We had a small but really fantastic Central NJ meet today! I brought my dolls in their swimsuits, @Jackie_NJ brought a Ficondoll that we wired and made extra fabulous, and newcomer TheFamousTeal brought a bunch of Dollfie Dreams. Lots of productivity, lots of discussion, and lots of dolls! The full set of photos is here: ABJD Meet - 8/6/17 Central NJ Group shots and highlights are below. Jackie_NJ did change her Ficondoll's clothes from a lovely dress to something a bit more comfortable She looks lovely both ways. My girls in their swimsuits. Jackie_NJ's right after we got both of her legs wired. Her legs now allow her to stand up straight! TheFamousTeal's Dollfie Dreams. So adorable! I've got to bring my little Tania in the future so the two of them can play together. It's a good thing there were no male dolls at the meet today. They wouldn't know what to do if they saw her! Many thanks again to Jackie_NJ and TheFamousTeal for coming to the meet today. Until next month!
I love your girls in the swimsuits! So cute. You're right about the male dolls - so many half naked girls that they wouldn't know where to look hehe. The last two girls in your first picture - are they Iplehouse? If so what sculpts, because they are so beautiful. Their body sculpts are feminine. *sighs* I really want an Iplehouse EID Asa...maybe one day
Thank you! Yes, those are Iplehouse dolls. They're nYID Olivia on the left and EID Jessica on the right. I love their sculpts, too! The EID body sculpt is especially impressive. Voluptuous all over Guys can handle themselves around swimsuits for the most part, but that lingerie in the last pic? Oh no!
Yes, indeed! But the good thing about doll meets is that they're also fashion showcases, so it's okay I have a few outfits where there are short skirts and the suspenders show, but I don't usually take my own girls out wearing just lingerie. I have done so a couple times, though. But I love taking photos of them in their lovely lingerie at home
I think if I was to take a doll to a meetup (as I don't have a bjd yet) I would either take it in a super extravagant outfit because they look awesome, or something really plain to make carrying the doll easier.
There are tradeoffs, for sure. I've got the next Central NJ meet today, actually, and I'm only going to bring three dolls because one of them is going to be wearing a dress that's going to require some setup because it's so long. If you do more meets, you get better, more creative about getting more out of your space. Sometimes things are out of your hand, though, like how things are with the New York City meet with me. With trains, I'll only want to take one bag, and I'll want to make things extra protected in that bag, so I only take one doll to NYC. I largely haven't let that restrict what types of outfits I bring, though. You should see if you've got a local meet. Talk to the organizer. They'll probably be happy to see you and show you dolls in real life before you take the plunge and get your own.
Well I was lucky enough to recently meet some of my local hobbyists at a doll show. They planned a meetup there that day and I was actually displaying a collection of doll costumes I made in the show. I got to cuddle some beautiful dolls and chat to the locals so it was great. I've gotten in contact with them on DoA so it's only a matter of time before the next meet is organised and they've already told me to definitely come along to the next one.
Well, that is wonderful! Don't be shy about going and asking questions and everything. As a doll meet organizer myself, I can say that I'd be happy if you could make it to a meet. You'd have a blast making clothes for Asa Larger BJD clothes are incredible. If you're already well versed in making clothes for smaller dolls, I think you'll be giddy at the ideas and possibilities you'll have on a larger body.
The gothic bridal collection I made was for 17" Monster High dolls so their bodies are kinda like...um.. I guess 1/4 scale Doll Chateau? Maybe... hehe
You could call that size comparable to 17 inch Monster Highs, I think. Don't Monster Highs tend to be skeleton-thin, though? I don't know too much about them, but I have seen some over the years. EID women are taller and significantly meatier. All of Iplehouse's dolls tend to be rather meaty compared to other companies' dolls of similar classification, but the EID is especially large. Very impressive, though. I like the body as a classic work of art.
Yeah they are a little thin compared to DC. They also have really arched backs too which makes it hard to make patterns for. I definitely like the 'meatier' bodies as you call them! Because I design and make corsets, their shapely bodies are ideal. I really appreciate narrow waists.
Hm... You might actually like the Iplehouse nYID if you want to make corsets for Iplehouse dolls. Certainly very hourglassish! I'm sure a corset would look great on her Actually... I've already had one on my Olivia, come to think of it... And it looked incredible Anyway, I'm not a fashion expert, I'm afraid. I do appreciate ladies' fashion, though! I love dressing my dolls and buying them new clothes
What's the old adage? Mechanics always drive beat up cars because they spend enough time on everyone else's cars all the time? Well, whatever makes you happy It's not uncommon in the doll hobby to have dolls that are better dressed than their owners, though. You're in good company
