Modification (Complete) Making a Monster Girl: Hound of Tindalos [MnF Shiwoo]

May 22, 2016

    1. And I'm gonna double-post for the sake of project progress. My project on the 31st was to make neck hole fillers for the minifee shiwoo heads. I don't have the one-touch neck mechs for Dacchan and Yun, so I made Apoxie neck rests and S-hook bars to hopefully hold everything in place. The S-hook bars are Apoxie plus wire for stability. It will be the anchor for the hook and to keep the head on.

^ Shiwoo lending his head to help Dacchan keep the neck fillers in shape while they cure

I will post Dacchan assembled if this neck filler works out. I had her assembled but here wasn't much to hold her head on.

    2. Congrats on getting her body! I'm so excited to see you making progress on her transformation. Do you have a faceup artist lined up?

      • x 1
    3. @readergirl312 Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the progress! I did have a faceup artist planned, and I did talk to them about it and they were on board with it, but since then they've made vague notices that they might not keep doing faceups. So I'm really unsure right now. They said they might reopen in the spring, so I will remessege them when the weather gets better.

    4. I will keep my fingers crossed for you :)

    5. Very cool. I love the color of that body! Can't wait to see her done!

    6. Wow that body looks amazing! Very spiky, I love it!

    7. Holy wow she's gorgeous!! I love that green! :D

    8. @readergirl312 Thanks! I'm hoping it'll still work out. >o<

@Disir Darkness @CenDragon21 @Quiet and Insane Thanks guys! This body is crazy.
I was putting her neck filler on yesterday and lost the string in her tiny upper torso. So I unfortunately had a lesson in how complicated DC makes their stringing jobs. One elastic for the arms, spine base and head. It was an experience I don't want to redo any time soon. :horror:

    9. Awwww yes, congratulations! Her spines and ribs look really nice and it's gonna be great seeing what you do for her. Colors and further mods and the like. Seeing her full body compared to the MH one is really nice because now I've got a really good idea as to the scale of her. And the difference in the greens really isn't going to be as much an issue as it might've been, they're much closer than I thought. Though I think the DC green is a little bit nicer, but that might just be the finish too. (fingers crossed you get your face-up artist on board)

So one thing I don't quite understand is the purpose of the bar you made for her neck, how does that work? I get the plug, since the neck hole is much to wide but... And I didn't realize her spine leaned so far back, is that going to cause balancing issues? Also, that stringing sounds like a beast to do. D:

      • x 1
    10. The body finally arrived!!! I love love look very it! I can't wait to see her with it! :love

      • x 1
    11. @Gorgonbones The bars are made to pull the string up through and then they go across the inside of the head to keep the head from coming off. Cause even though the neck plugs fill the gapping problem, they still don't hold the head on. So this acts like a "neck donut" that the S hook rests on. However, after the stringing mishap with Dacchan's torso, I had to pull extra string up into her head and make another knot. So the bar doesn't work for her any more. What she has instead is a hammered copper wire that's just threaded through the elastic, between the S hook and neck plug. I can take a picture of her and Yun's heads to show how they work.
And her spine is more curves so she often leans more forward than back. She actually has extremely good balance and has no trouble standing (unlike Yun, who's a hot mess).

@Kadyrose Thank you! I must've forgotten to post the assembled dolls in here. I know I have them posted on my Instagram @pastelcrayfish. I'll add the pics to this thread soon.

    12. So I apparently never added photos of Dacchan "complete" on here, even though I posted them on IG.

Here's Dacchan and Yun, both standing, and their heads have the neck fillers in place-

    14. Hurrah! She (and Yun!) look great! I'm really digging her utility belt :aheartbea

    15. How awesome is this! Wow love all the progress and the color of the new body. So pretty!

    16. Random clothes and eyeballs are the best. XD

    17. @Quiet and Insane Her most recent clothing acquisition was a huge letdown... I contacted the ebay seller about it, because they sent me an outfit that was poorly and incorrectly assembled, and it cost quite a bit... So I'm bitter about Dacchan atm... not at her, but for her cause I really wanted this to work for her. XP

    18. Ah she is so cute. I love her utility belt! She sure has collected a lot from all her travels.

    19. @Wolfie Pie - Oh man that sucks. :( I hope the issue is resolved swiftly.

