50–65cm Dolls Coralreef Doll Jiu Er Mao 1/3 Girl Body (61.5cm) in Normal Pink

Oct 29, 2024

    1. Ordered this body on August 27th via Alice's Collections, it arrived here on October 28th, in only 2 months! So it beat the head that it will be hybrided with here, by about a month-and-a-half at least, I am thinking.

This is my first experience with Coralreef Doll, and this body has made me an immediate fan. No lie.

After doing some research for bodies for the incoming AcornDoll 1/3 Cha Cha head in "MIA Pink". I chose this body, mainly for details like the expressive and detailed hands, and its seemingly impressive posability-engineering. Resin compatibility we will have to wait and see, but I will blush the head to match, if it turns out it needs it.

It's incredible to me, how far engineering has come, in these 15 years since I have been collecting BJDs. This body is so, so good, I wish I had the funds to replace all my big girls' bodies with one!

Onto the slew of photos, I will likely need more than one post!

Just gorgeous hands. This is the resin in daylight and this photo reflects the true color with about 98% accuracy. It's a lovely hue!

Super sturdy stander, right out of her confines. Granted, this is without head weight attached, but it inspired confidence right away.

Posing pictures coming up in the next post!

    2. On to the main event: posability!
Color me very impressed and pleased! Those enormous hip peanuts, and her "short" ,for lack of a better term, buttocks, allow for incredible range of motion which I wish my DollsTown 18-year girl body would have. I will still, one day, sand down the buttocks on that body!!

      [IMG]DSC_0245 by tanjalalie, on Flickr
Forward slouch via the under-chest joint. I chose Chest Option "B", by the way.

      [IMG]DSC_0246 by tanjalalie, on Flickr
Sideways slouch. This body was so inviting to start playing around with right away, that I didn't get around to unwrapping the fish neck protector until later.

      Slouching to the left

She sits so easily and balanced and beautifully. Those huge hip peanuts do an incredible job , then especially! Hi, fishie!

      [IMG]DSC_0253 by tanjalalie, on Flickr
Not ONE of the other bodies I own can even remotely approach this!

What those short buttocks allow in range of backward motion :love

I am in love with this body. It's officially my absolutely new favorite, bar none. I like the resin plus the color very much in addition.
It's almost a shame to take her apart, she's so stellarly tensioned. But, I want to get to know her, and see how she's put together, and I want to MSC all her parts and blush her. Also, I do think I want to sand her chest down a tad bit, as well as sanding down the very pronounced tendons on the backs of her hands a tiny bit as well. So, as soon as time allows, that's what'll happen!

Super happy with this purchase, I highly recommend her, you guys!!

      Thanks for looking!:kitty1

    3. That is a nice-looking body! (sounds so creepy haha) - She's a bit tall for anything I have planned, but I love seeing how dolls are engineered, so I really appreciate all the photos!

Those big thigh peanuts are so fun! I don't currently own a doll with that kind of joint (the only bodies I have are the ones with the mobility thigh parts inset into the upper leg), but they seem to work fabulously on all those mature fashion dolls you see (Popovy, Tender Creation, etc.). The elbow joints look really good, too - it seems simple, but many sculpts don't allow the arms to rotate inward/outward, yet it adds so much expression to poses.

    4. This is a beautifully sculpted body, and so poseable! I can see why you love it.

    5. What a gorgeously sculpted body! Amazing that’s it’s also a good poser. I’m solidly adding it to the list of bodies for my floating heads!

    6. Wow, the hands with the long nails are so pretty..! :love
I was a bit suspicious about this body being able to stand, but seems like Coral Reef delivers yet again!
      Congratz!

    7. I love Jiu Er Mao. Every review I've seen of this body was stellar, especially with the posing.

    9. I agree, I may have to get one of these for my souldoll floating head :)

    10. Thank you! I looked up the dolls you mentioned and you are right, they have those fantastic hip-thigh joints as well! I am excited that the poseability of those smaller hunks of resin translated so effectively to this SD size as well. And good point about the elbow joints. They are indeed both pretty, line wise, AND very effective. The lower arms can literally be posed any which way. Only joint that may need sueding actually that I have found, is the wrist. The hands could use a wee bit of help. They are ok holding poses for now, but I 'd like that to be perfect.

Thank you! It's always so risky, just chosing a body by research online, rather than getting to actually try it out, It's often nervewracking to do box openings.... So happy and relieved this one exceeded all expectations!

