Modification (Complete) Making a Monster Girl: Hound of Tindalos [MnF Shiwoo]

May 22, 2016

    1. Her little toes are so cute!

    2. Smaller bits are pretty handy. I really need to add more to my own collection. Modding is fun. XD

      • x 1
    3. @vicemage I agree about the xacto. That's pretty much how her whole face mods were done- no power tools. Guess I just really like the quickness of the dremel. I also need to replace my xacto blade cause it's chipped and gross (even though it still had no problem slicing my finger while I was trimming a cactus). XP

@Alternatewarning thank you so much! I'm glad you like her! I'm sure I'll play around with some ideas for her feet and then decide if I wanna go simple or complex. :3

@Anneko thank you! I will definitely showcase her toes a bit more when her head comes back from getting a faceup. I gotta rework some stuff on her body, too (sueding and stringing tension), so her ligs might be coming off again sooner than later.

@Quiet and Insane modding is definitely something I'm enjoying. It gives dolls a much more personal feel to have worked on them and made them truly OOAK.

    4. Dull knives are actually more dangerous than sharp ones because of that chipping and roughness. ;) It means they won't cut properly, and so they're much more likely to slip and cut you. (And tend to leave worse cuts than a fresh, sharp blade.) I used to work at a store that had a lot of knife incidents...

Dremels are nice and quick, but they're definitely imprecise compared to hand tools. I still haven't even turned mine on yet, because I haven't reached anything yet that isn't better done by hand, though eventually I will. (I'm such a terrible perfectionist on my project, too.)

And I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her head back and blushed! I'm partial to Shiwoos, and this mod is so uniquely fantastic. :)

      • x 3
    5. @vicemage I started using the dremel on my missmonster robodogman mask, because there was so much flash and bubbles that needed cleaning than an xacto just wasn't cut out for (hahaa). So then I kinda got spoiled by how fast it could do stuff. XP
I definitely could've done her toe mods by hand, but I kinda wanted that instant gratification of a 10 minute mod instead of a 2 day mod. If I chose to continue with her feet, the claw mod will definitely take longer.
I'm so excited for her to finally be GREEN. Like i got so used to the yellowed NS I wasn't sure if I'd ever see her painted. Haven't heard anything from the artist this week, but I know he's been busy. And I'm technically in no rush- I have no doll meets or anything I'm going to. >w>

      • x 2
    6. Ooooh, how nice! What tiny liddle toesies she has now. And a fluffy tail too, aaah I wish I had more reliable internet now that she's finally moving forward with a lot of her mods. And I can't wait to see what her face'll be like when she finally gets back!

And when you do eventually use the tiny bits I'd love to see what you used them for. :D

      • x 1
    7. Oh yes, agreed! It just makes them all the more special and personal. :)

      • x 1
    8. Wow, the four eyes concept looks incredibly cool. And I'm impressed with how symmetrical the eye holes ended up being. Glad I discovered this project, can't wait to see the end product!

      • x 1
    9. Whoa, what a fascinating character! You've already made such great progress on a quite ambitious mod. I'm sure she will turn out looking wonderful~ I can't wait to see her!

      • x 1
    10. @Gorgonbones Ahaha don't worry, she's hit another halt in progress for the time being. XD

@Quiet and Insane I love knowing that I have a doll that nobody else in the world has. I love my basic models, but customs are truly special to their creators.

@GreenTeaAnarchy Thank you! I'm glad you like her! I chalk the symmetry up to my OCD and being paranoid to get them on the same plane (I used a mirror to check when drawing them). Though the sculpt itself isn't perfectly symmetrical, so I figured it'd be okay if there was a little variation. Nothing is perfectly symmetrical, y'know? :)

@Princess Kenny Thank you! I'm getting antsy waiting to hear about her faceup, but I know the artist I picked takes time to work, so I will be doing little mini projects while she's away. :)

      • x 1
    11. Tiny update-
The faceup artist told me Dacchan is gonna have to go white before she can go green hahaa. She's so yellowed that I guess the green is not looking right on her as-is. But he's been having horrendously hot weather, so progress is slow. I will definitely update the thread with progress pics when I get them myself. :)

    12. Oh wow. Well fingers crossed it all goes well!

      • x 1
    13. @Quiet and Insane Thanks! I have faith in the artist. It'll just take longer than initially thought.

    14. So because Photobucket is slowly nuking all the 3rd party image hosting (it got my signature today) I'll be moving all my project images of Dacchan to most likely a Flickr account (which I have to make).
So if suddenly there are no images (they'll have that annoying "sharing exceeded" image) do not worry! I will be working on replacing all the images with links to new ones. It'll be a project within a project journal. *_*

Edit 7/13- So the images I happened to embed in a post (though DoA's insert image option) seem to be semi-stable (sometimes they show a box with a red X, sometimes they show the image), so those I'll leave alone. I haven't had much time to fiddle with Flickr, so it will be a little bit before all the missing images are recovered.