    20. I'm super sorry for the lack of updates, but I did get confirmation from the faceup artist I want to paint her! So hopefully Dacchan will go get a faceup soon!
In the meantime, she's been hanging out with the newest family member, a Fingertip Dreamland Hemera-maru:

    21. Oh gosh, how cute!
That's great to hear she'll be off for a face up soon. :) She's going to look amazing!

    22. Cool! Was it hard to get the monster high head off? Seems like a great inexpensive body for a head in need

    23. I love her underwear

    24. @Quiet and Insane I'm so excited for her to finally go off and get painted! :D
I just don't know what I wanna do about her ears right now... cause the blue tack didn't always hold well, and I don't want to wreck a faceup. She might end up with cloth ones held on with velcro or something.

@skyealloway I got really impatient with Frankie's head, so I actually cut slits in the back of the head to remove it. I know they can be taken off with the boiling water technique (like the normal sized ones), but I knew I wasn't gonna use it for anything so I didn't care about cutting it to get it off.

@Teru yep she got the kitty keyhole bra and undies set. XD This was actually the outfit that arrived damaged/poor quality that I mentioned before, but I made it work in the end. Now she can look semi-decent in public and still show off the body's sculpt.

    25. Have you considered magnets for the ears? A set of rare earth magnets can hold all kinds of things in place. Plus, they're really easy to get your hands on. (Even places like Michaels sell them!)

    26. Yeah magnets would work! :) I have several dolls with magnets blue tacked into their head caps for when thy want to wear horns.

    27. @vicemage @Quiet and Insane I have indeed considered magnets. I actually have a bunch of small neodymium magnets I got for various projects. The issue is that her ears are straight off the side of her head. I've used magnets for multiple doll head accessories, and they seem to work best when attached through a wig, as opposed to having them attach to the resin. She's kind of a floppy doll, so I'd be concerned she'd pop her ears off all the time. XP
      I did consider embedding magnets in her head, or even having a wire actually drilled through her head (behind her human ears) to attach ears to. I've pondered a lot over the issue and still haven't come up with anything... >_>;

    28. Hmm, I see your dilemma. :/ Well, that's me out of ideas.

    29. @Wolfie Pie It might not be the prettiest look, but maybe attach them to a doll sized headband?
You could paint it the same color as her resin or wig and put it on under the wig with the ears poking out.

Ive done something similar for a cosplay, it might work in small scale too. 0:

(also I wish doa would give me consistent thread notifications - I never saw a notification when you posted about getting her body!)

      • x 1
    30. @Quiet and Insane It's so frustrating hahaa. I wish I could come up with something clever for her. XP

@PumpkinKings Ooohhh you might be on to something! I did get a headband with the kitty lingerie, maybe I'll fiddle with that!

    31. So I've been in contact with the faceup artist some more. They seem to be on-board with it, but told me this month was no good cause they're really busy with life, so Dacchan will remain in faceup limbo for maybe another month or something.

    32. Luckily for us mere humans, dolls tend to be pretty patient. ;)

      • x 1
    33. That's a relief your face-up artist is willing to work on Dacchan, even if it's going to take a while.

      • x 1
    34. @Quiet and Insane Though I feel like she just stares at me, like there's a crazy amount of pressure from this inanimate object with such an attitude!

@Gorgonbones I just don't wanna pressure him... like I'm super excited for this, but I know he's got a lot to work on right now. I at least want to see if I can put my faceup slot deposit down, so I won't get accidentally bumped by someone else.

    35. Well yes, dolls do have a habit of doing that too.

    36. Hey everyone! Small update, but an exciting one! I've paid my faceup spot holder fee, and Dacchan will be headed out for her faceup in mid-May! :D

    39. I'm so sorry for the lack of updates! D:
Dacchan is getting ready to head out for her faceup, so she won't be around for a while. Bye bye!

    40. Aaah I love her-- looking forward to seeing her all painted up, but I'm really glad I stumbled across this page so I could catch up with Dacchan's journey. I just love the jaw eyes so much...

    44. @Anneko I'm glad you enjoyed her journey so far! :D

@Quiet and Insane @PumpkinKings @CenDragon21 Thanks guys! I just have to get a small shipping box. All the ones I had were too big. D:
So either tomorrow or next week she'll be on her way (I've been lazy about shipping her). XP

    45. I just ran into this thread and man, she looks so cool. I'm excited to see her once the faceup comes back

    46. @Alternatewarning Thank you! I'm trying to locate a small box at work to ship her in, but I might just have to make a trip to the PO. XP

    47. Ugh, I have so many boxes. So. Many. (Finally have gotten to unpacking) Too bad I don't have anything to send you right now, pretty sure I have a few that you can then reuse. Fingers crossed you find the perfect one soon!

