Casting Cheapest materials for moldmaking and casting a doll

Sep 24, 2007

    1. In my opinion I would try out the kit first to get the feel of it, but after that I would just buy the regular sets because the starter kit barely holds a pint of resin, and a pint of silicon. and that is NOT enough to cast a doll... unless it's like, a REALLY small tiny.

    2. A what size doll? I think you missed that part :sweat

I don't have any suggestions, but I'll say this; molding and casting is expensive! Think about how much you really want you're doll in resin before you take that financial dive @_@
It depresses me a little to think I could have bought a doll with the money I've spent on casting supplies.

    3. the kit size is small - it's about enough to mold a 60cm scale BJD head. its a nice start but won't make you a full doll. When I ordered the kit, they also only let you order the kit once.... and after that it wasn't an option. I don't know if that's changed, though, and it's also more expensive now than it was then. you would need the $50 startup kit (Pourable Statup kit) because the other two aren't completely suitable for resin.

if you only want to make a few casts and are looking to save money you can also use polyurethane rubber instead of silicone. it doesn't last as long though and you will need a mold release because polyurethane will stick to the piece otherwise and repeated pulls will break down your mold. it is an option though.
