Comic Book Software for Photostory - please help :)

May 3, 2011

    1. I'm hoping to create some photostories of my adorable pukis soon, and am hoping for some advice. I want to create a comic-strip style photostories and don't know how to go about this. I have PhotoShop, but have no idea of how to use it :p
Does anyone know how I can do this in PhotoShop?
Or is there some good comic-creator software out there that would do the trick?
      Please help :)

    2. I have no idea how to make actual comic book page-like photostories, but I do my photostories in a comic-y style. Meaning that they have speech bubbles and so forth. I do them in PS, I've made a few bubble templates ready and just copy-paste them to new panels to make new lines (I resize them accordingly of course). Personally I also take the opacity down to 75% for the bubbles so they don't stand out that much from the actual photo. Then just all caps comic sans for the text (it IS made for comic book lines after all..) and voilá!

    3. There's a software called Comic Life/Comic Life 2 from Plasq that I've seen some members in the Galleries put to good use. It's actually quite inexpensive — under $20 — and it's even available for iPad!

    4. That sounds great guys!!

Dragon could you please send me the links to the photostories that use that program? I'd love to see what it can do :)

    5. If I don't miss my recollection, the Puki Trek stories use Comic Life...
      Part 1
      Part 2
...and so on (search for monkeyninja42 in Gallery+).

The Hyde & Gackt story does:
      Part One

As does the seriously long-running Time Knights story (here a couple of episodes from somewhere in the middle):
      Episode X
      Episode X+1

I seem to recall seeing several more, but those will give you a feel for the style you can create with the software.

    6. I use MangaStudio 4 EX for these kinda things and I plan on using it when I get my BJDs for photostories. I really love it. It's quite expensive though, but you can get the debut version a lot cheaper :3

    7. Totally off-topic remark ... but I just realised this entire conversation took place on this side of the Pond!

      Fantastic!

    8. Motion Artist 4 also has some nice comic templates but that's mainly if you want to make them into flash.

    9. Althy I have wanted that software for some time (if it's the one I'm thinking of) as I'm trying to get into drawing. But isn't it just for using scanned in pics? Can you use photos as well?

Ayperi That sounds good also, but what do you mean 'if you want to make them into flash'?

Dragon hehe you're right! Yay for the EU!
Seeing as we're all from the EU, does anyone know where I can find good MSD sized furniture in the EU? Any good websites? xxx

    10. I use photos with MangaStudio o.o

The Dragon... is the coolest username ever... O.O

I have trouble finding furniture here too but since my mother does furniture models for photoshoots (she's really a graphic designer but it's a hobby of hers XD) we've decided to team up and make BJD scaled furniture this summer. I'll link you up when we get some samples done if you like. It won't be for a while but definitely this summer :]

    11. Althy that would be beyond amazing! Please PM me when you do :) Xxx

    12. PS Althy is the cheaper, debut version much different? I want to still be able to create great photostories :)

    13. Well, it's when you want to make them into a flash file, like instead of the usual .jpg etc., flash can make them interactive.

    14. I don't know, I'm sorry. I haven't used debut, but they have a comparison on their website that may help you:
      http://manga.smithmicro.com/debut_vs_ex.html
There you can see if debut is missing any of the things you'd really need :]
Oh, and it shows there which formats you can import into the program :D

And sure, I'll write your name down and PM you as soon as we have something up :3

I hope this helps. I'll keep an eye out for your photostories~