    48. @Gorgonbones it's all good! I caved and just used the smallest one I had and just padded it more.

Dacchan actually arrived safe and sound to the artist, and the color matching will begin hopefully next week! :D

    49. Hey everyone! Sometimes I forget that this isn't just a gallery for Dacchan, and that it's a PROJECT journal! SO LET'S GET BACK TO MODDING, SHALL WE? :D

If you look back to my very first post in here, you'll see in my prototype drawing that I had Dacchan with TOES! This was a mod I was considering before I even bought her body. And now that I have a dremel, I thought "Why not today? Why not now?"

      Drawing for reference:

Soooo I will now show you the quick and dirty hoof-to-toe mod I did on each of Dacchan's legs.

I started out with labeling the bottoms of her feet with pencil so I wouldn't be completely lost when all the legs were in my hands:
      [IMG]IMG_1678 by Wolfie, on Flickr

The first 3 calves came off okay, but her back left leg was strung oddly tight and the s-hook stretched and snapped up through her thigh. I bent it back into shape, but I was not happy with it:
      [IMG]IMG_1680 by Wolfie, on Flickr

I succeeded in creating a marvelous creature while holding her thighs and elastics in place with pens:
      [IMG]IMG_1681 by Wolfie, on Flickr

      [IMG]IMG_1682 by Wolfie, on Flickr

Taking measurements and making rough lines for the toe separation:

Aaaaand then I went and attacked her feet with the dremel! Sat on the porch in a dust mask and carved away. Toes in the next post!

    50. And here we have post-dremel toes!

Prior to a quick buff with 400 grit sandpaper:

      Post-buff:
      [IMG]IMG_1686 by Wolfie, on Flickr

      And we have toes!
      [IMG]IMG_1688 by Wolfie, on Flickr

Unfortunately, the dremel slipped on one of the toes, which ended up being a front foot (you can see the shadow on her front right foot). Not much I can do about it cause I don't wanna sand it too flat. I guess it matches the small gouge on her front left shin, which she arrived from DC with. She's definitely a klutz, so some scars are not out of character hahaa.

Hope you guys like her goofy little toes. I may continue referencing the pic I drew in the first post and give her claws, but for now, toes are a good start. :)

    51. Yay, lil feeties! :aheartbea

For some reason I assumed that body would already have toes, since a lot of DC's other centaurs have 4 humansh legs and feet. Guess I never looked too closely at this one.

      • x 1
    52. Omg CUTE! >u<
Dremels are fun to use with modding. I drilled holes into one of my guy's heads for piercings and I got wayyyy too carried away. He ended up with some thing like 7-9 holes. XD

      • x 2
    53. @PumpkinKings ahaa yah the k12 and k13 centaurs were the first with hooves. Ada, Amos and the other one all have the feet. Then after k13 they started doing more joints in the legs and the tiny hooves. So Dacchan needed a toe separation hahaa. XD

@Quiet and Insane omg I know right?! It's so easy to get carried away! I was cleaning up my missmonster robodogman mask and got a little excessive on some parts. >w>; for Dacchan I needed to do it quick so I didn't attempt something more crazy on her haaaaa.

    54. The temptation to do more, once you've gotten over the initial "OMG WHAT AM I DOING??" is very real.

      • x 1
    55. @Quiet and Insane I was honestly brainstorming making slots in her feet and drilling a hole for a wire peg to go through to attach apoxie claws (that'd I'd have to make) so she'd have movable claw toes. I had to make my brain take a step back, like "ehhhhhh that's a little too ambitious and could definitely go badly." Especially cause I'm still new with using the dremel. :sweat

    56. Perhaps you could try that idea once you're a little more comfortable using the dremel.

    57. @Quiet and Insane The thing I would really need for that mod would be a smaller bit. The one I used was the smallest our dremel came with, and it gave her pretty far-apart toes. I'd need something tiny, like a tiny drill or saw.
Actually, @Gorgonbones did send me bits to try out with the dremel, so I'll have to fiddle with it and see if they work (i.e. try them on it). It's my mom's dremel, though (not that she knows how to really work it yet), so I don't want something to go wrong with using non-brand bits. XP

    58. I'd suggest working without the dremel, personally. I've got an extensive mod I've been doing, and I haven't touched any of it with a dremel yet, because it's all much too small and precise. An Xacto knife and some sandpaper can really do a lot more than you might think!

      • x 1
    59. Aw, look at her little toes. I think claws would look cool but obviously, it's up to you. I just love her design, everything about it really.