    16. @PumpkinKings I know, right!? I'm super excited for them! XD

Also, I got my first progress pic of Dacchan from Ji! She's solid white! He has to do a few more green tests and then will start on her face. Once he gets the color match just right, he's gonna send me some studio shots of the progress to share with everyone! :D

      • x 3
    17. I have a faceup update for you all! :D
Yesterday night I received a photo from Jisatsu of Dacchan's color match! He and his fiance tag-teamed to get her to solid white, and then to green. He stopped at "close enough", because he didn't want to make the shade too warm or cool. And I'm fine with that cause she's getting a faceup over it anyways.

Here's her color-matched head next to her hand I sent along with her:

      [IMG]Dacchan_faceup by Wolfie, on Flickr

My little monster girl is nearing completion! I'm so excited to see her finished, and I'm so excited to have her come home soon as well.

      • x 8
    18. She's looking so good, they did an awesome job color-matching! :love

      I can't wait to see the faceup~

    19. @PumpkinKings I'm so hyped to see her with a face as well! It's exciting to see this project nearing completion. :3

    20. Oh wow she looks amazing! She's gonna be beautiful when she's finished.

      • x 1
    21. @CenDragon21 I'm so pumped to see her complete! I entered her in a swap so hopefully she'll get a cool new outfit to go with her new face!

    22. Dacchan is still in the works, sorry for the lack of updated. Ji has given me a mockup that I approved, so now it's just waiting for good weather and the like to paint her.

      • x 1
    23. Oh how awesome!! Fingers crossed their weather will be kind.

      • x 19
    24. Oh my goodness that faceup is amazing!

      • x 1
    25. oh the faceup is so impressive! so excited to see an update

      • x 1
    26. That faceup is STUNNING!!
      :D

      What's next after the faceup?

I know you have eyes already and I remember seeing a picture where she had a wig - is she getting clothes or is a face all she needs to be complete?

    27. This is soooo perfect! It looks even better than the sketches!:D:D:D

    28. I wanted to scroll through the previous updates and realized it was all photobucket hosted. Darn itttt. I'm still excited though! :)

    29. @ronnie92 @ultrapandachan @FifiIsBored Sorry there was a lack of updates, I hope this makes up for it!

@ultrapandachan Yah PB nuked everything and messed up this whole thread. You can go to my flickr and see all the images in the folder "Dacchan".

@PumpkinKings I'm so pleased with Ji's work on her. As far as what's next, she has multiple eyes and multiple wigs, and she does have clothes (though I think the image links got broken when photobucket nuked the internet), so all I need to figure out now is her ears. I think I may work them onto a headband of some sort. She may also get some spiked leg cuffs to mimic the spikes on the plush in the first post, but other than that, she'll be complete. :)

    30. *tiny yeti noises* Those brows! I've loved watching Dacchan come together over the course of your modding and I can't wait to see her all put together, she's going to be hoballsadorable~!

      • x 1
    31. @Wolfie Pie I'm glad she's almost done then! It's been awesome following your progress in this thread - I hope after watching your progress I'll have the courage to undertake my own extreme mods in the future. ;)

I'm really excited to see the end result after following for so long! :aheartbea

    32. @kaien I'm so excited that she's on the last leg of her race to completion. It's been over a year since I started, so I think it's time for her to be whole and complete. :3c

@PumpkinKings Me too! I'm glad you've enjoyed the journey! And I know you'll definitely be up for the challenge. If you already have an extreme mod planned, that's honestly half the battle.

    33. I've been quietly following this for a while, but wow, that is one striking faceup. This whole doll concept is so unique, cheek-eyes are something I've never seen done before!

      • x 1
    34. I've never been more excited to see a doll project at completion! it's like watching my own doll come to life i'm so invested~

    35. Oh my lord that is absolutely amazing! :D

      • x 1
    36. oh @Wolfie Pie I didn't mean to make it sound like I was complaining. I know allllllll too well life gets in the way. I was mostly sharing my pure excitement to see the project move forward. It really looks amazing. I wanted to look over the older updates to refresh myself with the initial idea you had, that's the only reason i mentioned the photobucket issue.

      • x 1
    37. Add me to the list of quiet observers, but your girl is looking amazing! Not only is she gorgeous, but it's making me think about my more extreme projects, hmm...
Anyways, I can't wait to see her in one piece!

      • x 2
    38. Oh wow the face up turned out wonderfully! I love the blue under each of her eyes.

      • x 1
    39. GUYS SHE'S HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Sadly I had a doctor's appointment and then had to go to work, but you can check out my Instagram story for a quick unboxing (IG link in my signature).

I've also uploaded all my old progress pics to my flickr album, so you can see them all on there. They're mostly chronological. I will be working to replace the images in this thread soon. I will also upload her final "glamour shots" from Ji in here, and also a photo of her on her body either later tonight or tomorrow.

