Cheapest Silicone and resin for casting?

Aug 15, 2015

    1. Okay, there are a TON of companies and options available for materials for casting, and right now I am looking for something CHEAP.

I have zero experience with casting, and would like to get something that won't be a huge waste of money if I mess it up. Also something that requires the bare minimum for equipment. Ideally, I would like to get a few junk casts of the doll I am currently sculpting. They don't have to be perfect, just workable, as I'd like to avoid overworking the clay 'master'.

    2. well I have ZERO experience working with silicone, but they don't differ in price all that much, usually the highest variation in price you're gonna find is a 20%. However, if you want to do junk casts with resin (resin is cheaper than silicone) I HIGHLY recommend oyumaru! The texture and technique for mold making is very different from silicone, and depending of the size you're working with you might need quite some packets, but you can reuse it to infinity and beyond so it's perfect with junk casts! My current project is 22cm tall, and I've done hands, feet and legs with it. I test changes on the resin pieces then add them to the clay master because it's easier to sand, so far it's been all i could ever ask for. It doesn't substitute silicone but it's a great product.

    3. varebanos, that sounds ridiculously perfect for workable junk piece! After reading your advice and looking up some video's on the stuff I ordered some for myself. I mostly like that it's a bit more environmental, with it's re-usability.
