Hello everyone, does anyone try thishttp://www.vivcore.com/dolly_daydream/molding_a_doll.html to cast hollow, how drinking straws stay in place? is plasteline safe with resin?
I have tried it - it is harder than it sounds, but if you design your part with this in mind, it works well. plasteline is safe to use with resin, it is what I have used.
core print You keep the drinking straw in place with a core print. In the above diagram a cylinder pattern is shown with a core print as a part of the pattern. When the mold is made around the pattern, and the pattern is removed, the core print is at the ends of the cylinder. The drinking straw (red color) is placed in the core print, which holds it in place. The resin is poured into the mold to make the cylinder. When the mold is opened, and the cured resin cylinder is removed, the drinking straw is embedded in the cylinder. I do not know how plastiline and resin work together. You probably need to spray the plastiline with a mold release, so the resin does not stick to it. (^_^)