      • x 5
    40. Pictures finally! Sorry about that! I ended up having THE WORST time last night getting her head on. If you follow me on IG you probably saw my post about it. Neck mech fiasco and a half: Instagram post by Sara (Wolfie) • Oct 5, 2017 at 5:01am UTC

BUT she is assembled now! Onto the pics!

Final glamour shots from Ji before he shipped her back:

The last couple things on my to-do list for her is to make her ears (gonna use a head band, not sure if I'm gonna do fabric or epoxy), and possibly spiked ankle bracer things. But other than that, I'd say she's basically complete! :abow:

      • x 8
    41. I love the way the faceup looks with that minty wig, they compliment each other really well. :D

      • x 2
    42. @PumpkinKings Thanks! The green is technically her skin/fur color, so I'm loving how well it blends with the wig. :3

      • x 1
    43. She turned out so wonderful! All of the work you put into her definitely paid off. :) Will she be getting a modded friend in the future?

    44. I'm excited for her final reveal! I'll be honest and say I was intrigued but worried at the idea of adding a pair of eyes in the cheeks. She turned out very beautiful!

    45. @kaien Ahahaha I'd love to tackle more mods, but for now I think she's just gonna have the boys in my crew to keep her busy. Though I did recently mod a 60cm doll to fit Soom Chrom wolf legs. I didn't post a project journal on here, but there are pics on my IG of the leg mod. :)

@skyealloway It was definitely either gonna be a hit or a miss with the cheek eyes. I'm really happy they worked how I wanted them too.

In other news, the scuff on her nose came off with a light buff of magic eraser. On the downside, I went to wipe a scuff up by her headcap line off and with one light pass of the magic eraser it took the grey paint off... green was fine underneath, though. *shrug* Good thing it's always under her wig. XP

    48. Edit- I have zero idea why two pics appear to be "dead" links cause they show up the post edit, so idk. Flickr is wacky and also turns my pics sideways when I share them even though they're in the correct orientation when uploaded ughhhhhh.

Eyo! If you've been following along on IG, you'll have seen I made Dacchan's ears and that she went to her first convention and doll meet as a completed doll! Finally got around to uploading them to Flickr.

And here she is at AAC!

      [IMG]dacchan_aac3 by Wolfie, on Flickr

Funny story- I had her out earlier at the con (first two shots) and she had her new CodeNoir shoes on. Then I take her out for our mini-meet (3rd shot) and she's missing a shoe! It wasn't in my bag and it wasn't on the floor, and I was like well there goes and expensive shoe... @mangameow said to check lost and found, so I begrudgingly went over and asked, "This is gonna sound really weird, but did anyone turn in a tiny shoe? It's black and green." And the guy dug through the box AND PULLED OUT A TINY SHOE and was like, "This tiny shoe?" It was a miracle holy cow! Some wonderful good samaritan turned in her tiny shoe! I explained we had a doll meet and I had lost it. The other person at the lost and found table was like, "was that about the tiny shoe?" So now I'm definitely that weirdo with the tiny doll shoes omg...

    49. As someone who works Lost and Found at a decently sized convention, I would probably encourage that in my non-hobbyist cohorts. :D Though I'd also at least explain it to them too. (You'd be amazed at some of the things we get in the lost and found, a tiny shoe would fit right in!)

And that headband for her ears looks great! It looks like the wig's floofy enough to hide the band and her regular ears well. It's a shame you don't live closer to me, I'd love to see her in person. She's one of my favorite mods around here!

    50. Lol that tiny shoe :XD:

      • x 2
    51. @vicemage I'm just super happy someone turned it in. I was really worried someone just pocketed it and was gonna turn it into some lolita accessory keychain or something. Buty she really doesn't like that right shoe, cause it fell off a few more times. >w>;
And yah! This new wig has sufficient fluff so it all kinda blends in. and even if you see the human ears, they look like they can continue into the long ones, which is what I was going for. I almost sewed them on to overlap her normal ears, but I didn't want to risk scratching them (instead I just scratched her head with my thumb while adjusting the headband fml).
Ahhhh omigosh thank you for the compliment. I'm so happy you liked this mod project. I'm hoping I inspired more people to tackle out-of-the-box mods with their dolls. I would love to meet you too, especially since you're a fellow Shiwoo Crew member. ;)

@skyealloway It was a tiny shoe saga. XD

    54. Just a silly little update of sorts.
I had mentioned in post #94 that I wanted a pair of Ersa Flora demon sigil eyes for Dacchan, and I linked a pic of the specific one I wanted in post #132.
Well, I managed to get one! She only had one 14mm eye in her premade batch while she was in the US visiting, so I snagged it. It also glows in the dark!

Dacchan uses it when she's dimension-hopping, or something like that.
