Modification Changing Katherine to Dismas

Apr 28, 2020

    1. Doll nudity ahead!

Thanks for checking out my project journal, feel free to come and go as you please.

Basically... three years later I'm finally modifying my DC Katherine. Originally I made a personal character out of her but said character [and myself] is no longer female presenting in gender. So, I'd like to change that. :]

I'm aiming to have her fit closer to the character she originally inspired, including sanding down the breasts.

      Dismas!

      This is them currently!

And a very rough mock-up. [Ignore the faulty art, it was just done very very quickly.]

      Current To-do List
      - remove past face up
      - sand down breasts
      - make eyes
      - back tattoo & body blushing
      - face up
      - make glasses
      - sew outfit

I'll most likely be pecking at this in my spare time as I'm currently recovering from slight burn out. Gives me something to work on outside of comics and freelance work! Wish me luck.

    3. "Ignore the faulty art"

Seriously, your drafts are even awesome! I can't wait to see your progress photos!

    4. Small hiccup, my respirator mask was stolen three years ago and I absolutely can't get a new one in current events. Sanding and probably face-ups are going to have to wait. However, I can do sewing portions & such that don't require a mask.

      Thank you!

In my defense, to me they look bad! xD But thank you!

    5. oof I feel ya on this, I was finally wanting to do customization but uh no masks for now...

anyway this looks like such a fun project!!! the character is really cool and I can't wait to see them come to life!
is the first art your own? it's absolutely incredible

    6. Yeeeeeeeeeeah. I have some fabric masks I MIGHT be able to use but I'm a tad hesitant. Ya know?

Thanks tho! And it is! It's more in line of my usual work vs the mock-up.

    7. With a fabric mask, sanding would probably be ok but definitely not using sealants...

    8. Yeah that was what I was worried about.
But hopefully enough time has passed now that I can look into the proper equipment.

    9. You should absolutely not sand resin without an N95 or equivalent. It's a really fun and exciting way to get lung cancer.

      Please read this thread: /threads/what-you-need-to-know-about-respiratory-protection.399096/

You can order reusable half mask respirators from Amazon (I use 3M 600 series in small). The cartridges/filters might be a little more difficult to find, but they're out there. Like with disposable N95s, you need to be fitted for them to work for real, but you can usually fake it by putting the mask on correctly and making some coffee or something. If you can smell the coffee, it isn't working.

That aside, this project looks very fun and cute!

    10. I'm very aware, dont worry. It's why I said I was looking for equipment. ^^ But thank you

    11. I can’t wait to see this progress!!!

    12. Feels so strange to have the doll be blank again! [Also my respirator finally came in the mail!]

      Thanks!

    13. Wonderful project! I'm curious - have you considered modding the face to have Dismas's significantly larger nose? He's an awesome character, and while Katherine is darling, she just doesn't have the same schnoz power! (Can you tell I'm one of those weird people who are all about the nose, lol)

Glad to know you're aware that sanding is NOT okay with a fabric mask - resin dust is just toxic, super scary bad for you.

    14. I didnt think of that and now I absolutely want to do it. I can look into some clay to do so.

    15. I’m so excited to see the results of this- I loved the shnoz you gave him in the drawing you did. It will be so neat to see in physical form!!!!

    16. Not sure clay is really the thing - you might want to check out the modding tutorials. I think epoxy is the route that most people take...although I've never done it, so I am not a reliable source of information, lol

    17. Hopefully it'll work out!

yeah I immediately tracked down a few threads to see what I'd need and how to do it. Thank you for this idea, I'm genuinely excited to try!

    19. It looks great! :D

    20. Oh my god that’s adorable so far!!!! I love the bump it has!!! :D:D:D

    21. After a whole season, I finally got outside and went to sanding. Smoothed out the nose better and got rid of the breasts. Left a little so that he's not extremely flat. It's not perfect but I tried!
