“I don’t need another Egyptian-themed doll”, I said, “Anything over 60cm is too big for me,” I said, “I should stop buying fullsets and concentrate on the dolls I haven’t finished yet,” I said. “Bet.” Said Ringdoll. Man I avoided (almost) all the Abuises (Anubisi?) and Isises and Other Such Sundry just to get suckerpunched by this guy. Apparently the cat distribution system works for resin as well, because the last impulse buy was spurred by Fairyland’s Bastet Kaka and now this jerk. The big ol shipper, with utterly unimpressed cats for scale. The box, and all the extra goodies! That is…. More outfit pieces then I was expecting. There’s his pretty hands. I wonder if he has long enough nails to commission a friend of mine to give him a bitty manicure? They do amazing nail art and it would be great to have it on a tiny scale. The quality is super impressive, everything is so nice The mummy man himself! Aaaaaaaand this is where it goes sideways - he arrived with his headcap totally busted. I guess after fourteen years in the bjd hobby something like this was bound to happen (I've already contacted the dealer, don't worry). Anyway, that little heartbreak aside, on with the show. The slow and chaotic process of getting him dressed. I have dolls around this size so you’d think I knew what I was getting into, but NOPE. The Soom boys are practically svelte compared to this hot hunk of resin. TIBBY. (yes i did get the nipple piercings i’m a grown adult and i can do what i want and if that includes weirding the datefriend out with resin nipnops so be it. just haven't glued 'em in yet) Lemme tell you, he NEEDS those tits to support that collar, the jewelry is all metal. Worth the effort though, just look at him. Anyway, disasters aside, I'm actually super pleased with him. He's my first Ringdoll and he actually handles really well for the size?? His head is a little smaller then I prefer, proportionally, but I'm guessing once he's fixed and I can get a wig on him it'll be a lot less noticeable. The outfit has a lot of little ingenious snaps and things to hold it all in place as well. All in all, I'm quite pleased with him.
Oh. My. Gog. I'm always so enchanted by Ringdoll sculpts, they're such a perfect example of how semi-realistic can toe the line between cartoony and realistic, but I never in a million years thought I'd be so awestruck by one. He is absolutely stunning, even with his unfortunate head injury - his faceup is absolutely flawless and really enhances the sculpt's delicate features. Didn't expect the jewelry to be real metal though - considering his price tag I was sure it was just painted plastic! Don't worry - Pukifee Kaka almost got me too, I'm lucky I was broke when she was released, because I'm constantly tempted by pictures of her.
That outfit is amazing. I love Egyptian themed dolls so I understand the temptation. Such a good aesthetic Every time I've seen a Ringdoll fullset unboxing the quality was really high. I have no idea how a headcap would get shattered like that... When I see damage it's a finger or something like that. Never a headcap. Is this a thing?
Congrats on the handsome guy! I hope they send you a replacement headcap soon, it's so bizarre that it broke like that!
I've loved Ringdoll's dolls ever since I got into the hobby, I guess it was inevitable one would get me eventually lmao. Yeah, the only piece that's not metal is the winged scarab on the belt, I'm guessing it would be too much weight and drag things out of place. It DOES have a magnet in the back to attach to the metal parts though, so everything stays nice. Kaka's such a lil imp, I can't wait to put her next to this guy and laugh at how absolutely teeny she'll be. I've seen it happen once or twice over the years, but it's usually really rare for pieces like this to get that damaged - I'm guessing he got bumped in just the wrong way during shipping. Thank you! And no worries, the dealer was an absolute champ and got things sorted super fast!
Just a quick lil update to add, his replacement headcap arrived safe and sound and he's perfectly together now. Handling him is a workout my already tetchy back doesn't appreciate but the results are pretty well worth it, I'd say!
The head cap would’ve given me a panic attack so glad you got a replacement! He’s stunning, congrats on your boy!
Did you get him in light tan or the darker tan? I really like him but missed out on him. He is very pretty. I hope you were able to get a replacement headcap?