Haha, good plan! I wish I could buy two more for my NON floating heads even!

Thank you! Yes, it's an absolutely impressive stander!

Your comment way back when right after I had ordered that I was really going to love this body strengthened my confidence in her so much, @lutke , and you were so very right! Spam Caroline around for us too, she is soooo cute!

:3nodding: WOW is right! And thank you, that is Bobby, one of our Balinese, the only cats we can have in this household so people can still breathe :kitty1

:D I think you'd not be disappointed. Mind though, that the neck is a bit slender, at 8.2 cm circ. Not sure how wide souldoll's head openings are. The head for this body that I have on order claims to have a neck opening of 9 cm so would likely slide down on the neck. To remedy that issue (if it indeed will be an issue) I plan to do some modding at the head's neck opening to narrow it.

    11. The head is a narrow one so I should be fine :)

    12. I'm really impressed by the body's posability!

    13. Thank you. I am too, so happy with that! Highly recommend if you are in the market for a well-posing SD girl body!

I have taken her apart now for blushing, and saw that she also had been hot-glue sueded very neatly and nicely, in her armpit sockets and hip sockets.

Her string's super tight and I left it intact, will make copies of both loops now that it's not stretched out yet, for exact tension replacement string in the years to come. Her resin parts are near-solid with only small tunnels for the elastic, no wonder she feels so heavy and massive. Also does mean the size string she comes strung with, cannot be improved upon, thickness wise, unless you'd drill out the channels a bit.
However, since she was such a stable girl already, I'll keep this size elastic for her. I dremeled down her chest by a lot, down to an A cup, more to my liking, and sanded down the tendons on her extra hands.

Slow but steady progress, will keep you all posted!

    14. @tanjalalie when are you getting the head for the hybrid? I'm curious to see how it's going to look. I think the body is a great match for it.

I wish Jiu Er Mao made the Mantis body in 1/3 (without the bug parts). That would be an instant buy for me given how nice this one is. I was so tempted to get the Beetle fullset but it turns out I was too late to preorder.

For reference, the Beetle head that this body was made for is 20cm so any smaller SD head like Souldoll should be fine. But someone here on DOA has a Maskcat Lisette head on it (22cm) and it looks good as well.

    15. @lutke Aaah that is great advance info, about the Maskcat Lisette on that body! Perfect! As, according to the head's artist, this head is 22 cm as well, taking 16/8 eyes, and with a neck opening of 9 cm, so it should work well then, proportionally anyway. And if it turns out the head will sit too low on this body's 8.2 cm neck, I will epoxy the head's neck opening 3/4 cm narrower.

Yes, Coralreef's 1/4 th mantis body is just gorgeous. Those feet! I would love those feet on many of my girls, MSD and SD! And I adore the hips they give their girl bodies. Who knows. They may one day have that body in SD as well. Oh, my poor wallet, now that I have discovered their bodies, I must say!

The delivery of the head..... I had inquired 6 weeks or so back, when they then emailed back that end of ordering was the first day of October and then it would take 2 months after that. So perhaps somewhere before the holidays? We'll see. I'll feel reassured when I get an update sometime, or, if no word, I may just send them another email at the beginning of next month to kindly request another update.....
Verrrrrrrrry curious to see the level of resin - match/no match - ... no idea how this "MIA Pink" will compare to anything. Exciting!!:cheer

    16. Sorry I was wrong, the doll is not Lisette but Astrid, who's got a larger head (22.7cm) so yours should definitely look fine!
The same owner also has a Black Cherry Ichigo on the same body, but I don't know the size of that head.

    17. You could also hot glue the neck! It works to get a couple extra cm if you goop it on really thick and let it harden, but it’s fully reversible in case you decide you want the head on a different body!
I don’t know the size of Ichigo—I have one, and I could measure her—but 7/8 wigs fit him a little loosely, and he’s a lot smaller than my other SD heads. He takes 12mm eyes, and probably could take 10mm eyes, so he’s a very small head.

    18. The posability is actually insane, Coral Reef dolls are so impressive

    19. Have you taken measurements of the body? I couldn't find info on that anywhere and I'm looking to compare their body for clothing purposes.

      • x 2
    20. I have her in pieces currently, I also have dremeled down her chest to about half its former size, so that measurement would not be true any longer. But when I have her back together I will take the unaltered areas' measurements and list them!

    21. I appreciate that!
