

 

you could set up a gallery thread that people could put their pictures in. i wish i had progress pics, but i did most of my work sitting in the car waiting for my kids at camp, or late at night and the few pics i took didnt work out. id love to be able to show off the details of mine though, i couldnt fit everything into the collage.

 

I didn't take progress pix of mine. I did take several others during a full photoshoot that day that I thought were actually better than the ones I entered, but the poses didn't fit the criteria (they weren't full front, back or close up details). I'm so anxious to share the extra pix once it's all over!

 

I took a couple progress pics of the muslin (which kinda turned out better than the finished garment, but c'est la vie). But I was way too in the zone when sewing the actual garment to take many pics then. But I do have a whole folder of sketches, notes, and inspiration photos! When the results are up I'm going to post my project journal on my tumblr.

 

maybe we could each set up gallery threads with links to the other entries so it wouldn't take as long to load? then people could just go from one project to another

I think this is a great idea! I'd love to see progress pictures, especially because I don't sew and would love to see all the steps required to create an outfit.

The entries were amazing! I LOVED the Betty Draper-esque dresses in the 50s category. My favorite parts were the tiny embellishments some entries added. So detailed!

 

Once the contests have ended you will be free to discuss your entries here in this thread. The Events subforum is permanent, so you'll still be able to see everything here.

 

So can we post in progress pictures or links in this thread then? If I understood correct? : ) (after the voting has closed and winners announced?)
