Hi guys and gals! I'll be posting here about making my first BJD, Cecelia. She's going to be a Yo-SD girl. I've already made the head and the rough body at this point. I was waiting till I was sure I was devoted to sculpting to make a thread. Technically I tried to make one BJD before.. but... she... was made out of horrible clay and cracked the next day so... let's say that one doesn't count! That was a long time ago anyway MOVING ON! So... let me get right to it! I'm using Premier stone clay. I'm using model magic and straws (all covered in masking tape so the clay will stick) for the core. View attachment 70 View attachment 68 View attachment 69 I may have to get the hang of uploading photos here... Please give me some soft critique if possible, and keep in mind the body is still very rough and has yet to be sanded. I also need to fix the inside of the head a lot.
She's looking good! I love her ears and her smile! The only critique I can give is that the eyebrows seem a little bit uneven. The one one the left side of the first picture is a little higher than the right, almost as if she's raising an eyebrow at you. Other than that I can' wait to see how she turns out!
Thanks! Yes, thank you, the eyes are uneven, I like how the right eye is better, but the left one has less mass now and looks higher.. I guess I'll have to add on more clay if i can.
That makes me feel better I was kinda afriad I'd messed her up. I have another problem on the inside though (which, come to think of, I should upload pics of that) i haven't done much to the inside of the head. Only 14mm eyes will fit (like, literally FIT) inside her head. 16mm bump against eachother and do not line up. And I haven't put in the... eye sockets, shall we say, that hold them in place.
wow thats neat, i usually always have a problem making the core, how did you make the core for your bjd? it looks so neat
Thanks! It is model magic with straws stuck in/taped on for the arms, legs, and neck holes. I used masking tape to cover it all so the clay would stick. I used straws for the cores of the limbs too and a ball of model magic for the head.
It's ok, I get nervous when I finally get the face right and then something's just off and I have to fix it. I'm like nooooo! T.T Usually what people do for the eyes is use marbles or a spare set of eyes and sculpt over them to get the eye wells formed, but since you didn't do that (dont worry, i usually dont do it either, im bad X3) it's pretty easy just to carve out the inside of the head, and you might just have to go with 12mm's instead of 14mm ^^
Well now I actually did put some clay into the inside of the head, and squish the 14mm eyes in that i had, took them out, and let that dry... but.... it. it's kinda messed up, I'm gonna have to put the eyes farther apart. The eyeballs touch eachother and have limited mobility because of it. :P I'm working on the arms and legs and touching up the body now.
