So, I'm thinking about getting back into dollmaking, and I was wondering what the options are these days for getting BJDs cast. Some points I'm specifically interested in: Minimum order size Minimum and maximum doll sizes Pricing, and is moldmaking a separate fee or included Colors available, and if they can do darker colors without discoloration How they handle attachment points (i.e. what do the hand/foot s-hooks attach to) If they can do stringing and magnet insertion, and the cost if so If they can do faceups, and the cost if so Approximate turnaround time Thanks in advance to anyone who has any information, even if doesn't hit every bullet point!
Fair! I am hoping to get some personal experiences though -- "Company A said their turnaround time was three months but it was actually six," "Company B is more expensive but they have the best dark resin," that kind of thing.
I know that FDoll pretty reputable, everyone I know has been going to them at least, prices for each individual doll range from about 90-130 dollars and they make everything from mature tinies to 1/4 scales. They have a huge selection of colors, but you might want to have a few sample colors ordered because they're more pigmented than what's shown on the website, and the only color that has any real "issues" aka it's a little rougher looking with sanding is the darkest color. Moldmaking I think is only a separate fee if you don't meet order minimum, and I think it's $200, order minimum being 10 dolls, attachment points are resin bars, they do stringing and magnets, they do not do faceups, and turnaround time varies but is generally 3-4 months for a smaller order. Note I haven't ordered from them directly but several friends have and have nothing but glowing reviews, they are based out of China and their owner is Yang Yanbing.
Oh and I should note they are also willing to finish your doll for your for $200, as well as print and finish your doll for $500 if it's msd sized approx
